This is probably exactly what you're looking for if you're to stay in a small town in Slovenia. A 10 minute walk from the medieval town is what you want if you're driving. The family that manages the place is helpful and responsive, the rooms are spotless, and the breakfast is good. Absolutely no complaints, and you'll get to experience life in a small Slovenian town. Parking is available onsite.

Stay with the family

We found Megušar accommodation on internet randomly; not knowing what to expect, but we were surprised by kindness of the family, especially the owner Matej. The room was modern, very clean and with a car park in front of the building. The accommodation is a five minute walking distance to town centre and most of Škofja Loka attractions. We highly recommend it to both families and individuals. The breakfast was outstanding as well as an after sales service as we required an additional copy of purchase proof and they replied instantly.

Great location! From that point it was easy to travel to: bled and bohinj on the west, Ljubljana on the east and postonja caves in the south. Skofja loka is a lovely and peaceful town. There is a creek just outside the house.
Matej is the greatest! Always willing to help with everything you need, and always with a smile. The fresh breakfast is excellent.  Matej, thanks for everything! You're the greatest host!

The real name of this hotel is "Turistična kmetija Megušar".
In the old town you suddenly find yourself in a modern, very clean and well maintained comfortable building with very friendly and helpful team. The hotel's owner personally ensures that all guests feel as at home.
Highly recommended for ALL guests of the Škofja Loka!!!

We arrived in the week at the beginning of September 2017:
We had a lot of fun!!! The room was very cozy, clean, comfortable and comfortable (I would add some more shelves in the wardrobe ...). Excellent location: central and convenient for star walks.
The host is very nice, accommodating and helpful in any request / idea.
Breakfast is good.
Do not give up the fruit jam they make themselves ... We also bought and brought home.

I booked the accommodation after reading the reviews in Tripadvisor. Matej - the owner is welcoming and efficient. As others have said, breakfast included berries, milk, butter, sausage from the farm and fresh bread. Fruit juices and coffee when you want in the communal kitchen/dining area. 
We booked a room, but there are self contained apartments too if you want to self-cater in the evenings.

There is a small local shop 4 minutes away and a small Mercator supermarket about the same walking time. It's under 10 minutes walk towards the centre of Skofja Loka to a department store, bank, post office and bus station. Another few minutes allow you to be in the old town part of Skofja Loka.

Taking the bus is an ideal way to get into the capital Ljubljana. The train station is a longer walk to the outskirts of town from the accommodation so really the bus is the way. Inexpensive and only around 40 minutes.

The accommodation is excellent, Matej and his family are good hosts and keep it perfectly clean.
We had no problem getting some laundry done. You can also book the Wellness Suite with hot tub and sauna for a few hours at a time. 

It is part of a working farm so for town people yes, occasionally there are country smells. 
We'd definitely return. Good restaurants and cafes in town.
A noticeable point is that in most shops and cafes, people speak very good English but not French or German so everyone that's not local will be speaking English. We should learn Slovene!

Absolutely fantastic place, will be definitely back for longer stay.
Friendly and helpful staff, with new, large, clean rooms and nice view to hills just next to small river. Within walking distance to old town Skofja Loka.
