Chayka Hotel

The Chaika Hotel is in a residential area about a 20 minute walk from the tourist area. The map on Tripadvisor is wrong, actually showing the wrong direction which almost cause a problem for us. Make sure that you get good directions before heading out or back. I stayed here as part of a tour. The inside is nice and clean with paintings of landmarks at the stair landings. It looks like the building has been well renovated. We tended to have problems with the locks and had a bit of trouble getting in to the room. Once in you have to use your key to lock the door. It is a deadbolt lock so if you don’t have the key then you can’t get out. The room was okay except that the walls are very thin. I was awakened by a drunk in the next room talking loudly with his wife(?). He kept it up for 2 hours. The buffet looked good but food was not replenished quickly leaving little for the folks in the back of the line. Being diabetic I have to be careful to mix low carbs with proteins but the proteins are always the first to go. Finally they brought out some cold cuts so that I could eat. There is an Intourist Hotel near the sites that is much more convenient, but probably much more expensive. The Chaika is okay if you don’t mind the walk. If I return to Uglich on my own I would balance out the value. I would not mind staying here again.
