I have stayed at Calao five times and I am adicted to the beautiful gardens, the restaurant and the wonderful international character. Just a short walk to the Lac du Rose in which u can float rather than swim - the salt lake is supposed to detox your skin/ Pierre and his charming wife manage the place superbly. Nice swimming pool and a great place to relax away from noisy Dakar or from a drive across the Desert.

THE BEST SPOT IN SENEGAL

We loved our stay here. The property is beautiful with individual casitas surrounded by flower and tree-line paths. There is a pretty pool in the center next to the restaurant and bar. There is also a great kids' play area with swings and a fort. The owners are wonderful and kind and it's a short few minute walk down to the lake. The little tourist village where you can arrange boat and quad bike rides is just a few minutes down the road. This is a great place for families but would also be good for a romantic getaway.

Lovely family run property with beautiful grounds

Upon arrival of Le Calao du Lac Rose I did not know what to expect. However, once we walked inside to this oasis to swimming pools and bars I had a great feeling we had chosen the right place. We were seated over the pink water and could see the local workers in the background. The wind had a nice breeze and the relaxation of the atmosphere was superb. The food was a great value for your money and the service was nice as well.

Delightful service and wonder views of Lac Rose

This quiet and beautiful paradise close to the enchanting Lac du Rose (pink salt lake in which one can float like Dead Sea) has everything for back-packers and tourists alike. Pierre (Swiss) is a linguist and excellent cook. Swimming pool is embraced by an exotic garden and there are plenty of things for kids to do. Rates are extremely reasonable. Highly recommended. You MUST go into the lake if u have never experienced the floating effect...

TRANQUIL OASIS CLOSE TO SCENIC LAC DU ROSE

You really need to have a strong motivation to visit the Lac Rose. The Calao is a nice place but the lake itself offers nothing but dull view. The reputation of the lake is just a proof of the power of tourism industry,  the salt mines and the land around the lake are covered of plastic bags and other waste, while you should really consider the environmental impact of going up and down on the small sand dunes with the 4x4 or quads. All in all a poor experience where the Calao is just one (avarage) piece of it.
