Thank you for the best time we enjoyed at your Apartments. The thing that shone out for us and made it such a good experience was the owner, management and staff. No matter what position they held they were happy, attentive, accommodating and helpful. Nothing was a bother and they tried to make us welcome and comfortable. This created such a great atmosphere throughout our stay. The rooms are more than adequate with everything available that one would need. They went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable.

Amazing experience

Excellent place! Very clean and comfortable with an excellent breakfast buffet. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel owner is on site and always greeats his guests. They are also very accommodating. I absolutely loved staying here

Excellent

We spent a week at the Nicol hotel and apartments in a hotel room. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Their rooms clean, comfortable and practical. Their price included breakfast and if you didn’t have time to sit and eat you could take it away. Will definitely stay here again.

Lovely stay

Although I asked for a wheelchair accessible room ,the wheelchair could not fit through the area between the bed and bar fridge to get to the bathroom.  Only penthouse can accommodate a wheelchair.  Beds are to low,can not get back o to the chair

Most terrible stay ever. Would not wish my worst enermy to stay here. Absolutely in tolerable, noise of the highway, noise of the neighbour's,  staff are not interested.  I left the hotel before my duration of stay at 10h00 in the evening as I could not bear the noise any longer. What a waste!

Nichol hotel

My mother and I had a lovely stay at the hotel, she had stayed here before with the rest of my family and came back as they thoroughly enjoyed their stay. We booked a single room and it was exactly what we needed, although the cleanliness was somewhat questionable (mould in bathroom, dusty shelves). My uncle who lives close to Bedford View frequently stays here and enjoys it every time. Load shedding is a pain but that is just South Africa right now and the hotel can absolutely not be blamed, they have a generator in main areas, Wi-Fi (which was strong and reliable) stays on even in the rooms, and the staff did their best at putting the load shedding times up on the walls and in the lifts. The Nicol is in a very convenient area, super close to Bedford Center, Eastgate, many great restaurants, and convenient for the airport. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and breakfast did not disappoint. I strongly recommend staying at The Nicol if you’re spending time in Bedford View.

Overall great hotel - would recommend

I stayed at the hotel through an independent booking (Airbnb). On my first morning there loadshedding happened and I went to the restaurant to get online as I was there to work and had urgent meetings. I ordered a (paid) breakfast and asked the reception for the wifi password. The moment I said that I was not a hotel room guest, it was as if the room went cold. She absolutely refused to give me the wifi password. I appealed to the manager, who told me this facility is for guests. Wasn't I a guest of the restaurant? I asked the manager could he not just help me out, I have a meeting, I'll buy breakfast, I have an urgent meeting... he told me they don't run a charity or other people's businesses. I must take it up with my host. He was so condescending that I was utterly, totally shocked and it really made me mad. Is this what the hospitality industry has come to? It escalated to the point where the manager and his receptionist yelled at me Go! Get in the lift and leave!  
Granted, I was not a hotel room guest, but I paid for my room at the hotel and the facilities are there for who ever stays in the hotel, and granted, I called him a bad word at the end which I'm not sorry for (he then proceeded to call me the female version of this word loudly for all his guests to hear). It was very obvious to me that there is bad blood between the hotel and the independent rooms. I went in polite, I ordered breakfast, I kindly asked for the wifi password, but the response was incredibly hostile, and no manager should let things escalate the way they did. 
The message was - there is no warm, kind, hospitable human here - if you pay for a hotel room we will pretend to be sure, but if you are an Airbnb guest don't expect us to even pretend.

Worst experience imaginable

Please be aware when booking online that you will book at the Nicol Hotel which are rooms owned by private individuals at the actual hotel. You will get a grimey room with no hotel service. As another reviewer said, this place is grime kingdom.

Independent private rooms booking under same name as Nicol Hotel

Fabulous friendly service as always, nothing is too much trouble for the team at The Nicol. 

Definitely my go to hotel when in the area. 

Breakfast is delicious and always plenty to eat. 

The setting and location make it convenient to get to and all around Jozi.

Another brilliant stay

We stayed at The Nicol hotel as my son was a swimming a gala near by. We booked a 2 bedroom apartment which was ideal for our needs! The room was clean and very spacious, and it was very convenient to have the lounge and kitchen area. The hotel has a nice atmosphere and having permanent residents living adds to the homely feel. The breakfast were good and the gym is really well equipped. I think what really sets this hotel apart is the staff that work here. Everyone we dealt with (Michelle, Nthando, Randy to name a few) couldn’t do enough to make sure we had a good stay. We will definitely be back!
