Stayed for 3 days - Firstly, the chalet was great - very pretty and in the best location, just a few yards from beautiful Anse Severe beach. Comfy beds, great aircon, everything you need. Its about a 10 minute walk from the jetty so we wheeled our cases quite easily back and forth to save on a taxi.

But my main praise has to go to the owner Frank - concierge of the year! We got to the apartment, and when I went to pay, realised that I couldn't find my phone. In my phone case I had my credit and debit cards, and my driving licence (yeah, I know). Basically everything needed for someone nasty to clean me out and clone my identity.

To realise how much of a mess you've got in in the first hour of your holiday.... well, I've had better times... Frank went on a mission - he cycled down to the jetty to check there - he phoned the ferry company to find out if my phone had been handed in on either of the ferries (Mahe to Praslin, and Praslin to La Digue). He even phoned the cafe at the jetty back in Mahe to see if I'd left it on a table there. He is well known on La Digue, and contacted everyone he could, including the police station, to make sure if it got handed in anywhere he'd know about it.

And about 2 hours of mindless panic later, Frank got a phone call from the hotel down the road - my phone had fallen out of my pocket while wheeling the cases, and had been handed in. Relief!

Frank and his wife Helen own the O'Soleil chalets and their daughter Seychelle, runs Bikini Bottom - the amazing beach bar on Anse Severe. Drinks to die for (cocktails come in pints) in the most incredible setting. If you're an animal lover, there are amazing dogs everywhere, and also a giant tortoise who potters around the bar getting scratches off the customers!

My only regret is that we only stayed on La Digue for 3 days. We didn't get time to do half of what we wanted. 

We'll be back in a year or two, and we'll definitely stay in O'Soleil again. So thanks again, Frank, for absolutely going above and beyond and saving our holiday!


Frank saved the day!

Thanks to Frank and Helen for their hospitality. Me and my mom have really enjoyed our stay. The cottage was spacious-separate bedroom and big kitchen/living room area with a sofa and an  additional bed, plus sitting area outside. Well equipped kitchen, perfectly functioning bathroom, all clean and well organised. We loved having dinner on the porch surrounded by the beautiful garden. Amazing beach with great snorkelling spots (turtles, eagle ray and a shark even) is 1 min away! That was the best experience. Also, there is an outdoor shower where we could rinse off all the sand and the equipment, so convenient. We got 2 well functioning bikes to get around the island at the property. Place is close to jetty, restaurants and shops, car was only necessary to get the suitcases in from/to the jetty, otherwise cycle or walk to shops/nearest restaurants. Info card in the cottage had useful recommendations about the island (some yummy restaurants mentioned). We could safely leave our bags before and after check-out. Owner's dogs were super cute. Planning to go there again this year. Thank you!

O'soleil review

My wife and I were excited about staying at O’Soleil Chalets based on the positive reviews. Sadly, the guesthouse and our overall interactions with the owners left us feeling disappointed, unimpressed, and more than a bit weirded out, even if the setting was a gorgeous paradise.

For context, we are mature, respectful, and experienced world travelers that have traveled the globe for over four decades.  We have stayed in literally 100’s of vacation rentals, many of them in tropical destinations.  We get the challenges, idiosyncrasies, and limits of living on an island.  We made a deliberate effort to be thoughtful, fair, and objective in our review, and report factual observations from our stay, rather than injecting too much of our subjective opinion into this review until our last comment.  We hope the owners can accept the feedback, and use it as an opportunity to address the concerns and shortcomings so future guests can have a more enjoyable and comfortable stay, rather than discounting or dismissing honest feedback, as they have done with other guest reviews.  We certainly would want to know about the issues we experienced if we were considering staying at O’Soliel.

First off, Frank and Helen were both pleasant, welcoming, and several times told us to ask them for anything we needed. The AC worked well, and kept the bedroom cool.  Helen was helpful in ordering us a cab to meet us at the Mahe jetty to take us to the airport.  They also allowed us to keep our bags at their house after check out for a few hours while we waited for our ferry to depart.  The maid and her partner who helped with bike rentals were lovely people and helpful.

