In reading this review, please take into account that it cost only £21 per twin room per night due to the poor standing of the Russian Rouble. English is not spoken but we had the benefit of a translator in our party to deal with a number of issues during our stay.

This hotel is also a medical facility offering all sorts of treatments. It appeared to be undergoing some modernisation and redecoration during our visit.

We stayed 5 nights in this hotel during December 2014. The temperature outside varied between -12 and -26 degrees C. Overall the hotel was warm and our room was pleasantly warm. 

The general ambiance of the hotel was very institutional. The room was of reasonable size, having an entrance hallway, en-suite toilet and shower room, and a bedroom with 2 easy chairs, and a table and chairs. This furniture looked old. The beds and bedside cabinets were quite new.
The shower room was very dated and I found it extremely difficult to regulate the water temperature. There are no plugs in the sinks and I believe this is quite normal in Russia.  There was a smell from the tap water, but I believe this is common in Apatity. Although old and finished to a poor standard the hotel was reasonably clean. The room had two large windows which looked out over the sports hall and swimmimg pool to the Khibiny mountains. The winows were well sealed from draughts with large unsightly strips of foam rubber held in place with clear parcel tape.

The hot water went off during our stay due to renovations and we were without hot water for about a day. The lift had a fault and we could not use it on one of the days. 

Breakfast required 24 hours notice so we did not get breakfast on the first morning. Subsequent breakfasts were plentiful but very basic and certainly not to western European taste.

The swimming pool was also very dated and showed obvious signs of many repairs over the years, but the water was clean, warm, fresh and pleasant to swim in. The changing rooms were very good having been recently modernised.

Overall I believe this hotel gave me a unique Russian experience with a strong institutional traditional Soviet image, tempered with areas of modernisation. This is undoubtedly a poor hotel by western European standards but I would stay again if requiring accommodation in Apatity.
