Unfortunately, we stayed in the suite in summer: the living room is uninhabitable for the heat, the sofa bed on the ground floor is short and uncomfortable. The apartment is quite spacious, the bathroom is windowless and very poorly cleaned. The idea of living in the art is original and even the cafe offers good cocktails. Unfortunately breakfast is not served before 9 and so you have to be content with a croissant head to head in the room, not to say anything fragrant. The city is small and worth a short visit, the residence is in the historic center and unfortunately the car and luggage have to be parked far away.

Unbearable heat

We arrived in the afternoon of Pasquetta, but no one to wait for us. Our reservation included breakfast, established at 8:00 (by the owner). But at 9:00 there was nothing, so we had to go out and go under the rain in a nearby bar. Breakfast was however deducted from the amount, due to their spontaneous compulsion. So the beautiful and safe characteristic of the youngsters in the centre was taken care of, and we managed it very well, but with a little attention from some of the guys in the centre, who could not be better organized by Kranj.

The place is great and the staff is smiling! On the ground floor you have a bar with tables set up in the very nice garden. On the first floor you have the art gallery and then under the roof there are the rooms. Breakfast was served in a basket placed in front of our door :) I really liked the place!

We arrived to the hotel very late and the hotel was very accommodating. Great staff, all very friendly. Breakfast was also very nice and the terrace area is good. Would definitely stay again if visiting Kranj.

Whilst this is a place to stay it also has a small coffee shop on the terrace that is well frequented by locals.  Always a good sign. Simple fare and you won't find the the local sausage but superb vegetarian soup, great bread and simple toasted sandwichs, and I suspect good coffee though we didn't have one.  Should also be in the restaurant section.

The location was really beautiful: a historic building rearranged by a group of artists with a beautiful terrace on the surrounding rivers. Our room (studio) was large and spacious. The breakfast was plentiful and varied (though not customized, since it is a standard basket) with even the juice (believed to be frozen mustard) squeezed by them at the time, really good. Our room (studio) had the bed attached to a wall was not very comfortable, and the remarkable slope of the roof required remembering to lower your head every time you approached the outside of the apartment.

Layer Art Residences is situated in a very old town in Kranj that has been well maintained and trtains its olde character and is a very arts focussed town with interesting galleries, bars, places to stay and a small range of interesting shops. We stayed at the Layer resident for 11 nights and ranks as one of the friendliest places we have booked. Normally we stay in 4/5 star hotels so this was a different type of place to stay. The staff are super friendly, professional and efficient. We now consider the staff to be friends,  Good bar and rear terrace looks out to the mountains. They have artists in Residence so you can watch as they create all forms of artistic endeavours and some pieces can be purchased. We will return.
