This is an ideal place to stop over on trips to and from Johannesburg, cape Town, Port Elizabeth or Mossel Bay. 
At the time of our stay, a wing of the house was being restored after a bad fire. 
The guest house has a French provencale vibe, and is very restful. The perimeter walls have been extended in height, making the garden even more private and restful. Rooms have high ceilings, and the ceilings have been fitted with ISO insulation, providing welcome cool in the intense Karoo heat. 
The TV service is fine. There is no wifi that I am aware of. Secure parking in the premises is welcome - some guest houses in the vicinity do not offer this. 
On the negative side, towels (although large and fluffy) had a very musty and strange smell. The shower is beautiful, but unfortunately not correctly drained and water runs badly into the room. Sound seems to travel between rooms quite badly, and we could clearly hear our neighbor speaking on the phone. This is a great pity, as tis compromises the pallidness and calm of the place. 
There are 2 or 2 very good local restaurants a short Lansing distance away.. Complimentary filter coffee and rusks is a welcome treat, especially when leaving early in the morning. 
Overall, a great stay and I'll definitely return.

Great stopover

We needed a place to stay overnight in Colesberg which allows dogs and came across La Provence B&B. They are busy re-modelling so we stayed in their “Chalet” which is basically a house with a small garden. The Chalet was nice and clean and perfect for an overnight stay, even longer if needed. Close to restaurants in the area. The lady in charge was very friendly.

We overnighted in one of the outside rooms. Location was very good as we then took a walk down to the restaurants and had dinner before moseying back up. There had been a fire in the main house so that was under renovation which was a pity as I would have loved to see the inside. Looks like it was a beautiful old house. Room was very comfortable and we enjoyed the stay.

Good value for money

We stayed at the two bedroom self catering house across the road. Very good service. The house is old but very clean and well maintained, they supply tea, coffee and real milk. The house had DSTV and is about 200m from the main restaurants. 

Passing through 

We stayed at La Provence on our return trip to Cape Town from Nelspruit. As a family of four with a 5 and a 6 yr old we booked the family Bungalow for R 810 the night. The bungalow is spacious with a large kitchen, sitting room and two bedrooms and a bathroom that looked recently renovated with a nice shower. The bedding and linen were top quality, same as the towels and the beds had electric blankets - great in those cold winter nights. 
Proper hot water in the bathroom that doesn't take ages to run. Secure parking in lockup under cover parking. It's easily accessible. It's close to the historic centre of Colesberg and still close to the N1 without the noise of trucks passing by. We have stayed at a typical road lodge in Colesburg before which was insignificantly cheaper though with a lot less comfort. We strongly recommend Colesberg as a stopover spot and La Provence as a B&B and will be back on our next trip.
