R1250 for the night! Not worth more than R400. The bedroom door couldn't lock from the inside.  Shower door difficult to close. No complimentary water in the room- had to be purchased. No glasses in the room. Room dated, floor dirty.
Boboti very tasty. Fish not fresh.
Smoke smell from the pub was nauseating.
Poor breakfast. Two strips of overcooked streaky bacon, sausage unpalatable.  Then opened a jam tub to find the contents to be discoloured. Looked under the tub. It had expired in June 2020!!! Then checked ALL jam tubs at all the tables.All had expired around that time. When questioning the manager about this, she merely said: 'oh I don't look underneath things'. Really? Is there no one in charge of Food Hygiene and Safety? Clearly not. Won't go back

R1250 for poor quality services

I was booked to stay at Somerset Lodge for 7 nights. I realised upon my arrival it was not what I expected, and the "welcoming" smell of cigarette smoke from the pub next to the entrance was quite unpleasant for a non-smoker. The room was small and cramped. There are no burglar bars on the windows and the garden outside was unattractive and needed some serious attention. Also, some 10 or so cats were lounging around outside, but I couldn't tell whether they belonged there or not. In the evening, my room smelled of cigarette smoke, which came from the pub down the hall. I complained via my travel agent, but excuses were made by the establishment rather than trying to remedy the situation. A partial refund was refused and I was eventually (after three nights) moved to another room away from the pub. As a solo female traveler, I really felt uncomfortable staying there, especially since all the pub patrons could see you coming or going. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone, especially if you don't like the smell of cigarette smoke. And especially not for the price of R950.00 per night. I recently stayed at another establishment in Somerset West for less and it deserved a five-star rating compared to the Somerset Lodge.

Unpleasant experience

Rooms are ok. Decor mix and match. Restaurant area and breakfast good. Courtyard area dusty. Reception friendly and pleasant. Wi fi weak to none existent in rooms. Seriously limited DSTV channels. Characterful pub.

3 night stay for business

I work in Mozambique and I always come to Somerset Lodge when I'm back in South Africa. I have recommended Somerset Lodge to family and friends who also visited recently and enjoyed their stay . The staff are always friendly and welcoming !

Pretty good place

I travel alot and stay in different guesthouses and hotels all over SA. I always come back to Somerset Lodge when I am in the Western Cape. It is just what I need after work when I am tired - my room, which is always a pleasure to stay in the restaurant where I have Molly's spectacular curry and then a nice cold beer in the bar. When I check in I know I can put the car keys away and not worry about driving until the next day.


Somerset Lodge is a fantastic guesthouse

Newly renovated lodge, clean crisp sheets and bedding, beautiful bathrooms. I've visited Somerset Lodge a couple times and it just gets better and better! Love what they've done to the place. My hubby and I love the meals and kids get along with the free WIFI. Highly recommend this Lodge if you want class at a good price.
