A very well-maintained neighborhood with very friendly hosts. You feel absolutely at home. Under the olive tree you can chill by the pool and look into the endlessly shiny Alentejo. The only problem  : The next restaurant is about 15 minutes away by car.

Beautiful away and quiet

This holiday week was simply all right: the beautiful area with a pleasantly large variety of birds and plants, the exciting walks with skilled and humorous guidance by our leader Felix, the delicious food from Sonja and the well-being of the clay in natural solitude in the Canto do Grilo. Our hosts Sonja and Felix made every effort to make us feel comfortable with them. Also, the excursions and outdoor meals were top-notch. We can warmly recommend this week.

A week of hiking in the Alentejo

A skilled guide with a great background, who was very concerned about the well-being of his guests and worked hard to fulfill all our wishes. In a beautiful, lonely landscape we had the opportunity to experience very varied hikes, where there was also some culture. The food was excellent. In short: I can only recommend this offer and thank the great hosts.

Walking in the Alentejo

How lucky we are to have a place like this in the middle of nowhere! A splendid house typical of the region! Very spacious rooms with a very complete water room! There is nothing missing here! A kitchen available with all the equipment you need at home! A barbecue, a petanque field, a swimming pool, hammocks, a transat, and I'm sure I'll forget about it. I'm not talking about the setting that is extra. A very generous lunch! A really exceptional, simple and loving little owner of the area! Don't hesitate, darken!

It's amazing!

Cantar do Grilo is a very nice place, with beautiful views, comfortable rooms and lovely facilities, like the swimming pool, the deck with the hammocks and the garden.
The best of this place is the owners, who are a very nice and charming couple and totally complete the excellent experience.
The breakfast was also very good.
Nearby you have Serpa and Mértola, with good restaurants and lovely places to visit.
It’s a place to come back, for sure.

Very nice stay!

Felix and Sonja welcomed us so warmly as if we had known each other since childhood; we immediately felt very welcome and comfortable. We got the butterfly room and were very pleased with two single beds and our own blanket 😉. We don't remember ever having the opportunity to live in such a tastefully decorated room. Furniture, standard and cleanliness meet the demands of a five-star hotel without any problems. Sonja's very lovingly prepared and extremely rich breakfast was a pleasure.

It was a wonderful stay.

It was the fifth time we had been to Felix and Sonja, and it was certainly not the last time. From comfortable walks and a wonderful week of hiking, in spring and autumn, it was always a wonderful experience. In this area, still deserted by nature, you can enjoy a great recovery. This well-being is further enhanced by the delicious regional cuisine.

And there's still something to discover!

A very modern, plain looking building from the driveway entry but the front view improves with distance views, the swimming pool and terraces. Probably good for a few days break but we were there just for the night. Our room was very nice with a large bed, French window to the rear (east) patio, wardrobe, bedside table and lights: the bathroom was serviceable with the usual requirements but with shower over the bath. We much prefer a walk in shower, safer! There is an equipped kitchen for guests to use as well as a large lounge: we didn’t like all the steps in the rather dark passage and then down to the lounge and then again to the kitchen,  but that is a personal thing. Breakfast was excellent with a mixed fruit, yoghurt and muesli, boiled eggs and toast, jam, tea or coffee plus a fruit juice to drink. I couldn’t get the Wi-fi to work on my iPad, the only place for two weeks that I couldn’t, but I was told it was working fine! Like I said, a nice place, but maybe better for a holiday not an overnight.

Well located in the middle of nowhere

A week of hiking combined with a day on the classic sailing yacht greetings was a great experience. sonja and felix are great hosts and time just goes by way too fast. we'll definitely be back!

A Dreamy Stay

The accommodation is set in rural tranquillity, but, at the same time, the nearest town, Serpa, is only 15 minutes drive away - Serpa is a quiet town which offers many fine restaurants, sites of antiquity to visit, and. of course, several varied shops for the 'essentials'; as such, Cantar Do Grilo is perfectly situates for a holiday of total relaxation, or is equally ideal when used as a base for exploring the region.
Cantar Do Grilo is a modernised building whilst retaining the charm of Alentejo rural houses. Our room had a large double bed, ample hanging and storage space, desk area, armchair and table, and a well equipped en suite bathroom. Out hosts had also thoughtfully provided a fan for those "hotter" times. The main access to our room was via the internal corridor, but a door also led directly to the outside for access to the front  of the property (terrace, garden, etc). All of our room facilities made our stay very comfortable.
Our hosts, Felix and Sonja, were very friendly, welcoming, and informative. Felix greeted us initially with a welcome drink and introduced to our room and the additional facilities offered. A well equipped kitchen (oven, grill, hob, refrigerator, cutlery, etc) was available for food storage and meal/snack presentation, which could be taken either inside or at the outside dining area (where we enjoyed our breakfasts). A separate large lounge was available, which was always cooler, and could be used to sit and relax, read, or watch TV. Outside was a splendid pool surrounded by a large relaxation area shaded by ancient olive trees. The property is surrounded by vast views of the Alentejo rural plains, and is an ideal site for nature lovers and bird watchers.
After a very relaxing night's sleep and morning shower, we were served a most delicious breakfast on the outside terrace to the rear (West facing) side of the property as it provided welcome morning shade.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can recommend it as the perfect place to use as a base for exploring the local environment by foot, or the wider region by car - or simply relaxing by the pool, enjoying the fantastic views, with all the comforts of home on hand.
