Liked: The manager's attentiveness, and it was very clean, other than the rat...

Disliked : A rat ran across me in the middle of the night.

The room was very hot (It is mid summer.) I asked the manager to bring a fan, which he did, but all he had was an industrial fan which was very loud - not something one could sleep with while running, and I feared it would bother other guests too, since I could hear it down the hall. I opened the window to allow cooler air in. The window was next to an ally. During the night, a rat came in from the ally and ran across me. I had to spend time helping it out the room again. There were also mosquitos.
The water from the tap tasted terrible, but no other water was provided.
The dive school next door has a loud machine running during business hours. I would not advise anyone plan to relax or sleep in their room during the day.

I would suggest the following to improve the quality of this inn:
A metal mosquito screen on the window.
A quiet fan for hot nights.
Bottled water available free with the room, or at least to purchase.
Some measure to muffle the dive school machine noise.
Clearer descriptions to guests of what is included and what one needs to bring, or make other arrangements for.

I would not recommend it as it currently is

An unexpected surprise in the heart of Simonstown. Needed to stay overnight and found Blue Line Inn. Dean was very welcoming, even though I only arrived after 6pm. Rooms and hotel are simply but tastefully furnished. I stayed in the Deluxe Double room and it was all I needed: A comfy bed and hot shower. The only real nitpick was they only had coffee making facilities and no tea, but the owner has promised to rectify this.  Rate for the night was very reasonable. Old building has been wonderfully maintained. If you ring the gate and no answer, just go to the chicken takeaway next door and they will sort you out. 


A good budget option in Simonstown.

I stayed five nights here and it's really a great budget option. Good place, well kept, very nice staff, the bed was comfortable and the room relatively spacious. Very good location too, at the start of the town centre, still easy to park, walking distance to the penguins and dive shop, also a good base to explore nearby cape of good hope or noordhoek beach. Very good value.

Excellent place to stay in Simon's Town

Decided to book a last minute night in Simon's town to go on the Ghost tour of Simon's town. Becuase we booked through a third party website the deluxe suites had been booked before our booking was recieved by the backpackers. We only discovered this once we arrived. The receptionist was very apologetic and showed us a double room next the shared bathrooms. While not ideal we decided to stay. For a backpackers it was clean and comfortable and we really only a needed a bed and hot shower for the night. It met our needs for the most part. Luxury it is not but  clean and comfortable with friendly staff it was. The only one downside is that it's an old building with wooden floors so at 3am when people move around it feels like they are in your room(ignoring  the fact the building was built in 1802 and could have a friendly spirit or 2) which is also not ideal and I suppose because we had the room next to the shared ammenities unavoidable. All in all not bad  despite a slightly disrupted nights sleep. 

Clean and comfortable 

My partner and I stayed here while in the area to explore Boulder's Beach and climbing Table Mountain and it was safe to keep our belongings in and also quiet at night so we were able to get a good rest. 
Shared kitchen facilities, toilets and showers. Only suggestions would be to make bunk ladders more secure (fixed to the beds rather than hanging off of a hook over the top bunk) and fixing the windows as the screws to lock it open at a certain distance are a bit loose

Safe and quiet place to stay

We stayed 3 days in the room for two with our own bathroom

Room was big and clean. Nice bathroom with shower.

They are very friendly and the balcony gives a nice view on the bay to chill and enjoy sunset.

The lady of the hostel, Memory offered to cook traditional Pap for us when we asked where we could try some local food. She taught us how to make it in the kitchen which is very well equipped.

This was a wonderful stay, like going to your family for the holidays. 

Very friendly, 

I stayed with the backpackers for 3 days during my dive course in Simons Town. I was surprised when i saw my room. Not only it is far from what a hostel look like, I had my own double bed and a wardrobe. My room is nicely decorated and bed is very comfortable. The bathroom is always clean which I really appreciated. The staff there Olivia and Memory are the friendliest I have met in cape town. They are helpful and kind. Since i was traveling by myself and they always try to make sure I have someone to hang out with and keep me company when I come back from diving. I feel like coming home every evening when i see them.
Will definitely come back and stay with them on my next visit.
