We have just returned home from our three night stay in Cristal. Room was ok size, decor a bit dated but suited the feeling of the place. Room was very clean and bed comfy. The sizes of the rooms seem to vary, because our friend's room was bigger and some rooms had a small balcony. Breakfast was simple but good; bread, cheese, ham, fried eggs, cereals... 

Location is quiet and beautiful, 30 minutes walk from Dracula's castle (Bran castle).

Downsides: no air-con (but a big window you can open), during our stay the wi-fi didn't work, hot water is turned off for the night

Overall good experience, I can recommend if you are looking for a basic accommodation with decent breakfast.

Basic accommodation

We have visited this hotel for New Years Eve 2014 and it was one experience I would not want anyone to repeat. We booked this package almost one month in advance and paid almost 400 EUR per person (for a one 4 star experience in Bran). 
The surprises were numerous. The room is extremely small, one can barely walk in the distance between the bed and the surroundings. The towels were very old and intensely used and cleaned before (some even had holes in them). In 6 days no one entered the room for basic cleaning and garbage pickup. The heating was turned off during the day. In the evening and at night it was ok (warm) but if you wanted some rest during the day the room was very cold. The room and bathroom were not very clean (shower, furniture). Breakfast was terrible. I could not even call that breakfast. 
And if this was not enough, the staff was not friendly at all. One day I called to ask if there were problems with the heating because it was very cold in the room and the man responded shouting at me that he was very busy and did not have time to chat. He eventually said he would send someone. No one ever came. The heat was turned on but they never replied to say it was fixed. New Year's Eve party was not great at all. Music was pretty bad and food quite low quality. 
Finally, I would suggest, if you want to spend some days in Bran, don't choose this location. There are far better places to go, some even for less money and definitely more worth spending. We ended up going back home one day earlier. 

One bad experience

Just a warning to everyone, this place is an absolute disgrace. After arranging accommodation with this place by e-mail and receiving e-mail confirmation from them and subsequently having correspondence with them up to 4 days before we left. On arrival (at midday) we were told that they had given our rooms away and had made arrangements with another hotel. However they didn't actually know where it was, after some discussion we were taken to another pension. However this one, although the same price did not do breakfast. Pension Cristal refused to compensate the difference and although the representative advised they would come back with the owner, guess what they never.
This place is ignorant and arrogant and I have never been treated so poorly by what is supposed to be a 4 star accommodation. I would recommend that anyone considering going to Bran to choose somewhere else. There are plenty of lovely pensions that are closer to Bran Castle and have better views. (and certainly better customer service than this place).
