Talnakh Hotel 

Considering where you are, this is a pretty decent hotel. I spent a week recently in the Norilsk area and used this hotel as a base. I found it very comfortable and functional, surprisingly good for a remote Arctic mining town. It has its quirks, but overall I had a good stay here. The hotel is located in the town of Talnakh, about 20km away from Norilsk city and the nasty smelters. Talnakh town is fairly boring and lacks character but the air is quite clean and fresh and there are nice forests around (unlike Norilsk). The rooms are basic but comfortable. I always had a really good sleep – except the one night where the disco was pumping at full volume. The bathroom was a bit smelly and the hot water supply wasn’t reliable, but in general things seemed to work fine. There is free Wifi in the rooms however it was extremely slow and only worked about 25% of the time. The room was clean and serviced daily. The restaurant was reasonably good. I ate all of my meals there (set menu) and never had the same thing twice. The food quality was good and reasonably tasty. The gym also was surprisingly good. I wasn’t expecting much, but found it to be well equipped with brand new gear – cardio gear, free weights, and machine weights – as well as a ping-pong table. The gear is all fairly low quality but it is new and it does the job. There is also a sauna at the hotel which is really nice after a day spent in the cold wind and rain. Overall, recommended for any travelers staying in the Norilsk area – a good comfortable base.
