Location is excellent, staff was very welcoming
but ....
bad ratio quality price : AC was noisy and unefficient, one window was broken and could not be closed properly, very small shower, only one toilet paper roll, not enouth plugs
although the breakfast started officially at 0700, the buffet was not complete at that time which is not good as we had to leave rightaway

This is an old army barracks that has been renovated with much attention to detail and attempt to create the impression of an old medieval castle. Our room was huge.  Breakfast was a lavish spread and enough for a castle full of people.  Unfortunately there did not seem to be many guests around and we imagined the hotel would feel very different with more people in evidence.  No internet. 

A grand and intereting hotel

Such a nice hotel! Located in the medieval fortress, very clean, very comfortable bed and pillows, quality furniture, we loved our stay there. Maybe breakfast can be improved a little, but overall we were impressed.

The best choice if you stay in Alba Iulia

This hotel is in such a beautiful location and the building is gorgeous.  The owners have let it run down.  The room has a floor AC that doesn’t really work.  Hot water during the day is questionable.  I let it run almost 20 minutes to get barely warm water.  The breakfast is a joke.  We came down at 7:00 for breakfast.  Cold eggs, no coffee or tea or even hot water.  In fact the wait staff never showed up until 7:30 long after we left

Beautiful location Mediocre Hotel

The hotel has a wonderful setting, in the citadel, with picturesque buildings surrounding it and Roman ruins next door. 
The hotel itself feels a little like a palace or grand residence: you enter through an arch into a large tranquil courtyard, there’s a pretty fountain and it’s easy to sit here and relax.
The hotel entrance and reception also feels very grand, walk a little further and there is a billiard room. 
The bedrooms were fine, but not great, especially in very hot weather - there was air conditioning (stand-alone a/c unit in the bedrooms) but it was really noisy and it didn’t seem to cool the room much at all. The rooms were a good size and the bathrooms were nice, but the corridors and furniture in the bedrooms were dark, heavy, without offering any sense of luxury or any personal touches. 
The food and drinks from the restaurant were good and service was good too.
The breakfast was really average, quite disappointing really.  There were some strange cold meat items (breaded chicken pieces and mushrooms stuffed with meat), there was some bread and cake - all very so-so.

Pretty hotel in good setting, some aspects disappointing

STAY AWAY FROM THEIR FOOD! It's ridiculously lousy. The fish we ordered (dorada and salmon) were both dry when it finally arrived. The tomato-cucumber salad was not available since there apparently were no cucumber - so we asked to mix the tomato with some green salad instead. What we got was a bowl of half-old brownish iceberg salad with two (2) slices of tomato. Waiting time was long. Some plates were filthy, salt/pepper set was really greasy as well. Oh, forgot that my husband found a piece of plastic in his food.
Breakfast was as bad! Juice of the processed sugary thin kind in two versions. Cold egg/sausage pans. 3 kinds of ham/salami. 1 kind of jam. Everything cold and looking as if from day before. Little selection. Dirty spots on the table cloth, an ant running over it. All of it in a not-airconditioned room without the option to go outside in the shade somewhere.
This hotel seems to be dying which is a shame because the settings/surroundings are magnificent.
Resumé: go there if you like historic buildings and views, like to sweat and don't care for food.

Not ***** at all

In the citadel close to the III-rd gate of the Alba Carolina fortress, you shall find the Medieval Hotel. 
The location is unique I can assure you. Parking is on the street and they have a few free of charge places but even if you don't catch those you can pay via app about 5 euro/day for the parking, so it is not that bad. 
The courtyard is generous - but the restaurant located inside the courtyard was closed. 
Check-in /check-out fast  - however for the check-in formalities it can be a hustle to fill in the paper work on some very low tables in the lobby. 
Staff very helpful and polite - nothing to complain. 
The room had furniture reminding us of the past centuries - bed very comfortable, cleanliness at the highest level, minibar loaded (and the prices are not too high). 
And A/C is installed - so for the hot summer days its very nice to enjoy a cool room. 
Bathroom with all amenities available - even tooth brush was available if you forgot your own. 
Breakfast in the courtyard, courtyard that is situated on the top of the Saxon bastion in the fortress - a great ambiance - in terms of choice there was a good variety of food- so everybody can find something of their liking. 
Overall a very good hotel I recommend you try it.

Very good hotel, very good price to quality ratio.... unique location.

We have been there in transit, and I would say that was an excellent choice. The rooms are very large for a 4* hotel, and to preserve the heritage building no AC is available inside rooms. During very hot days, it may be uncomfortable. However, a fan has been installed in each room.  The breakfast was excellent and the venue has many underground rooms arranged as in the medieval era. The cost-quality is very good, the internet connection very good, the bathrooms were well equipped. The location is also great, just a few steps away from the fort's main gate.

A lovely and quite interesting experience

We wanted to have a good look round the citadel at Alba Iulia with only a few hours to spare, and the hotel location was ideal for this perfect. After breakfast on the terrace we walked straight out into the 18thC fortification, down a tunnel into the moat within 2 minutes. Loved this place.
Huge efforts were made with the rooms - there were so many soaps, lotions, shower caps, sewing kits, toothbrushes etc that we were rather overwhelmed. Beds were comfortable and the shower was great. Dinner was good but nothing special; the setting however was lovely. The staff were unfailingly helpful and courteous and spoke good English. The mini bar was well stocked. Our luggage was carried to and from our hire car for us.

If you're interested in fantastic 18th century architecture, this is a dream spot. We thought that it would also be a great summer holiday spot, or weekend stop-off between various Transylvanian destinations, if only someone would invest in putting in a swimming pool! There are plenty of courtyard areas where this would be possible.

Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel. Loved it.


Delightful place, excellent value, lovely staff

Unfortunately for this beautiful location, the food and the service were terrible, and definitely overpriced. The waiter was anything but nice and the food highly dissapointing. I wouldn’t recommend it and I would never return. 
They don’t know how to serve, don’t know or care about plating or taste, even though the prices and the ambiance might suggest the opposite. 
I will attach a photo of the trout and baked vegetables with polenta that I ordered and ate.