The most disconcerting, and disturbing aspect about our stay at O’Soleil Chalets is the surveillance camera that is mounted on the front porch of the unit.  The camera is pointed at the front door and kitchen window.  Because of the heat and humidity, it’s necessary during the day to leave the front door open to allow a slight breeze to move through the family room and kitchen area.  (The air conditioning unit does a good job of cooling the bedroom, but is unable to also cool the family room and kitchen).  Frank made no mention of the surveillance camera at check-in, nor is there any mention of the cameras in the Air B and B description. When we messaged Frank about the cameras, his (delayed) response was the cameras were functioning, but “for now they are not recording.” He added that Helen planned to bring monitors to begin recording guest activity in the rentals.  He made no effort to ask how we felt about having camera monitor us, and its impact on our sense of privacy.  He did not ask what he could do to make us feel more comfortable, like perhaps turning the cameras off for our stay.  Ultimately, we simply turned the camera 90 degrees so it pointed away from the inside of our unit to help maintain our privacy.  Helen’s only comment regarding our query about the surveillance camera was to call our questions ‘odd.’  

There was no offer to pick us up at the jetty upon arrival.  From previous reviews and photos on TripAdvisor it appears this was a courtesy they offered, but apparently no longer do.  We saw several other vacation rentals offering this service for their guests using electric carts (there are very few private vehicles on the island).

Relative to the many other Air BnB hosts we’ve stayed with over the years, Both Frank and Helen were slow to respond to our messages on several occasions, and at times required us to send follow-up messages to get a response to our questions.  For example, after bringing to Frank’s attention the safe was not working, he stated he would put new batteries in “first thing in the morning.”  A day and half later, he had not replaced the batteries so we sent him a reminder message.  He sent someone several hours later to replace the batteries, but the safe was never fixed.  Frank did not offer an alternative to keep our valuables secure, nor did he offer an apology for the safe being broken.  We asked Helen one evening about a late check out, and she responded about 24 hours later after us prompting her, despite saying she would get back to us the next morning. 

Not only was their communication slow, it was also absent.  Our last morning, the power went out 2 hours prior to check out.  Fortunately, we started charging our devices before this happened.  We asked our neighbors if they knew what happened, and they reported Frank informed them around 11:30 pm the night before that there would be a scheduled power outage for 6 or 7 hours the next day starting at 8:30 am on that side of the island for municipal repairs.  Unlike our neighbors, Frank and Helen did not inform us about this information, nor did he notify another renter who came out of her unit to ask us why she had lost power.  

The rental lacked basic kitchen cooking items like salt, pepper, sugar, cooking oil, despite their Air B and B description listing these as amenities that are included with the rental.  We bought a two-month supply of these items all for under $5, and we left them behind for our fellow travelers to use.  There were no paper towels or napkins (cloth or paper).  We asked Frank about this amenity, but he did not offer to supply any napkins or paper towels saying it was not something they supplied.  We have never stayed at a rental that did not have, at a minimum, these basic kitchen items. 

There was an extra fold up bed stored in one corner of the family room, and an extra twin bed left in another corner of the family room, making the space feel like a storage unit.

We were told by Frank and Helen’s son, who runs a snack stand at the beach, that because we were staying at the guesthouse he would allow us to use, free of charge, better snorkel equipment than was available to rent at Bikini Bottoms (a fruit smoothie stand run by Frank and Helen’s daughter).  This turned out to be an offer his son reneged on the next day, and we ended up renting snorkeling equipment from Bikini Bottoms.  We tried three different masks and all were torturously uncomfortable, and were impossible to get a decent seal to prevent water from seeping in.  There were only 2 sets of fins available: a child’s size and one adult size set that were of very poor quality.  To be fair, we were only charged for one of the three days we had the gear.

The landscaping vegetation that separated our bungalow porch from the road (about 25 feet away) provided a partial visual screen, but unfortunately there are large gaps in the vegetation.  During the day there is a steady stream of bicyclists, electric carts, and small construction trucks that run by the guesthouse due to it being right on the main road and because the rental is about 50 yards from one of the most popular beaches: Anse Severe.  Consequently, it was difficult to feel a sense of privacy as we were almost constantly being peered at by people as we sat on our porch.

Beach towels were provided after asking for them, but the towels were small, old, and worn, with one them having holes in it.

Lastly, there were no batteries in the smoke alarm.

