We were gifted 3 nights in this stunning guest house by our daughter for our 37th wedding anniversary weekend. We were welcomed warmly by Adriaan on arrival and nothing was too much trouble for him and his wife to make sure we had the best weekend possible. The view from our room as well as from the lounges is amazing. The upstairs area gives a particularly stunning view of the coast. We were able to walk out of our room, across the lawn and onto the boardwalk in a matter of 2 minutes. It is also close to all the places that are worth a visit in the area. A 5 minute drive from the Hemel and Aarde wine route and plenty of excellent restaurants. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean with quality bed linen and towels. Breakfast is laid on for all tastes, hot and cold as well as a vegetarian option. We'd love to go back when the weather is a little warmer. Thank you to our hosts for a wonderful weekend!

NEVER AGAIN

As travellers with a love for exploration, we decided to pop over for a drink and were welcomed with the genuine warmth of South African hospitality. From the moment we walked in, we felt right at home. What was intended as a brief visit turned into a delightful, impromptu evening of socialising with the owners and fellow guests.

The establishment is under new management, with improvements already underway, yet still maintaining its old-world charm. This grand dame, with her spectacular views stretching across the sea, is a true gem. I’m eager to see how this space will continue to evolve—we’ll definitely be visiting again soon to experience more of the hospitality and soak up some glorious sunsets.

Hospitality and Views: A Timeless Retreat

We stayed at the hotel in May 2024 for 4 days. 
On the day we arrived we were greeted by owner Adrian very friendly.  We felt genuinely welcomed. 
The hotel is located at the ocean coast and a view from the hotel over the ocean is truly beautiful. There is a cozy living room where you can sit and watch the ocean. 
On the third morning a small miracle happened to us. The host graciously offered to change our ordinary room, which we also liked, to a larger room with an ocean view, completely free of charge. We were very happy about that. The next 2 nights we could hear the waves crashing through our sleep. We will remember that with warmth for a long time to come. The staff was friendly and accomodated us in everything. The breakfasts were delicious.
I would like to note the perfect cleanliness of bed linen and towels. It was very pleasant. 
There is a three-kilometer path along the coast near the hotel. We've walked this path many times in the mornings and evenings, making another (already five hundredth probably), video of “the most beautiful wave”. 
Not far away there is a large mall where you can buy everything you need on vacation.
We would love to come back and spend more time at this hotel.

Value for money

I can highly recommend Sandbaai Country House for a tranquil experience, with a view of the ocean and mountain (depending on the room), friendly atmosphere, delicious breakfast, spacious rooms with en-suite bathrooms and the best duvets. The ground rooms are accessible to wheelchairs. Safe parking and two steps off the ocean walk-way. Wi-Fi accessible in the main house. Kettle, tea and coffee included in the rooms. 

Revitalising recharging and re-connecting

Had such a lovely time at the Sandbaai Country House! The owners (the Pienaars) were absolutely lovely and made sure we had everything we needed. Our room had a stunning view and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. Some reviews say the wifi is spotty but we had no issues at all. Also situated close enough to all the restaurants, just a 10 minute drive away. Will definitely be back!

A lovely stay at Sandbaai Country House

What a disappointment. So many great hosts and accommodation in the area and we pick this lame duck. If you want an uncomfortable nights stay, on a mattress like a hammock, with hosts that believe a bucket of pool water adequately compensates for no running water then this is the dream location for you but Not for us.

When a romantic weekend away turns into a nightmare. Cold as ice welcome, no running water with a small bucket to fill from the pool, no heating, uncomfortable old beds, tasteless breakfast. 
Hosts who have no integrity.

Charming Stay if you enjoy cold dishonest hosts

Never felt so unwelcome at a guest house ever before. Very poor conditions in the room that was actually in the parking lot. Expectations were not met, no fridge in the room, no Wifi in the room (indicated as available when booking but now removed) 15 sugar sachets on the coffee tray and 1 tea bag, no coffee or milk. No glasses provided to drink from, the ones in the bathroom were not clean. Bed very worn and felt like lying in a hammock, didn't sleep at all. Dirty towels and worn, lots of mould on the inside of the bathroom door, blinds could not be opened as the ropes were broken, no outside seating provided at all, we had to bring the chairs from the room outside. No pool towels provided, no cushions on the 2 loungers around the pool. Rusted and very dirty fan, could not be used in this condition. Instead of a nice 2 days break we checked out after 1 night, tired and frustrated!
