I stayed three nights in February 2020. This is a great guesthouse run by a local family in Yoff. The place is spacious, simple, and clean with great views from the rooftop and a nice communal balcony. The proprieters were extremely helpful. For example, Fabio helped me find, and get a great deal on a quality djembe. The location was convenient and within easy walking distance of the beach, a variety of shops, ATM, etc.

Clean, simple, affordable accomms run by friendly family

(+) I would call this place very basic and affordable. The guesthouse is very close to the shore. However, the ocean is not as clean as we expected. There are a few local restaurants around but if you want to have a dinner at a decent place, you have to go somewhere by taxi, which are not expensive in Dakar. Or you can order a dinner at guesthouse for 3.500 CFA p.p. We had to leave before 6 a.m., so cannot say anything about the breakfast. 

(-) We arrived quite early, before noon, left our luggage and went to Ngor island. When we came back, the host lady complained that there was overbooking and that the room that we booked is occupied by the others and offered us another room with a shared bath room for lower price. We did not have any other choice. Later on we got a notification that besides a lower price we got a 2 hour later check our. Unfortunately we could not use this privilege because our flight back was early in the morning.

Basic guesthouse for an affordable price

I asked to be picked up at the airport by a driver (you do want to bepicked up at 2am!!) and that worked very well.
I only stayed a short night. Room was extermly clean, breakfast simple but enough and good.
Fabio goes out of his  way to help you with all sort of informations ans services.

Clean, friendly, reliable, service oriented

I stayed in Ker Jahkarlo for 3 nights in October 2014.

I was received at the airport as requested by the family who own the place. Fabio (the owner) was really superb, offering useful help and advice about the city of Dakar.

The accommodation itself was lovely. Set in a quieter suburb of the city, but the beach is 5 minutes walk away as is an ATM and a petrol/gas station to buy groceries. The accommodation also features a pleasant roof-top terrace and free fast wi-fi which worked throughout my stay.

My room was really good with a comfortable bed and fully functioning bathroom. The room also included a mosquito net which was handy. Fabio also let me rent a towel free of charge.

The accommodation also offer guests meals. I had a breakfast of fresh bread with jam and the magnificent local "Café Touba" coffee. For dinner I had locally caught fish grilled with salad and chips. Both really tasty.

I paid 18000CFA ($35) a night for an en-suite room which I thought was brilliant value.

If you are looking for a place to stay in Dakar I highly recommend this place.

Excellent in so many ways

Ker Jahkarlo was the perfect place to stay for what I was looking for. It was very clean, the beds were comfortable and sleeping was very easy at night, there was free Wifi (the fastest I have seen during 12 months of travel around Africa), a fully-outfitted kitchen available for use, a cozy back patio, a breezy rooftop terrace (where you can even see a small sliver of ocean!), comfortable seating, and secure cubbies to lock valuables, even in the dorms. Ker Jahkarlo is by no means a romantic of upscale guesthouse, but it is very safe and comfortable. Perhaps the best thing of all is the family that owns the place. Fabio Gatti (the owner) is a wonderful, friendly man, and he went well out of his way to help me get around and feel comfortable in Dakar. He also speaks English, French, and Italian, and has a great collection of djembes and other traditional instruments. He stays onsite at Ker Jahkarlo with his family, who is also very welcoming and friendly. They even invited me to join them for a feast they had prepared on the final day of Ramadan.

The location of Ker Jahkarlo is great. It is only about 10 minutes from the airport, and is a 2-minute walk from a great stretch of beach, where I saw people swimming, flying kites, playing football, enjoying drinks and freshly grilled fish, etc. Also within a few minutes walk is a great patiserrie with a wide selection of foods, including shawarma, burgers, salads, drinks, coffee, pain au chocolat, and just about any other bread product you can think of.

The common room was a bit noisy during some times of the day when children were playing or watching TV, but the family kids are very fun and the noise never lasted too long. Most importantly, the nighttimes were always really quiet and I never had any trouble sleeping.

I noticed there was one review mentioning that the price of staying here was a bit steep. Psh! For a safe, comfortable, friendly, clean, and excellently-located guesthouse with fast, free Wifi, it is certainly worth 7000 CFA (~$14 USD) per night.

Jahkarlo is no luxury hotel, but it is everything I wanted from a guesthouse and more! Staying at Jahkarlo felt like living at home.

Feels just like home, only at a wonderful location in Dakar!

the place is very close to the very live main street, but the area is very bite at night, no noise will disturb you. the place is lovely and clean, the family who own the place is friendly, lovevly and loveble. i love it!!! highly raccomended