After our 10-day stay, we are baffled and more than a bit dubious of the almost exclusively positive Air B and B reviews of O’Soleil Chalets. Trip Advisor appears to offer more accurate and representative reviews of the rentals.  It is also mystifying how having a surveillance camera which captures and records guests’ private life inside a vacation rental is NOT mentioned in the Air B and B description, is not addressed by the owner upon arrival, and the guests’ concerns about privacy were dismissed by Frank and Helen.

Overall, it felt like Frank and Helen were trying to cut corners, save a little money, and so the feel to the rental was cheap and miserly. This is a shame, because it would take such little effort and a small investment to correct even a few of these rental shortcomings, and doing so would improve the overall experience.  We encourage you to look elsewhere for accommodations on La Digue; you can do better than O’Soleil, IOHO.


Disappointing and disconcerting stay

I enjoyed my stay at Osoliel Chalets very much. The atmosphere is fantastic and the location is so wonderful.  The location is central to all parts of the island. The beach is steps away and right next to it is a great hang out. Bikini Bottoms has wonderful fresh made juices and Beach Bite offers great snacks. The fresh fries are great. I highly recommend this place to stay.

Wonderful stay in paradise

We stayed 4 nights, love the surroundings of the garden outside, very peaceful.  Everything was very clean & comfortable. Well stocked kitchen. Frank & Helen are excellent hosts and made our stay very nice. Close proximity to the beautiful Anse Severe beach where we enjoyed fresh juice at Bikini Bottom & snacks from the bar. Close to jetty & shops, walking distance to restaurants we loved the chalets.  Really enjoyed our stay

Wonderful visit to La Digue

Our stay at Frank and Helens beautiful place was perfect! We stayed in their superior room which means an appartement for our family. A family bedroom with 2 large beds where our two girls and we could sleep. A large sitting area, although we didn’t spend much time there. The kitchen is fully equipped with large fridge and supplies. The house was cleaned every day and a towel change after a few days. Cleaning personal  was lovely! Placed fresh flowers in the house, gave us home made food and always a smile. The location of the house couldn’t be better. Really close to the beach Anne Severe, were we watched the sunset every day. Perfect swimming and snorkelling just 2 minutes away. Special mention for the garden. The houses are playfully located in a tropical garden with colourful flowers. Siting on the porch and looking at the tropical plants and birds was a delight. Unfortunately we didn’t meet Helen, but Frank was so very nice and helpful. He advised us what taxi to take, the good places te go for food, shell searching and which snorkelling trip to take. All advises were spot on. Thank you Frank, for receiving us in your little peace of paradise. Our girls loved it and even though we thought we would visit Seychelles just once, we might just return some day. And thank you for the birthday coconut :) Lots of greetings and smiles from the Netherlands.

A peace of paradise

Very warm welcome from Helen when we arrived after a long journey! Frank was extremely helpful giving us information about the best places to eat. The bikes were an absolute must as we used them ALL the time. Blaze kindly gave us some bike locks but we never actually used them. 
This was our 3rd stay on La Digue and by far and away the best accommodation we have stayed in. VERY VERY QUIET and absolutely perfect location. Literally a minute walk to the beautiful beach at Anse Severe where we snorkelled every day. We were lucky enough to swim with the turtles almost every day. 
The Bikini Bottom bar was perfect to enjoy a delicious cocktail whilst watching the beautiful sunsets. Best spot on the island! 
Bed was super comfy and a fabulously large walk in shower was very welcome after a day covered in sand! Everything you could ever need and more in the kitchen and air conditioning welcome as it was very very hot. 
Will definitely recommend this accommodation to friends and family. Thank you to the whole family for welcoming us to your little piece of paradise!

Location, Location, Location

I just returned from a four nights stay from this wonderful property located 2 minutes walk from Anse Severe - one of La Digue's most famous and beautiful spots! Upon arrival we were met by Frank who warmly welcomed us to his wonderful boutique hotel providing the essential information to make our stay and time at La Digue

Home away from Home at La Digue!

I had a wonderful experience at o’Soleil Chalets. The grounds where filled with beautiful fruit trees, flowers and trees which made our chalet feel secluded.  The rooms where spacious, clean, and comfortable. I also felt safe and secure in this location.  Anse Severe Beach was a very short walk from the chalets. This particular self catering hotel is on the side of the island that feels serene and not too crowded but yet not to far to bike to the center of town. The owners of the chalet where awesome, they gave us good tips and information.  I gave 5 stars cause overall for the price, the standard of the accommodations and the comfort level… I felt I was home away from home.

