I was in this hostel for 5 nights and i really enjoyed the staying here.
The beds super cozy, the room that I stayed in was little humid but that did not bother me at all.
We had breakfast everyday in the garden outside. Everyone was lovely and trying to help.
If I'm coming back to Sao Miguel-Açores i will stay here again for sure.

Lovely review

I should not recommend this hostel, because it is already pretty hard to book it. For good reason!
Adrian and his co-working crew are amazingly friendly, and they do whatever possible to please their guests. 
Bed, breakfast, common area, the attached restaurant and especially the very good vibes at "out of the blue" are just welcoming. Out of the blue hostel is a pretty clean and safe place to stay.
Offered tours by the hostel are stressless and provide good insights to the island's beauty and history.
The hostel is not the cheapest, but worth the money! I will return.

5* hostel

Loved this hostel! Four nights here and did two tours which were well thought out and a great experience, so glad we did them. The Food and drink here was such a great price and damn yummy!! Delicious and one of our favorite places to eat on all the island! Staff was always helpful and rooms cleaned every day. Highly recommend this unique place!

Dig this place!

Stayed here with my wife for an anniversary and it was the perfect spot to explore the island and city of Ponta Delgada from. It is located only a few minutes walk from the heart of the city and about 10 minutes from the waterfront. The staff were super accommodating and available to help assist with early check in or preparing an early breakfast. We stayed in a private room which was spacious and very quiet. This seems like a hostel that caters more to families, couples, and more seasoned travelers. I did not get the sense that it is a party hostel. They have a lovely garden where they serve a delicious breakfast everyday. I really had no complaints. The design of the place and colors are kind of weird. Purple and orange paint and weird sculptures everywhere that look like they were picked randomly out of a catalogue but that is a matter of taste. There is no parking but they recommend a few free lots near the hostel. We were able to find a spot in at least one of them each time.

Great location, affordable, and great breakfast and staff

The hostel was welcoming & everyone was kind. The daily breakfast offerings are delicious! Every day we had the option of hot tea, juice, espresso, yogurt, fresh bread with spreads, pancakes & an egg dish. We didn’t have any food restrictions but they were accommodating to others. 
The cleaning staff did a fantastic job every day straightening our rooms and the shared bathrooms. 
The garden is idyllic with ducks hanging about and plenty of unique places to hang out.

Great place to stay in Sao Miguel!

We have loved the hostel Out of the Blue!
The rooms are nice and cleaned, the backyard is super cute!

The breakfast is amazing: the food is super tasty and it is a nice moment to spend time with the other guests. 

The hostel offers fantastic tours around the island! Lidia, the tour guide, is extremely prepared and she brought us to the best attractions of the island! I recommend her tours!

Best hostal and best tours!

I stayed a week at Out of the Blue during the off-season, Feb '23. This A quaint little house is equipt with an outstanding garden, a pool, free breakfast worthy of a Michelin star and a neighbouring restaurant. This place was genuinely my peace and I would be lucky to return.

Out of this world

Stayed in the hotel style en-suite room located on the other building few doors away after spending the first night in the dorm room. I booked the dorm room because it was the only option left in their web and OTA but turns out they have a room when we were there. The upgrade was worth-it. The room was nicely decor and giving a resort like ambiance with lots of sunlight, a semi-open bathroom and a balcony. Staffs were friendly when we were checking-in along with those who serving breakfast. The breakfast were hearth and fulfilling. Went with their tour as well and it is a nice option for those without car to explore the island

A warm hotel/hostel in mid-Atlantic paradise

We stayed at the out of the blue Hostel in Ponta Delgada for the first time in 3 years. A lot changed and a lot stayed the same.  There is a new pool, they added a big pizza oven in the yard and breakfast has been totally reinvented. However, the staff is always so welcoming and helpful. It’s nice to see that such an amazing place is constantly looking to keep the guest experience exciting while also making you feel at home.  Will stay every time we are here in ponga delgada.

Home in the azores

I stayed for a week at the end of July/beginning of August. As my flight arrived at around 09:30 local time, they let me drop my bags with them so I could go explore the city of Ponta Delgada, but not before they invited me to have breakfast with them which all week was absolutely incredible.

The bed was really comfy and super clean, with plenty of storage in my locker underneath for my duffel, clothes etc. you won’t fit a very large suitcase in but you can definitely fit one bigger than a carry-on. The bathrooms were all really nice and clean too, the cleaning staff definitely do a superb job. My only concern with the bed was there was a beam between my bunk (bottom) and the top bunk which I hit my head on at least once a day and also broke my sunglasses on. I appreciate there’s not much that can be done about it, however maybe some black foam (to blend in) or some warning tape would be good. Otherwise the air-con in the room was good and I liked there was a small terrace to be able to dry my swimming shorts or towel if needs be.

All the staff in the hostel were really nice, they were really helpful with info about the Azores, and were great for booking things like taxis, especially considering I don’t know Portuguese. They also had no qualms with me swapping my towel for a fresh one as I often took mine out for the day for when I went in the sea or hot springs.

As a solo traveller, the hostel was great from a social aspect, spending a week there meant I came across many great people and people often booked on different tours or split taxi fares with each other, although your mileage may vary depending on when you visit and how long others are staying for etc.

The tours the hostel offered were really good and worth the money. I went on two of the tours, one for Sete Cidades and one for Furnas. Lidia was super knowledgeable about the whole island and gave us plenty of time at each stop. Even though the tours say times on them, I would not book anything like restaurants until after 6 or 7pm as they often ran over to at least 5pm which I found to be no problem at all as I got to see lots of the island and the tours did not feel rushed at all. Lidia also checked up on me the day after the second tour I did as I cut my toe being careless by wearing flip flops when I really shouldn’t have. Well worth the money I would say. I’d much rather do a week of these tours than a quick-fire tour of the island in a day.

The food and drinks from the attached restaurant were really nice. I ate there all but one evening mainly due to socialising in the evenings with the people I met at the hostel. The one evening the chef had a night off so Shy made Falafel balls which were really good. The night I didn’t eat there the restaurant was closed as a break for the staff I believe which is great in my opinion, the staff deserve it for how hard they work, especially when pouring me a constant stream of beer and margaritas :)

I think the only negative thing I have to say about the hostel is that they share the seating in the garden with the restaurant, and there is only one big table really (there is more seating at the back of the garden for the family dinners and generally chilling however). Two of the nights half the table was used by external families who were eating at the restaurant, so there was limited seating for other hostel guests. A third night it was fully used by external customers eating at the restaurant. I’d luckily eaten earlier but a few guests ended up taking their food to the shared kitchen to eat.

Other than that, everything was amazing, and I would 100% stay there again. If you’re a solo traveller and a bit apprehensive about hostels, this is the one for you, it is incredible.
