This modest hotel is located in a slightly hidden courtyard of the famous Ulitsa Lenina de Ulan Udé (which could be the Moscovite Arbat).Agile and English-free arrival customs of the receptionist who knows how to supply well with kindness, a translator and a desire to communicate and do things right.The rooms are on the second floor, without elevator or buttons, so the luggage goes up autonomously up the stairs to the quarters.A very large double room with bathroom, clean and cared for with a few courtesy items (gel, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste).The bathroom and pantry are a little antiquated but like everything else.The only defect is that the column, minus the room, our travel advisory, was not prepared for the morning, but some of our roommates had a room with 10 pancakes, where they could serve a few minutes before the breakfast, and some of our roommates had a breakfast, but some of them were prepared in the first floor, and some of them were treated with a pancakes.

Good location

The pictures look much more better than reality.
Bad experience at the check in: I booked a room with double bed and bath and receive and a single room.
They changed it but did not receive the bathroom with bath (only a small and not functional shower).
Many things do not work properly in the room.
The main door is permanently locked: in order to enter/exit the reception should open it (feel like to be in a prison).

I hope to provide a unique perspective from the other reviews as I did the Trans Siberian during winter,  when it was down to -32 degrees outside.

Pros

1. Menshikov is close to the centre. In -34 you only last around 20 minutes outside tops. The location was very helpful for exploring and resting, with a nearby Sberbank for foreign exchange, the museum of Ulan Ude History very close aa well as groceries. The Lenin Head and Buzza cafes are no more than 10 minutes away on foot. The bookstore across the road is excellent for gifts and souvenirs. 

2. There is an onsite restaurant. If you are so frozen you can not muster the energy to endure the blast of -30 outside, you can eat in the cozy warmth of the restaurant which is reasonably prices.

3. The showers have an individual hot water unit per room. 

4. Staff are helpful in calling taxis and showing me around the hotel (disclaimer: I speak Russian. When calling taxis they describe the number plate and car colour to you to meet outside and others may have struggled with this).

Cons which are not the hotel's fault, but rather due to extreme weather:

1. The rooms get cold when it's -30 or worse outside. Understandably the 2 heaters in my room probably worked as hard as they could and neutralised -30 to 0 degrees. Wear plenty of clothes to bed - thermals underneath thick trackpants and hoodies.

2. The water unit, while very hot, only lasts 10 minutes tops in -30 weather. Ladies, I recommend only washing your long hair in one trip, and actually showering in another alternating morning and night. If your hot water runs out,  wait about 40 minutes and it will return.

Cons: 
The door handle was a bit old and the lock security was a little questionable and definitely no natural light. Your skylight is covered in snow and attempting to open will end in disaster.

Given the challenges of extreme weather, I say the hotel has done a good job under the very difficult circumstances. Bring hand warming packs and lots of thermals to stay warm if coming to stay during a Siberian winter.

Nice visit in the middle of winter

The hotel is located in the centre of Arbat. There are many cafes, shops, attractions around. However, the loudspeaker announcing the advertisement does not shut up even at night, so if you have a delicate dream, you will not be able to sleep. The room is small, cozy. There is a comfortable bed, a table, chairs, glasses and teapot. The downside: pillows, which have one name left. The parking is closed, but it is on the other side of the building, and it is a few minutes walk around.

Hotel in the center

Menshikov hotel is located in a small courtyard off the pedestrianised bit of Lenin St
so about a 7 minute walk downhill from Sovetskaya Square.
There's a Bistro next door and a few other cafe/restaurants nearby.
The hotel offers room only but despite the lack of windows ( there are skylights) the rooms are neat, clean and comfortable and they're ensuite.

Great little hotel

In a quiet courtyard in a pedestrianised street in a calm and soothing city this hotel was the perfect place to end my two week Trans Siberian trip.

Nice, airy rooms--even if you cannot open the skylight--and a bath to soak in after a day's sightseeing.

We stayed in this hotel in June and were really pleased with our choice.  It was excellent value for money - friendly staff and a pleasant room in a great location (all major attractions in walking distance and a sunny courtyard outside where we could sit). We were able to park easily round the corner and there was an adjoining restaurant as well as places nearby to eat.

Throughly recommended - excellent value in great location

Advantages of the hotel: Very convenient location in the very center of the city. Voluntary staff. Low price. Residency before the usual check in time. Availability of air conditioning in the room. Access to a good Italian cafe right through the second floor of the hotel (which can be very convenient in case of heavy rain). Now about minutes: Absence of a fan in the room - every time you have to ask for a reception. Absence of an elevator, all rooms are located on the third floor, and coffee makers or at least just male employees who could help with your suitcases, were not prepared in the hotel until tomorrow morning. The price of the hot water delivery system was very cold this morning. In the bathroom or bathroom, nothing would have been left without our order of a degree of water.

Price/quality ratio at the level

The hotel is located in the heart of the city, and I especially liked the price of the room. There is a teapot in the room. There is air conditioning, which is very convenient. The downside is that we wish the staff more kindness and hospitality to the guests. There is no elevator, to climb high with things. We had a hallway room where it was very crowded. To open the windows, you have to take a special stick from the hallway and then take it back. There is no mosquito net, there are no mosquito nets at night, and it is very nice to sleep around. All night we listened to an automatic advertisement about all the nearby cafes, shower stalls and this very important information, in the morning, just one person through the sunlight of her brain could have already been running through the bathroom in a very short time.

The cheapest option in the city centre

The hotel is conveniently located in the centre of the attractions. Close to the car hall, waiting for the train station. We have room 3 in the hotel, comfortable room, on the ceiling window to the street)) The room has everything you need, except for no blankets, slept under a pillow. breakfast is delicious.