La Digue, Seychelles Best Spot to stay on the Island. You’ll feel like it’s your home away from home.

To start, when I arrived at  O'Soleil Chalets, I was overtaken by the beauty of the landscaping.  You feel as if you are in your private piece of paradise. The chalets are spaced in a way that you can hang out on your porch and still feel like you have privacy. I noticed many other properties require you to walk down a scary dirt road or street, but with this property, there is no ugly isolated road to walk down or neighborhood you have to enter. The entry is off the main street, and the property is well lit.  I stayed in the larger chalet with a great open living space, a bedroom with two queen beds, and a nice size BR w/oversized shower.  It is very clean and stocked with everything you need to call it home for the next week or so (fridge, stove/oven, pots, Tupperware, glasses, etc.). Excellent internet service (I finished a class, logged on to Zoom, streamed with no issues).  It is a stone's throw from Anse Severe. You walk out of the property and cross the street. To me, this location is ideal because it's a large beautiful beach not full of people and great for snorkeling.  You can stop off at Bikini Bottom and grab a refreshing drink while you are there. It's a quick walk or bike ride to La Paz (city center-5 min). O'Soleil Chalets is a self-catering establishment (no daily cleaning- and you cook for yourself), but Helen and Frank go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable, and they are fantastic hosts. They are more than willing to assist you with navigating the island (securing a bike, finding fresh seafood to buy, cooking the fish you caught that day, what restraunts to try,  arranging a taxi, or in my case- trying to retrieve my missing luggage from Mahe; without their help, I'd still be waiting on my luggage to this day). Just a reminder- this is the tropics, bring your bug spray. Expect to see critters from time to time (in the house and out), its part of living on a humid island :) Very happy with my stay and I can't wait to return.

Absolutely The Most Beautiful Place on Earth

The nicest people i have ever met on la digue, very welcoming, the place was amazing and so comfortable, very peaceful too. The bed felt like i was sleeping on clouds. I couldn’t ask for a better place to stay on la digue. It was close to the beach where there was a bar called bikini bottom, refreshing drink on a hot sunny day. They offered bicycle as well. The guest house was very spacious it had everything you need and a spacious shower too. I couldn’t ask for more and what made it better that we was surrounded by amazing people making our stay a million times better, i loved how they wrote down places that they knew is a must to know making it easier to know where to go to find what you need.  I will definitely go there again!!!😍

A getaway to remember

Helen was from the offset super helpful with information.  We are vegan and were concerned about the availability of plant based milk and margerine.  Helen obtained both of these for us as they are not available on La Digue.  She even went further and ensured we had bread and gave us fruit.  She also met us at the jetty.  We cannot say enough about the service.  Two other awesome aspects of her service was to upgrade us and tumble dry our washing.  The chalets are great, clean, well appointed ..... not to mention the super comfortable bed and amazing linen.  We would highly recommend this accommodation.

Wonderful location and great hosts

We met Helen and Frank the owners after being in appartments without WiFi and with lockdown and kids and husband needing to work we couldn’t manage on mobile data alone. We saw their daughter and son at their beach bar bikini bottom and they recommended their appartments. 

They have a range of appartments/ chalets available, they are very spacious and have all the facilities you need to self cater and feel very homely with nice clean decor and some little homely items around for decor. 

Let’s start with the location

Nestled just moments from the beach Anse Severe (my favourite beach on la digue) the chalets are in a large plot of tropical gardens set back from the road. You come out of the main port turn left and head up past the cemetery (beautiful plants and flowers to see) and just after the top brow of the hill is Helen and Frank’s home and below them are the chalets and appartments. 

The kitchen dining area is not air conditioned, there is a large fan for the area it’s a huge and comfortable space with a tv, WiFi, gas cooker/electric oven, fridge freezer, microwave and plenty of cupboard space. The sofa is very comfortable!

The main bed is huge comfortable with deep mattresses. The bathroom is a toilet and large stand-in shower.

They provided us two single beds for the teenagers, as well as a desk inside for one and a table on porch for husband and other teen and a second fan for the porch. 

Frank and Helen are amazingly accommodating and are more then willing to help you with anything from arranging boat trips to additional services. 

