A hidden gem on route 62. Tranquil, serene, a lovely pool, great location, safe parking. Daniel gave excellent service. Superb breakfast. Thank you so much for receiving Olive too! Ideal for a night or two to explore Calitzdorp.


Divine @ Die Dorpshuis

Overall, loved my stay but definitely wouldn't book that specific room again due to the exhaust fumes.
 
Liked · Breakfast was excellent and the host was lovely, friendly and genuinely concerned and caring in trying to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Location is excellent and parking provided was safe and convenient. Room was spotless and as it was bitterly cold, the room came equipped with electric blankets, as well as extra blankets.

Disliked · We were placed in a room directly above where the generator is housed (used during loadshedding) and whilst we were warned about the noise, the fumes from the generator came straight into our room to the point where we both got headaches. We felt nauseous and unwell. Would recommend that the owner either direct the exhaust away from the room or not have guests in that room during loadshedding times.

However, I will definitely be visiting again in future trips down to Cape Town and look forward to my next stay. 



Great Stay

I have often stayed at your B&B. In the past your restaurant was very good. About 4 months ago we stayed somewhere else but had a meal at the Dorpshuis again. I had Mutton curry. You were very frugal with the quantity of meat in the dish, and the quality was quite the lowest I have ever encountered anywhere. I am not a fussy eater, and this is my first negative review ever. I am planning to overnight in Calitzdorp again and this brought to mind my past experience. Thought I would inform you not to expect me again, ever. Too many other food-honest establishments for me to visit.

Gustav Barnard. Good way to lose customers.

Passing through on our way back to PE and we had booked to stay at Die Dorpshuis. Good decision. Room was nicely appointed and had everything you needed. We were there in winter so the electric blanket on the bed was gratefully appreciated. Upon arrival we were met by Owner Daniel and a most genial host he was. We thoroughly
enjoyed our stay and recommend if passing through Calitzdorp and need accommodation then Die Dorpshuis is where you should stay.
We did not stay for breakfast but am sure it would be excellent.

GREAT OVERNIGHT STAY

We were a group of four having a booking this weekend at De Dorpshuis.  We checked in and checked right out.  The rooms are so tiny that they have to take a chair out and put it on the patio so you can get in. The pool is about 10% full and lime green    I believe the food is excellent but we didn’t stay to find out.  Oh, and there is a clock that chimes every 15 minutes   There are way better overnite stay options but may be the best restaurant in town

Poor accommodations, good restaurant

We decided on Die Dorpshuis for lunch after visiting the Succulent Festival in town.  I had a lovely chicken pie and salad which was delicious and the pastry was lovely and light and nothing too fatty.  I was pleased to learn from the owner that the chicken they use comes from the local butchery which is free-range.  When he mentioned that I then knew quality is important  in their quaint restaurant/guesthouse.  My husband had the lamb curry.  This was also delicious.  Friendly owner that still does the trouble to come to your table to hear if you are happy with everything.  I also appreciated the cloth napkins.

True country hospitality.

We stayed in the newly renovated Annex to Die Dorpshuis. With modern amenities in the calm of the platteland we had the best of both worlds. The location suited us perfectly as we were off the main road but within walking distance to all the events we wanted to visit during the annual Winter Festival. The breakfast was more than enough and the owners very friendly. Will DEFINITELY go back!

Winter Festival Stay

We had such a pleasant stay at this guesthouse! The owners have only been there for 8 months but it is clear that they are trying to turn it into something special. The rooms are clean and well equipped.  I would definitely recommend staying There! We were also surprised at how delicious our breakfast was....especially my very light and fluffy omelette!!!

Lovely owners!

We stopped for a late breakfast. The new french owners were very welcoming. We both had the reakfast platter (English Breakfast) which at R48 we thought was excellant value for money.We liked the genuine cloth napkins and the warm fire buring in the hearth.
