Amazing experience, clean and tidy houses, very sweet animals. The view is gorgeous too. There are cute souvenirs/gifts available. A trip with the horses is just wow. The hosts are nice and funny, and there are a lot of good restaurants and bakeries nearby. Portugal by horse is one of the only stays I really really wanted to return to.

Amazing

I stayed at Portugal by Horse, both on my own for a month and with my family - it's perfect for either type of trip. It's the kind of place that you’ll want to keep coming back to. We have already booked a future trip!

This is the right place for anyone who loves being surrounded by animals and nature. And if you’re trying to develop a closer connection to nature, there is no better place. You get the best of both worlds - rustic charm with modern comfort and amenities. The rentals are equipped with everything you need. Everything is super clean and high quality. 

Liesje and João, the hosts, are warm and friendly, always there when you need them, but without being obtrusive. João is amazing with kids, and he customizes riding lessons to suit their needs and wishes. You won’t get bored here as there is loads to do within just 30 mins of the farm - countless walks, old schist villages to explore, Roman ruins, and tasty food. A nature and history lover’s dream!! And there’s plenty to do without even leaving the property. My kids never wanted to leave because there’s a pool, large grassy areas for playing, swings, and friendly dogs, horses, and chickens.

You will not regret staying here. I recommend staying for at least a few nights or you’ll leave with the sense that your stay was too short.

Nature & Animal Paradise - Happy Kids & Parents 🐴

We had a great afternoon out horse riding. We were brought through the hills and down to a small waterfall for a swim followed by a picnic. Really nice way to spend half a day. I had no experience with horse riding so they looked after us well. If we were back in the area again I would definitely consider doing this again 

Portugese Horse riding

A lifelong dream come true! My husband and I stayed here a week and a half ago for a couple nights. As soon as we arrived we knew we would regret not booking our stay for longer. It is impossible to truly capture just how incredible this place is in photos. Since I was a little girl I have always wanted to learn about what true horsemanship entailed, and here I got to experience a glimpse of it. We wanted to spend as much time with the horses as possible and João & Liesje made sure we did: we got to experience feeding the horses at night and in the mornings and releasing/stacking them, brushing them, cleaning their hooves, and saddling, before riding them: in other words, earning the horses trust before riding them (João took the time to make sure we could ride them appropriately and adjust our prior habits from western riding, which we truly appreciated and will take with us going forward). We learned and experienced so much here, and we are so sad we didn’t stay longer. We also had arranged to get massages on site prior to arrival and it was great! Everything about our stay was amazing. Liesje and João have built a life and safe-haven for the animals in their care that is the stuff of dreams if you are an animal and nature lover (with a LOT of work), and our cottage was everything we could have hoped and super comfortable. We absolutely hope to return someday!

My childhood dreams come true!

This is a wonderful place to stay.  Great facilities, tastefully built in the countryside. Nature everywhere ,great for individuals or families. Very cosy in Apartment Alegria. Can't recommend this place enough!!

Peaceful, beautiful, relaxing Portugal by Horse

Very nice country horse farm, our daughter loved the horse ride and Joao was very helping and nice. The cats, dogs, duck, chickens makes it even more authentic. Have a beer in the outside bar after the horse or bike ride and enjoy some small chat with the hosts. Simply assume for a family trip.

Definitely worth a trip!

We stayed at Quinta da Alegria in November 2012 and November 2013 and had an amazing time there. We booked the Apartment which is beautifully decorated, the bedroom in the mezzanine is incredible, its like staying in a fairy tale apartment. It is the best place for a romantic retreat. The surrounding grounds are great for walking, you always have two or three lovely friendly dogs following you around. It is the best place for animal lovers. There are stables on the property and I went horse riding, which I love, but even if you do not ride, just simply watching the horses is extremely soothing and relaxing. Liesje and João are great hosts and really nice and welcoming. It is definitely worth the visit.

Amazing and peaceful retreat

We felt at home immediately here, the little house allegria was wonderful, the view from the balcony stunning. Liesje and joa we're there for us but left us our privacy. We rode horses, enjoyed the pool and a beer in the little bar, chatting to the other guests. IN the surroundings you can go for wonderful walks and there's several places to swim. Midoes has two little restaurants, we enjoyed one of them: fresh food, for a very small price. This is a place I would definitely come back to to take horse riding lessons. Highly recommended for families

quiet oasis in Central Portugal

We was here in June 2012, stay in Wibble apartment (look at photo with outdoor pool in front). Family with 3 kids. Initially we planned to spend here just few days, but at last day we cancelled other bookings and stay till end of a holiday. Next time we specially planned visit right here and got one of best family vacation at farm during last years. 
We recommend this place for lovers of nature, in silence and solitude. Fans of leisurely riding and rural life here is also very cozy.

We love this place!

We love this place. Nature, horses, lovely people. Perfect location to go for a walk and horseriding or just relaxing by this wonderful house very much space in the house and lovely decoration. You can order fresh fruit, eggs and drinks. We went wirh 2 kids, age 11 and 13. There are for example possibilities to go mountainbiking and take horsemanshipcourses. Amazing how they work with the horses, i cannot imagine a more natural way. There is a private swimingpool and you can go to the beach. Just 1 hour drive to a nice beaches.
