The FOH were unmanned for the majority of the time we were there. The Friday after checking in, although it was nice and quiet, the manager, a male friend and two female friends were so loud on the boat near the restaurant that we left early. Clearly they weren’t paying guest but they were a nuisance to us, we couldn’t even use the pool, because they took that over as well. The Saturday morning when I passed by the restaurant, the bar lady were picking up used condoms. Bad management but overall good experience.

Management

What an amazing spot right on the river, with plenty of shade and well watered lawns, amazing hot swimming pool and activities for all. Caters for everyone - if you don't feel like camping you can choose from the various levels of accommodation, eat at the restaurant or sit around the bar area. River trips, trail runs and hikes - just gorgeous! I rated sleep quality 4 only because of the mozzies as we were camping - but no refecltion on the accommodation!

Family camping holiday

If you like heat, don't mind a 10 hour drive to the Kalahari, want to spend your stay right on the Orange River - then visit the Khamkirri resort - just outside Kakamas, Kalahari.  
From 15 - 21 December 2023, we stayed in a 2-sleeper chalet at Khamkirri.  Day temperatures are around 40 oC - do not think you'll cool down in the shower - there's NO cold water in the taps.  At all.  Not even at bedtime or early morning – even the toilet flushes hot!!!
The chalet has a big open-plan kitchen and lounge (with aircon) and big folding doors that open up to the undercover patio with a built-in braai, as well as a table and chairs.  Bedroom has big bed, but sadly (well, for me anyway) not NEARLY enough space for clothes.  I made do, but it was a stretch.  .  
Big restaurant on premises - closes between 3 and 6pm.  Didn't eat there, but enjoyed a cold one on the patio right next to the river. 
They have lovely walking trails and wild, although I only managed to see Springboks on 1 of my walks.


Hot, but enjoyable.

We really enjoyed staying at Khamkirri. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely view over the Orange River. The food at the restaurant was also very nice. We would definitely recommend the place. 

Loved staying at Khamkirri

We had actually booked to sleep one night at Riemvasmaak on our way to Kgalagadi. We battled to get our car out of Riemvasmaak, due to massive pot holes. (See my review on Riemvasmaak) We left our trailer at the bottom bend of the hotsprings and rode to Khamkiri. A friendly young man named Werner met us as we drove in. We told him about our stuck trailer. He immediately phoned his manager and they arranged the whole recovery operation while we could go and relax in their lovely deck area overlooking the Orange river. By the time we finished our superb lunch and a game of Scrabble our trailer arrived safely. We were quite happy to pay the small fee for the recovery and could enjoy the rest of our stay at this wonderful place with excellent staff. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

This is one of the most amazing places we have stayed in a long time. Thank you to all the staff, Werner, Alison and all the other people who works there. They made our stay pleasant, and they were very friendly. We would recommend Khamkirri to all our friends and family.

Amazing stay - Khamkirri - Jedri & Belinda

Great place!!!
We camped at private ablution campsite. Shady, nice big trees and grass. Super clean and well kept bathroom. Double basin outside, under roof with paved area. Very friendly staff. Great food at restaurant. 

Hidden gem

Firstly, the location is stunning, The resort is on the north bank of the Orange river about 15km from Kakamas on a gravel road which is in pretty good condition. You can get provisions at the spar in Kakamas en route. Its a really good location if you want to visit Augrabies or are en route to Namibia or just want a peaceful place to be for a few days. 

Secondly facilities, the restaurant and bar are very good and well priced. We had superb sunsets and drinks at the bar on the deck overlooking the river. The river has been in flood for a very long time now so until it goes down, no river activities unfortunately. There are 2 swimming pools and sun loungers with parasols which on hot days are much appreciated! The safari tent we had was very well equipped with all that we needed for some light cooking/braaing. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was modern and worked very well. The aircon unit proved invaluable...at least until load shedding stopped play when it got a bit hot overnight.

Thirdly, the staff were all super helpful and charming and couldn't do enough for you.

Top tips. Make sure you have a phone that works as when you arrive at the property gate you need to phone them to get the gate open/gain entrance.... as a foreign visitor my phone was out of voice airtime when we arrived but I had data so I had to send an email and hope it was seen! The other thing I would say is that the water is definitely not potable....it needs to be filtered to be used so if you are coming by car, bring lots of fresh clean water with you. We were on motorbikes so couldn't do this but luckily had a small water filter with us.  I think it would be a nice addition to put some clean cold water in the fridge for guests on their arrival to start them off. Our fridge wasn't on when we arrived and took a while to cool down so off to the bar for some cold beers!  If you arrive on a Sunday, bear that in mind that the bar and restaurant close at 1400 to give the staff some well earned time off so have food/drinks with you.

Super Location Camping and Lodge on the Orange River

Nice and neat but the service of staff is very slow and the activity for the kids is lacking. As water activities were stopped due to flooding conditions, more activities could have been organized. Unfortunately, with loadshedding only part of the resort was serviced with a generator which was disappointing. Owners visible but they concentrate on the regulars, and I feel as first timers there they could have made an effort to ensure we return and become regulars.