If you wish to have a home from home I would suggest here. We were made welcome and have become firm friends. 

I wish we could stay longer. 

The beach is beautiful can be very shallow and has a reef inside, you need beach shoes for walking around the reef when tide is low and snorkelling is a must as they have a turtle there along with rays and so many tropical fish!

I can’t wait to come again. 

The best holiday wver

Spot on, you couldn't hit it any better! 
Helen and Frank make you feel you're back in the family! The most beautiful and colourful Chalets, spotless, comfy with it's tasteful  interior give you a feeling that you might invite "Hemingway for dinner tonight"! 
Situated in a tropical dream garden, the coconuts and Papayas walk right on your porch breakfast table. If you don't embrace it as your home after a few days, there's definitely something wrong with you! Helen and Frank's lovely, big hearted kids are a perfect extension in the family business. Blaze takes care of a great fleet of bikes, Seychelle and Tommy run the Bikini Bottom Juice Bar, just a minute away on Anse Severe Beach, holding daily, stunning sunsets in their beach entertainment repertoire...as you do ;-) ...and you don't wanna miss their fresh juices and cocktails-oh yeah! Oh, and for you ever suspicious bedding hypochondriacs, the beds are cloud 9! Can't help it, I'm still a hopeless romantic, who loves the charms of the old turn of the century Mississippi and Florida style. That's what Melanie and myself found here on La Digue, living a dream on this wonderland island in the Indian Ocean. ...Gotta a go, prepare a coconut curry lunch for Huck Finn and Captain Sparrow ! Hope I'll y'all soon here at Osoleil Anse Severe. Keep it up and Stay gold!

Tropical Wonderland Accommodation !

La digue is a phenomenal island and what actually completes the experience is the right place to stay and that's where O'Soleil Chatlet comes into play , with ideal villas , lovely decor and amenities it is perfect.

The villa is situated close to the beach and cycles are available which very convenient.

You must try the bikini bottom bar which is a few meters down by the villas and it offers some spectacular fruit shakes and drinks

Perfect Stay

We planned the trip of a lifetime and were going to island hopping between the 3 major islands, staying at O'Soleil Chalets for 1 night. Literally a few days before our flight from Florida to Seychelles in March, at the very beginning of the pandemic, our flight was cancelled due to border closures. To say we were disappointed would be an immense understatement. I immediately reached out to all the host, and they were all gracious and understanding expect 1. The host for O'Soleil Chalet was not only unsympathetic but was actually quite rude in his response, stating that Seychelles borders were not closed and implied that the virus was "fake news". Booking.com and my credit card company tried to advocate for me and the host still refuses to refund the cost for 1 night. In my opinion this is a horrible business practice for potential repeat business, not to mention inviting bad karma.

What a amazing place...the hosts were the best and couldn’t think of a better place to stay...it’s steps from an amazing beach and the beach bar run by their daughter just down the street is awesome. their family welcomed us like family and that is why we wouldn’t stay anywhere else...thanks again to frank, Helen, and their family. 

Amazing place

Had the pleasure of spending two nights at this superbly positioned guest house located meters from the picturesque Anse Severe beach. The rooms were fully equipped with everything one needs - with a wonderfully comfortable bed and glorious shower being particular highlights. The setting of this charming and quaint guesthouse is nestled within a beautiful garden as well. 
The hosts clearly take great pride in ensuring their guests are at ease and happy at all times and are both extremely generous with their time and hospitality. An additional bonus is the Bikini Bottom juice bar just round the corner which serves up some stunningly delicious juices combining the finest local fruits available!!

SUPERB!!

We stayed here for 4 nights during January. The owners were super friendly and helpful. The smaller two chalets are seperate bungalows and the larger two are detached together. All of the chalets have a nice veranda and are surrounded by a well kept garden. We stayed at a smaller chalet about 60 m2 and it had a bedroom with a bathroom and here the air-conditioning was very good. There was a safety box at the bedroom. The kitchen living room area had a fan and did get pretty hot since the climate at the islands is hot and humid. The bed was not full width and did sqeak when you turned. There was a frozer at the chalet so we could make ice cubes which was very nice. Towels were also provided. You can not see the beach from the chalet, so there is no seaview. The beach is near and the location was excellent. I'm happy we chose this accommondation since this was one of the nicest on this island.
