We stayed for a few nights at Ines' house, with his father Umberto and Juka, a nice parrot; we found each other very well! The house is clean, one day yes and no you change the towels and sheets, spacious and bright; the view of the ocean leaves breathless. Recommended!

A lovely sight, a beautiful place.

Location suggestive that it deserves to be better enhanced. The view is spectacular, directly on the ocean, you fall asleep and wake up at the only sound of the waves. Apartment clean and equipped with everything else. The weak point is the bathroom a little forced and the shower with tent to remove. Breakfast not included but being apartment is easy to arrange. We didn't have any particular humidity problems as reviewed by other users but it was the month of August. For me it was still the second time I stayed. I wouldn't rule out a third.

Four stars with reservation...

We were disappointed. On the web pages the accommodation looks much better, we had imagined a spacious atmosphere and great views, terrace, etc. In fact, the accommodation is simple, the rooms are simply furnished, the bathroom is very narrow. The doors do not close and it clap because of the heavy wind all night long, you can sit outside, but everything is a little ruined. I do not understand why it is possible to serve breakfast next door in Casa das Mares 2 and 3 but not in Casa das Mares 1. The hosts were friendly. The location at the top of the peninsula is fantastic, a small hotel. But the price is too high to be served in the house.

Great location, but simply equipped.

Really enjoyed two nights stay we had the apartment with the best views - windows on both sides of the bedroom with views out to sea, felt like being at sea. The sound of the waves crashing below was really special haven’t stayed anywhere like it. Bed not comfortable - but incredible location made up for it. Great place to stay - recommend

We stayed at Casa das Mares 1 for two nights.. price was $200 euro which is high for what you get and breakfast is NOT one of things you get. We were 2 couples - one bedroom, one small room with 2 twin beds placed on either side of the room and one bathroom that we all had to share.  this would not be so bad but the couple staying in hard twin beds in the leaving room/dining room/kitchen had to walk through the one bedroom also with a hard bed (and see people in bed) to get to the bathroom which was in bedroom... the shower is small wrapped by a plastic curtain and the water dripped onto to the bathroom floor  as you showered with uneven temperature water -  running hot and cold. the bathroom is small and just functioning, the sink is the size of a small bar sink, the towels were minimal and rough to the touch (from probably being air dried outside on the line).  the ceiling above the staircase is low (we kept bumping our heads). there is no TV no air-conditioning the stove is a hot plate, refrigerator is  small (fits some bottles). the owners bedrooms are above our rooms and use the downstairs for additional leaving space/kitchen. the house smelled like a moldy, damp rag. 

 Although i would HIGHLY recommend visiting this gorgeous Island with breathtaking views, I also HIGHLY  recommend staying somewhere else - NOT AT CASA DAS MARES 1

NEVER AGAIN !!!!

The price for 4 nights was steep. €178 per night for two. Cash in hand, no receipt. You get a lot of value for this amount of money in Portugal. Not here! The tiny beds were rock hard, a disintegrating pillow, a threadbare towel, a roll of toilet paper and a bar of cheap soap. That’s what you get. The list of what was missing is long: no chairs, no bedside tables, no bedside lights, no kitchen towel, no breakfast even though the picture of one is on the website. A warm, not hot, shower for 1 person only, then the water is cold. The bath mat is needed to stop the shower water flooding the bedroom. The IKEA kitchen has not a teabag in sight. It is worse than most backpackers we have seen. Just the bare, cheapest minimum is provided and an open disdain for guests. We did not ask for a refund. It was clear, we would never get one. We just fled. A great view can only do so much....

The vote is high because I found exactly what I was looking for. Waking up in the morning and seeing and hearing the waves of the sea breaking under the window of your room is not from all the facilities. Our room was made up of a bedroom a room with a TV with a kitchen attachment. Generally the structure is a little old but clean. We stayed two nights and the towels have not been replaced, so the room cleaning. It does not offer breakfast service but a few steps away you can find a dedicated bar. The landlord Mr. Humberto is very nice and you can kindly talk to him in both English and French. I booked it over the Internet and he gave me all the information that my review prepared for exactly what I found.

Exceptional view

We enjoyed Baleal and this house, but note breakfast is not included in the price. As far as we could tell there was no breakfast on offer, making us quite jealous of those staying in Casa Das Mares 2 next door, who had a lovely breakfast for what looks like the same or even lower price (according to their website)! 

The “big bed” in the bedroom was also the smallest double bed we had ever seen. Sure, it was technically big enough for two people to lie on at the same time, but many would say it’s a king single. The room could accommodate a bigger bed. 

No wine glasses in the kitchenette also a bit annoying. Makes the prospect of sitting on the deck downstairs to enjoy the view with a glass of wine a bit less appealing!

Overall a nice couple of days in a beautiful location, but basic interior and lack of breakfast makes value for money questionable,

Ok - great location but the rest a bit basic

The house is the last before the cliff and the rooms overlook the ocean. Very nice view but the room is tiny and the equipment very summarised for the high price (60 euros).

Nice view of the ocean but very small room

We loved Casa Das Mares 1. Out of the ordinary house, run by friendly Mr Humberto. Our room was quite small but perfect for two people. We stayed in room no.1 which had two big window's with the best views. The free-breakfast was the best (free-breakfast) we had during our trip through Portugal. Fresh fruit, cheese, meat, bread, coffee, juice..served on the porch with great views. We hope to return some day. :)
