We stayed here for one night. From the moment we arrived, Vasile and his wife, the owners, were so warm and welcoming asking us to join them for a home made “palinca”. Our room was large, clean and very comfortable. After walking around doing the tourist visits, we came back and sat in the gazebo, where Denis, the cute puppy entertained us.  The grounds are fantastic to sit and enjoy the surroundings. As we were leaving early, we were left the most amazing breakfast. There were cheeses, meats, meatballs and bread. It was fabulous. I highly recommend staying here, not only for the room but the hospitality of the owners. Fantastic.

Pensions (B n Bs) have sprung up in Sapanta.  Many are directly across from the church, which, while convenient, can be quite noisy.  I discovered this place while walking from the minibus stop to the church.  While the husband doesn't speak English, his wife speaks a little (and some French) and their adorable daughter is studying English in Sighet.  They really make you feel welcomed, their home is traditional outside and modern on the inside and the rooms on the second floor face towards the church on the right.  Heating was excellent on a cold October night and the quilt was heavy and appreciated.  They made sure that I had a reservation for the next day's minibus (the only way to travel from Satu Mare to the many Maremures cities without the expense of a taxi plus the fun of meeting local people crowded in a van).  The price was very low in October, about $20 including a spur of the moment simple dinner (I was a drop in knock on the door customer) and breakfast in the morning. I got to see the mom dress up for the Merry Cemetery church in traditional clothes.  I am so glad that I stayed in this town and enjoyed the peace and quiet of their BnB hospitality.  As you come in off the main street, it is on the left side as you wind toward the Merry Cemetery, which is just around the corner.  A very small town, so the location was excellent.  And BONUS -- if you are there in the fall -- crows drop walnuts on the road to crack them open - let to a good discussion about crow intelligence with the local people.  If I had had more time, I might have stayed in Sapanta several days and commuted to Sighetu to see the sights there.  The views in this area are incredible in the fall.

A bit quieter than Ileana Pension

Stayed there two nights. The hosts were very sociable and welcoming, preparing breakfast in the morning. Not too fancy, basically traditional food. I enjoyed it. The things that I wasn't very satisfied was the very small room and the smelly bathroom. As far as cleanness goes, things can improve. They offer good parking inside the yard, although it can prove a bit difficult to exit, if you're a newbie.Oh, forget to mention they are using wood  as a fuel for the heating  system, and it can get chilly in the morning, when the fire goes off. Also, they have some problems with the pipes and are shutting down the water supply during the day, when the guest are off.
