My friend and I, both Indians not speaking Russian end up at this Russian family house who don't understand English. However the husband and wife, both in old age and their middle aged daughter were one of the most gracious hosts I have seen in Russia. The room is well equipped with tv and AC. Bathrooms and shower are very clean with availability of hot water. The location in a small town is very good and the family is very welcoming. They even allowed us to borrow their bicycles to roam around the town. All in all a great place to stay.

A fantastic home stay

It took some effort to find the place, but room was ok price good and breakfast good. The only point we did not like was that the ensuite shower had black mushhroom. The landlady bought immedeately desinfectant but this problem is not easily solved due to design errors. Nice garden and barbeque available.

A quiet b&b outside the center

It's a good hike out of town (and not in the direction of the bus station), but it's lovely and quiet.  Your host doesn't speak any English, but is very welcoming and friendly.  We stayed in the downstairs double room, which is large, with a flat screen TV, plenty of wardrobe space and two bedside tables.  There's also a small table, kettle and mugs and a sofa to sit on.  There is no Internet in this location.

The shower room and toilet are just outside the room.  The house has a lovely garden (but we didn't sit out in it) and it will take you 10-15 minutes to talk from the centre.  (note if you're carrying heavy bags, it's not flat!).

While booking.com said that meals weren't an option on the second morning we stayed here, we were served breakfast blini in our room - two each, just enough to keep us going until lunchtime.

Two houses away is a lovely little cafe bar, which does fabulous borscht and blini and a good line in German beer.  They have menu's in English but the staff don't speak English.  It has an outside seating area too.

Quiet, out of the way, Russian homestay

After reading the positive reviews, we were excited about our stay at Alexeevsky Dom. Unfortunately, we were not as pleased as others. 
The guesthouse is located about ten minutes walk from town. It is in a nice quiet area. If you are good with maps and directions you will have no issues locating the house. However, the street is not sign posted and the house is only marked with its address.  There is no sign on the house indicating it is a guesthouse. 
We arrived to  a warm welcome despite the language barrier and were shown our room.  The room was very  comfortable and clean.  The shared bathroom was clean and tidy. The door knob to our room broke our second day and the friendly older man kindly repaired it. 
Our disappointment began on the first night when we inquired about using the advertised 'shared kitchen'. The family reluctantly allowed us to use it once they vacated it. The next morning (or any of our 3 mornings) we were not provided with a breakfast despite the booking site stating 'daily breakfast buffet' and when we inquired we were told no breakfast. The third night we went to cook dinner in the kitchen and were directed to stop cooking because our garlic was smelling. The older lady proceeded to open all the windows and doors and refused us to continue cooking our dinner. (It was the same dinner we had made the first night.) So, we were left eating our partially prepared meal. 
The lack of breakfast and cooking facilities would not have been a problem had we not taken them into consideration when we booked.  For a budget traveler, having a breakfast included in the cost and being able to prepare your own meals is important. 
The owners need to advertise accurately. 
Had we not had the few issues, it would have been a lovely stay. However, after our experience I would suggest looking elsewhere or verify you are getting what you pay for.
