This hotel is ok for a one night stop over - themed rooms are interesting and clean, food is basic and service is minimal. Viscri is still functioning as it did for many years so there aren't many extra amenities. Keep your expectations simple.

Basic stop over

Please be advised that this is a somewhat remote village, so expect the roads to be bad. This is an old saxon house redone for tourists. The room we had was big,no TV, very very small bathroom but all in all nice and clean (you need to leave them the key if you want cleaning to come in). I would have expected the meals to be traditional but instead they use supermarket bought produce which is appalling taking into consideration they are located in an area of RO that has exceptional produce. Due to this I found the prices to be too high. Also, the ladies in charge are not friendly so some work to be done there as well
All in all I would return to Viscri but not at this location

2 night stay in Viscri

So long story short: owner mixes up reservations and then the host at the location acts really strange and refuses to give my hungry 6 yr old food. I would like to mention that the during that weekend, there were lots of tourists willing to pay ridiculous prices just to get a room as there was a 900 participant cycling event in the area (most likely this would explain the following events?)

Now the details: we were invited by a friend to travel to Viscri along with her extended family from abroad. However, the owner had mixed up the reservations and my friend's sister-in law (coming the next day from Spain) would not have a room to spend the night in, The owner of the place had offered an alternative, but with a shared bathroom, so my friend refused. Mind that the price agreed by my friend was 40 Euros per room, so not cheap for this type of accommodation. 

My friend also wanted to celebrate her son's birthday with a cake which she had ordered before. When she was told the owner had mixed up the bookings, she decided to leave and offered the lady selling the cake to buy it anyway and transport it to Medias (where she made emergency bookings because of the mix up). Then the Owner of Viscri 44 said they would buy the cake instead and that was it. 

We went to bed and when we woke up, my 6 year daughter (like never before! :)) ) tells me she is hungry and that she wants to eat real food (this means not sweets or crackers). So this meant she was really hungry (we ate very poorly in the evening). We went downstairs and sat at the table for 15 min. The host at the property did not even say hello, nor looked at us. I finally went to her kitchen and asked whether she could serve us some breakfast. Well...little did I know she had a terrible agenda: she started yapping about how my friend and the owner had mixed up the reservations, that we do not deserve to eat, as my friend’s behaviour "was not proper", and that in the evening she had cooked for us (!??) and we did not come and eat the food and so now she is left with food and no customers, and again, that this was "not proper". Then on and on about how my friend refused to buy the cake even for 30 lei (not true of course). Other people staying there would, of course, get served breakfast.

I felt humiliated and powerless as my daughter was really hungry. I need to mention that in the morning, there is no place where food can be bought in Viscri, so basically my daughter and I sat at the table until I remembered I had some crackers in the car and so this is what she ate. Quite dreadful experience I have to say!

The host is very careful with all the guests' needs. Food was traditional and very tasty. The rooms are traditionally furnished. I highly recommend this place full of warmth in the heart of Transylvania.

Traditional stay in Transylvania

From the fortress they recommend a restaurant that is actually a private house and they have nothing. Te dan col, pan and soup without beer or wine, lemonade is Fanta in a jar and you enter after what is worth. With a paperless bill 100 leís food for the poor at the price of an expensive restaurant (taking into account how good and cheap it is to come here).

It is very convenient to visit with Café Artizanat.

this is really the place to stay to experience country life in Romania. the rooms are really nice decorated with old furniture and a equipped bathroom (from my point of view bathrooms could be improved to make the say even better). it is really quiet and pleasant. they also offer food for lunch and dinner - nothing fancy but delicious.

charming place

The accommodation is very beautiful and decorated with love. The bathroom is small but sufficient, the owner is extremely friendly and helpful. We are here for the second time now and will be back next year.

Nice accommodation

A newly renovated traditional home is waiting for us; a very smiling and friendly welcome is in Ramona's person who has quickly made us comfortable. The rooms are pleasant, but don't expect the luxury of a Palace (thank God we're not here for that, by the way...) Confidence and good mood are the foundation of our stay. Ask Ramona to ask her mother to make you a small regional dinner for the evening...a real treat and sparkle from a local Palinka from which you will tell me stories. We spent two nights in an authentic setting. The surroundings are beautiful and invite you to walk unhindered and... the splendor of nature... Ramona and Mamouchka... Thank you.

Authenticity and Romanian identity

We were warmly welcomed and accompanied throughout the entire stay. If you ignore the partly bumpy approach, the village is surprised by the naturalness and natural connection of the houses and people. The guesthouse radiates genuine charm and cleanliness, the food is simple but tasty. And the horse-drawn excursion organized by the hostess to bricklaying and forging has delighted the children immensely. It is highly recommended.

Pitoresque and hospitable

A cozy room in this village that has fallen out of time. Despite the extreme heat outside, it was pretty cool in this old wall. There is a simple but delicious dinner and a good, very extensive breakfast! We would stay here again anytime.
