We rented the cottage The Vineyard, which has a small pool and is comfortably furnished in French style. The equipment leaves no wishes open. More information on our photo travel website wehr-reinhold.com. The cottages are located in the middle of a vineyard. The owner is super friendly and likes to give good tips on Franschoek.

Idyllic and comfortable cottages in the middle of a vineyard

This was our second stay in rose Cottage, last time (Some years ago) we stayerd in what they call the stables which is now a private Cottage. Under the same roof is the Cottage. As the stables were empty we had the terrace with the great views for ourselves, idem dito for the pool. The pool is small, just for dipping and was not sparkling, but the temperaturen and drought are probably part of the reasons. The views however are magnificent.
The Cottage itself is large with big bedroog and bathroom, separate living room and kitchen. I would have liked aircon as it was very hot in Franschhoek. There is a fan in the bedroom.
If you visit with more than 2 persons there are two separate cottages catering for four persons with a private plunge pool.
Close to the restaurants of Franschhoek, by car.


Views to die for

We stayed at The Vineyard cottage for just one night, and we wished we had more time there. A very well thought out space, so comfortable and tasteful. Beautifully secluded with incredible views of the mountains and the neighbouring stables. The wrap around balcony that allows you to follow the sun or the shade throughout the day. The cottages is kitted out with everything you'd need. Fabulous value for money and Joan is so charming and helpful. We were a party of 4 people, 2 from Cape Town and 2 from overseas and Rose Cottages was perfect for us all. Thank you and we'll certainly be back!

Everything we needed and more

...because it means I have had to leave this little patch of paradise and am back in the city.  The winter school holidays have just ended and the family decided to spend the last weekend out of town.  My eldest suggested Franschoek which is an easy hour and a half drive from our house.  I looked online and found this establishment which ticked all the right boxes.  Free wifi (shame on me but with two daughters aged 16 and 20 it is a necessity I tell you), sleeps 5 (which is harder to find that you would imagine, most places cater for 2 or 4), 4 star and a little out of town on a farm.  All good then.  The photos on the website looked excellent, and to be fair, the house was better in the flesh.  We stayed in "The Vineyard" which is privately situated, amongst the vines, which begin about 10 metres from your front door, with the mountains rising up before you casting shadows and enticing you with their changing colours as the sun traverses across the sky.  It was idyllic.  Modern and luxurious, the house was tastefully decorated, with everything one would need and expect of a 4 star establishment.  I could quite happily swap my home for this one any day.  I really enjoyed the daily servicing, even cleaning out the fireplace making it ready for the next night.  Franschoek gets "bitterly cold in the winter", to use Joan's words (Joan meets you and gives you the run down of how things work on their farm), and this bitter cold is fought on many fronts in The Vineyard.  Electric oil heaters throughout the house, underfloor heating in the bedrooms and a wonderful fireplace in the lounge make this house cozy and warm all night long.  Another thing that I really enjoyed about the location of the house is that it is just out of town.  Close enough to be no problem to pop into town, but far enough away to give you that rural farm feeling.  This is one place I want to return to.  It is great for a weekend getaway, but must be even better for a few days longer.

Why I hate Mondays...

In the middle of your own vineyard with only three cottages, a recommendation for anyone who wants to wander two kilometers from the village.

Rose Cottage is actually not a cottage but a wing of the main house. However it has a completely seperate existence. The views are to die for and the rooms are very large and airy. The owner was helpful when needed but unobtrusive when not. The rooms are serviced daily and the staff very friendly and obliging. Less than 5 minute drive into town (Franshoek), or about 1/2 hour walk. Lots of places to eat, from small cafes to lovely vinyards. WiFi inconsistent, not good enough for Skype but could get e-mails at odd times through the day. Thanks for a good 7 days.

Ideal self catering in a great location

We stayed at The Stables for 3 nights. We had our own car and found it a perfect getaway. Only minutes from the town centre in a secluded area well away from the main road. The cottage was very quaint, clean and serviced daily. Beds very comfortable. The plunge pool was too cold, even in November. Wifi available free but a bit intermittent.

Very peaceful

A wonderful house in the vineyards: 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a large living room with a fully equipped kitchen. A real haven of peace, quiet, magnificent view, great comfort, beautiful decoration and a very pleasant swimming pool.

Rose Cottages is an oasis of tranquility not far from the tourist Franschhoek. Tasteful interior to the dishes and bedding, a kitchen that leaves no wishes open, fireplace, grill, pool, etc. A place for readers, poets, painters, thinkers, those in need of tranquility. The hostess is charming and willing to help us fulfill every wish.
