Once I found the guesthouse (a long story and my own fault for not making sure of the address) I was welcomed with enthusiasm and forgiveness since I was actually supposed to let them know my ETA. Parking behind a security gate and under an awning is a plus - also close to the front door so you don't have to carry bags for miles - always a consideration once it starts raining. The house is close to the university and the biggest hospital, but fairly far away from restaurants - not within walking distance, so be prepared. My room had a small fridge, the usual coffee & tea, and a generous helping of sherry which really calmed the weary traveler. Underfloor heating was on, but the summer cotton linen on the bed was quite cold. Fortunately there were ample blankets! The room opened on the garden, which would be great in summer. Breakfast in the dining room around a family table initially felt too homely, but the hosts were very discreet in not hovering around us - a personal bugbear! A thoroughly recommended stay.

We came here for a stop over for just one night. This guest house feel us like we are at home, with nice and clean rooms, and a very good breakfast. Leona help us to find a good restaurant for the evening and serve us not only breakfast but also a good talk in the morning about african culture.

Nice stop over in bloemfontein

I have been the Bloemfontein several times now and I am still looking for that one guest house that provides accommodations without problems.  White Rose is not that place but it comes close.

The rooms are adequate but small.  The bathroom is ridiculously tiny.  When we arrives no one was on duty to even let us in.  The maid seems to know nothing about services and could not answer many of our questions.

But once we met the owners, things improved.  They were very accommodating and friendly.  Meals were good and adequate.  Internet was a problem - but it is ALWAYS a problem in South Africa, and they did an amazing job of helping us out with this.

It seems as though every guest house in South Africa is an after-thought.  Electrical plugs in rooms are generally pipes down the outside of the walls and never actually available for guests.  Door locks are skeleton keys (not in use for about 50 years in America).  Gate security is essential and makes initial entry difficult.  And most of the time, it's just someone's house with additions.  Oh well.  I'll keep looking.

Still Looking

Stayed here 1 night with friends. Although a bit pricey, the service and sleep quality was very good. The breakfast the following morning was also very good, highly recommended. Will return to this one!!!

Nice stopover

Still lingers long after the visit.  Nothing less will do for me, but the choice is yours. Leona's hospitality and accommodation rivals the best! Exclusive and very personal. Fabulous and immaculate. This is where I will always stay when I visit Bloemfontein.
