We were disappointed as had read good reviews.  I had sea bream my husband had swordfish.  The food wasn't bad it was ok but nothing to make us rush back for. We didn't like that our table for 2 was almost joined to the next table of a family of 8, there was literally only  a few inches between our tables.  The worst part was we were plagued by wasps a little boy on the next table was stung! This wasn't the fault of the restaurant but we never encountered this problem anywhere else.  I wondered if there was a wasps nest in the large tree we were sat under. 

Disappointed 

I can’t recall ever having a better steak than this - pretty much perfect! Excellent service too, and nice atmosphere with music being played outside. Hard to fault. The steaks are big, so bring a healthy appetite - good wine and great experience. Make sure you book, as it’s deservedly popular.

Just the best steak.

The best steak you will find anywhere, cooked to perfection.  Whatever you do think twice before having starters because the steaks are huge!  The staff are fantastic and with the best food around it makes a lovely night particularly if you are sitting outside listening to the sounds of the town.

Best steaks anywhere!

Nice restaurant with tables on the street in one of the main streets of downtown Tavira Good food, the best of our tour in Portugal Fresh very good octopus and shrimp, excellent salmon tartar and special meat both filet and delicious fries with great slices of blood

Just perfect.

I’ve been visiting Tavira for years & always liked the look of this restaurant which is on the Main Street which leads to the old Roman bridge. It’s nearly always booked out so after another recommendation I booked ahead for the family and got a table. 
I wasn’t disappointed. Great service. Good menu. A lot of meat which I loved because being on the Algarve I’d eaten mainly fish. I had a amazing surf & turf. Fabulous steak cook to perfection. My wife said her chicken was the best she’d ever tasted. Which says something because it’s only chicken in my book. Kids well teenagers all found food they liked. Some great wines on their list. Lovely atmosphere dining outdoors in beautiful Tavira. You can’t really go wrong dining here.

Dinner at the Castle.

We visited this restaurant because I remembered how much I’d enjoyed it on my visit 6 years ago so made sure to make a reservation as soon as I arrived in town.  The food was excellent, I had steak which was cooked to perfection, my friends had various seafood and fish which they thoroughly enjoyed.
Waiting on staff were professional and friendly, I must mention Claudio, whose smile was endearing, he was super friendly to one of our party who suffers from dementia, although we hadn’t disclosed his problem Claudio seemed to have an understanding. 
I will always recommend this restaurant, and wouldn’t have a problem eating here every night of my holiday!

Excellent good and service

Don”t be skeptical- a completely enchanting and perfect experience. Great service and food (don’t forget wine)  Finest steak snd salmon. Wonderful octopus salad to start. Great wine list, wonderful owners, management and servers. Do not hesitate. make a reservation.

Skeptical About O Castelo?

We stumbled across this lovely restaurant quite by accident and were fortunate to take the last table for two without a reservation.  Service was very good, food was delicious.  A little restricted on the vegetarian option but this seems to happen in a lot of places.  We would definitely return.

Just lovely!

We ate here on our last evening before sadly heading home the following day. We were recommended this by the Golf manager at the Monte Rei Golf Resort around 15 mins away. Luckily for us we had relocated to the centre of Tavria, which was no more than a 10 min walk away. It was a balmy sunny evening so a romantic stroll along the cobbled lanes worked up our appetites, not that this was necessary as both Mrs Lowe and I were famished. It’s a small sign so easily missed and all tables were Al fresco and upon our arrival a beautiful busking duet sang into the night right across the street, warmly received by all patrons. Saying that there was one particular large gentleman, who was not happy at having to part with some loose change, which was a bit sad. The owner ‘Junior’ greeted us with a warm smile and showed us to our table, I later discovered that Junior not only owns this establishment but cooks all the meals himself and his passion for his eatery is there for all to see and boy did it show in the tremendous food that was to follow. The atmosphere was fabulous, every table taken and a number of very professional staff busing themselves serving customers. The establishment is without doubt, known for its steak, however there are plenty of other options including chicken and fish but when in Rome as they say and we both choose steak. Mrs L,  a sirloin and a XL rib eye for moi. The whet our appetite we enjoyed some olives bread and oil which had garlic and citrus chopped into it, very nice indeed. To wash it all down a large sparkling water and a very reasonable bottle of house red at €12.50 which turned out to be first class! The main event which followed was undoubtedly the highlight of the last seven days of evening gastronomy, which I may add was a very high standard. Both steaks were accompanied by a large bowl of ‘proper’ chips, not a french fry in sight just pure crispy chips along with a peppercorn sauce on the side for me. Whilst Mrs Lowe (who doesn’t eat much red meat) thoroughly enjoyed her steak I thought I had died and gone to heaven! I’m not a religious chap at all but if there indeed is a god and he must provide the meat for this place. Junior took time out of his busy evening to chat with us after our meal and told me that the meat came from some of the best Argentina has to offer and I can confirm in all my 58 yrs, 5 months, 3 weeks and 1 day it is the best I have EVER eaten… period. You must try this if you like a steak especially and I’d advise you to book well in advance as many of the customers are regulars as well as holiday makers like ours.

Super Steak

Top accommodation right in the center of the bowl everything extremely clean with all the conditions and a top staff I recommend already I'm thinking when I'm going to take a few more days have gained another client.
