Pensiunea Doina

Ok, we haven’t seen ALL guesthouses in Maramures but we have tried a few and really, not one compares to this one, although several are quite nice. The setting in the middle of nature, the way the houses look, the big garden, the cleanliness and the food make it unique. We stayed here 3 times so far and we can see that they’re investing in the place - it seems to improve from one year to the other. We love that it’s pretty far from the main road, love the large yard with so much space to walk and enjoy the silence, green grass everywhere, flowers in the front and a small orchard in the back, it’s simply heaven to be there, especially in summer and early autumn. Some watch-outs: traditional food in this part of the country is based on meat; if you’re vegetarian, you need to be clear about it from the start. There’s no a-la-carte so best to agree together with mrs Doina which meals you’ll be having there, what times etc. It won’t be a typical tourist experience that you’d get in a big city or in western Europe - try to get with the local charm and enjoy it ;)
