OMW!!!! This was the best experience we ever had.. Hanna was sooo friendly and the guest house was perfect for our stay. The food was delicious and the restaurant staff at the guest house was super professional. The town stole our hearts, and we would definitely stay here again. We had some drinks at the town Hotel and the whole experience was something we'll remember for the rest of our lives.  The town people are friendly and very pleasant to be around with.

Hanover Boutique Guest House

Friendly staff, they were well prepared for our arrival and very professional.  Dinner was absolutely amazing. Beautiful areas outside to relax and escape the Karoo heat. I would love to stop and sleep over again.

Oasis in the Karoo

This is a great stop-over in Hanover and Hanna and her team were excellent hosts! Heads-up, check the bed size, it as on the ad and I missed it, we would have preferred a queen-size.
Overall a very pleasant experience, a fantastic dinner, we will definitely be back!!

Hanover On the Way Home

Great stop over site in Hanover, decor, food and atmosphere all work together to provide a comfy place to rest. Easily accessible from main N1. Worthwhile travelling the extra kilometers past Colesberg. 

Overnight in Hanover

We took a one-night stopover in this quaint small lodging in the middle of the Karoo on the main N1 route between Cape Town and Johannesburg. It was a sure pleasure - lovely room (room 5),  great public areas, notably the dining room area, with its atmospheric and slightly bohemian décor. The view to the famed and beautiful Hanover church across the road is stunning.  
The dinners are superb - prepared as Karoo-traditional as they come. Hanna is the ultimate hostess and offered super service, whilst all staff was very friendly.     

Stylish stopover in the Karoo

Neat accommodation and friendly staff. The aircon was great and a good night's rest was had! My only complaint was the lack of a shower, as there was only a bath. Will definitely stay here again on my way to Cape Town / Joburg!

Great  Halfway Stop

The guesthouse is well appointed but the service was not good. The manager tried I think but her and the waitresses were not trained properly. Early January so that may excuse the no stock of beer or cold drinks.  Load shedding didn’t help the situation. It was an over night stop so it was ok but the owner could do so much more with the place

We stayed one night on our way to the western cape. Our room was clean with tasteful finishes and the bedding top quality and comfortable. Next time we stay we will definitely order dinner as it looked really delicious, especially the lamb shank.

Quality stay

From the moment of arrival it was obvious that the manager, Hanna, who I'm sure is otherwise a very nice person, had no idea of what the word 'hospitality' means. She is more like a matron of an institution and should definitely not be front of house in this industry.
On arrival on a hot and dusty January afternoon after a 7 hour trip from Johannesburg, I spent the first 10 minutes trying to get in through the front door, and, when I did, she spent the next 10 trying to identify me by name and checking through her telephone list for a call that was never received by me that morning. I felt that I was imposing on her, and that she was doing me the great favour of permitting me to stay.
Room 7, to which I was shown, is quite small and pretty, but I soon realised that it is just an overpriced, shabby chic rip-off at R1 350, single, room only. Slippery Mr Price Home rugs, the toilet seat did not stay up on its own, the sink was badly stained, and there was no box of tissues. No armchair or other comfortable place to sit inside the air-conditioned 'comfort'.  No decent tea/coffee station: just the bare minimum.
Dinner was a plate of pre-ordered lambshank, dry and very fatty, no gravy to speak of, with three similarly textured and equally tasteless veggies for R220. And a flat GnT which I sent back. No offer of a starter, a desert or coffee.  A mean and paltry affair. I was practically ignored.
I left the next morning without breakfast and swore never to return.
Unfortunately, fate had decreed otherwise. I had stupidly left my tablet there, and so eventually managed to persuade Hanna, via her management in De Aar (this place is one of a few owned by a company called Sauer: beware of non-owner run guesthouses!), to permit me to return the next week to collect it. When she finally made an effort to locate it, I arranged a date and time, and arrived about 20 late, having driven 70 km out of my way. Now it again took 10 minutes for me to get in, having phoned Hanna as instructed from the door, and she having CUT OFF MY CALL TWICE.  Eventually she bestirred herself to get to the door and made as if to hand me the tablet through the window grill!  I asked her to open the door and she said that she was in a meeting with management and so couldn't answer my call. I asked her if I could use the toilet, and she stared me as if I had demanded that she resurrect a long-dead corpse. No, she said, the only toilets are in the rooms. I am sure that was an outright lie.  In any event, how can one treat a returning guest, who to your knowledge has driven so far out of his way, like this?  Could she not have offered me a glass of water, a cup of coffee? 
I have never seen anything like this. If the Hanover Boutique Hotel is the last guesthouse in the world, I would not return. I subsequently stayed in Willowmore, Jeffries Bay, Nieu-Bethesda and Bloemfontein on the same trip at much lesser prices with facilities and personalized service that were streets ahead of this place, all delightful places with human beings in charge of them. Avoid this place at all costs.

An absolute jewel to visit in the beautiful Karoo. The beautifully decorative rooms each have a unique design and creative theme. The service, food and friendly hospitality will give you a warm stray.
