We loved our stay at Kleinfontein. Our hosts went out of their way to assist us and make us feel welcome. We stayed in the double cabin which had everything we needed including an indoor fire and outdoor braai pit. Would recommend for couples!

Very comfortable stay

Nico was extremely helpful when we arrived.  The place is clean, well equipped and the setting stunning.  Money well spent would love to visit again

Best tent sleep over ever

Our rustic hut had everything we needed. The barbecue setting close to a massive rock setting was amazing, no light pollution so the stars were extra bright ! The next morning we had a stunning easy walk amongst the spectacular rock formations as the sunrise presented wonderful photo opportunities. Needs another visit to explore more !

Mountain hut wonder

We were 2 couples in part of a building near the family home. The furniture was described as "family heirlooms", and so it was - 1930s to 1950s and uncomfortable. The lights were too low voltage, and kitchen and dining equipment was spartan to put it mildly, and not really fit for purpose. The wifi worked - hooray! The braai area outside looked superb, built into a rock face. And we went for a wonderful walk through the farm and up - this was a major redeeming feature, and we wanted to walk further but ran out of time. I think our lovely hosts need to make an investment into their building accommodation which was disappointing, as otherwise the setting is superb.

Lovely hosts, but....

We decided to stay 2 nights in the Cederberg on route back to Jhb. We absolutely loved our luxury tent house which had everything we needed with the most spectacular view of the enchanting red rocks. It was peaceful and our host Nico was friendly helpful and he gave us suggestions of what to do with our one day in the Cederberg. It is scorching hot but we could cool down at Travellers and Rugged Rocks Winery. Fabulous friendly people all round. Would love to go back.

Cederburg Treasure

The small fountain stop was one of our highlights on our trip from Windhoek to Cape Town. Unfortunately, we only booked for one night, which we quickly regretted. We would have liked to have enjoyed this idyll a little longer in our own tent. I was particularly impressed by the attention to detail with which this tent was set up and made. The hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. Notes: - book the tent absolutely - don't forget to shop for food (breakfast to dinner) at Clanwilliam in Spar. There is no restaurant nearby or in the accommodation, self catering!

The only negatives are the small dirt recycle bins and if you need a place to chill the whole day maybe not the best choice. You need the checkout very early,however they will accommodate you if they dont have another booking. 

Otherwise very nice place to stay. 



Kleinfontein - 3 person glam tent

After a week of searching this was actually the first place we found some namaqualand daisies.  The accommodation is quaint,  The burglar bars are to stop the baboons, and the warning to close all windows and doors is to prevent the birds getting in and causing havoc.  The farm itself has some lovely walks, and nearby is Travellers Rest which has many rock paintings on a 2 hour hike.  Our hosts Nick and Marietjie were fantastic.  Take all your food etc - no shops here for a good 30 kms, although Travellers has a restaurant.

Lovely spot in the Cederberg

This is a lovely farm about 20 minutes from Clanwilliam.  They have some amazing rock climbing spots to enjoy.  The silence at night is amazing.  They have a very nice braai area that we loved.  The self-catering accommodation was very nice and clean, but basic.  The town is not close, so make sure that you take everything you might need food wise with you.

Close to Nature

Kleinfontein is a duplex farmhouse in a small canyon where the Cederberg Mountains meet the Karoo. It's about 20 minutes east of the town of Clanwilliam, through an easy and picturesque mountain pass. Stock up on groceries before you head over. We saw no stores on this side of the mountains, and very little mobile phone coverage.

The owners, Nico and Marietjie, live in a newly-built home next door. They are very friendly and helpful. Other than them you're pretty much out in nature. There's a resident leopard in the area (almost never seen because they avoid people, but it leaves tracks in the dirt road) and a big braai area is set into a rock overhang behind the house. At night the skies are some of the darkest I've ever seen. You don't just see the Milky Way, you see dark clouds and rivers of stars in it.

Our unit (called Witkaree) was rustic but very clean and comfortable, and had most of the comforts of home, including kitchen with two burner stove, hot and cold water, electricity, refrigerator, and WiFi.

Pluses:
-A great base for exploring the Cederberg mountains.
-You're in a beautiful setting and feel like you're out in the wilderness, but you get to sleep in a very comfortable place.
-Entertaining weaverbirds right outside your window.
-Friendly hosts.

Minuses:
-No television.
-No oven in the kitchen.
-The radiant heaters in the bedrooms don't heat the rooms all that much. But that seems to be normal for South Africa, and the bedding is very warm.
