Hi Stayed here in Feb 2018.

i regularly  travel to Joburg for Work.

One.. The landline doesnt work. There is a lack of signage to the guest house.

When i arrived for checked in, i was escorted through a Washing line and the Kitchen to the lounge in the main house.

I enquired about the Landline. Needless to say i was told the line is down, meaning no Wifi.

When i arrived in the Room i was politely greeted by SPIDERS and CRICKETS in the the bathroom.

Small ANTS kept me company  on the Dirty and Dated Sheets.

You can't see the TV, So be prepared to stare at the ceiling.

There is Complimentary  Coffee in the Room, Without a Kettle.

The Second day upon arrival, the electric gate didnt work.

My room wasn't cleaned and serviced after the first night.  

It's a good location, but i didn't feel safe.

DISGUSTING AND misrepresented! AVOID #GOLDENGATEGUESTHOUSE

On arrival I could not enter I stood outside 20 minutes trying to gain access. Then I was given a set of keys and I hadn’t seen the staff for the remaining three days that I was there not one staff member nor receptionist There are cockroaches, Other weird bugs I was given half a roll of toilet paper for three days I was given dirty towels which hadn’t been changed for the whole stay the bedding is dirty old raggedy and dilapidated the paintworkIs bubbling and walls are cracked there are no lightbulbs in the bathroom and the bath leaks out water before you can rinse off the couch is falling apart and the chair is completely broken

Disgusting shocking filthy!!! Misrepresented

Overall bad service.  No formal welcome at the gate.  We were given two sets of keys, both could not open the automatic gate once pressed.  They did not have enough spares, so my colleague and I had to share a set, even though we were supposed to be in two different rooms.  First and only night at the BnB, I killed about 10 cockroaches.  The wooden floor of the Wendy house was extremely damaged and had a drain directly underneath.  Slept in a drain smell room.  They give WiFi, but it's impossible to get a good signal in the rooms.  The bed wasn't even made properly, and I had a very dirty towel.  Skipped breakfast and cancelled our stay the next morning at that place.  Horrible, to say the least.

What an experience, and not in the way you'd expect.

We booked accommodation at The Golden Gate Guesthouse for two of our employees on the 22nd of February, checking out on the 24th.

We've never before used The Golden Gate Guesthouse, and booked their accommodation purely based on the Trip Advisor rating and the most recent visitor reviews. 
In short, I will be sure to read the reviews more carefully in future when booking accommodation for our employees, as they were absolutely appalled at the condition of their rooms. 

One of our employees informed me that they were firstly given two rooms keys, which did not work. Then they were shown to two separate Wendy-houses over-whelmed with the stench of sewerage and infested with cock-roaches, due to the open drainage system running right underneath the units.

After a horrific night's sleep, they requested that their stay be cancelled rather than spending one more night. 

I struggled to get a hold of Roseline to cancel the booking and request a refund - after phoning more than 5 times, the phone was answered and I was promptly informed that we will not be receiving a refund for the remaining night's stay, as the guests' have signed a 'check-in' form where it is clearly stated that no refunds will be given in event of cancellation. 

I wholly understand the concept of this clause, but would expect that under the circumstances they would be more accommodating, and a bit more eager to uphold their user review ratings, but it seems like everything so far, this assumption was incorrect.

Wendy house/cockroaches and sewerage smell.

Enjoy staying here every time, especially the kind people working there. Have such good hearts. Roseline and her husband are very nice people and they always try to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Also centrally placed.
