Beautiful guesthouse, great location with a lot of potential. Unfortunately we could not use the shower due to pressure issues so we had no water. Luckily we could use the bath as a last resort. We did complain and said that it is unacceptable not to have a working shower in a
(fairly expensive) guesthouse. 
The rooms smell musty, and I also find it ridiculous that there are no charging points for electronics at bedside tables in this day and age  
The manager doesn’t really seem too bothered about the guests arrival times or answering phone calls.
I would not recommend this guest house to anyone until they make some serious changes and get their plumbing sorted out.

Stay away from Whale Away

Whale away was 3* accommodation with 1* service experience. Though the location good although it was on a main road not overlooking the whale watching coastal walk as it appears. The beds were comfy. 

However, our main reason for writing this review was the peculiar, robotic sounding manager who seems to loath guests staying at her guest house. Felt very spied upon and unwelcome. Could benefit from a lesson in hospitality as we felt everything we requested (hot water, access to the property, a response to phone calls on the way to the property) was our fault. Simple requirements for a guesthouse, no?

Waited outside for half an hour (phoning with no response and emailing) met with a cold welcome and being told we would be blocked if we spam call her again! No apology after waiting on the street, a prime target, who had to pay our taxi driver extra to stay with us for that time.

Noise travels very clearly at the Whale Away guest house. While we didn’t have breakfast (the kitchen was for staff use only despite not offering any kind of catering and dirty towels on the worktop upon arrival), the communal areas were paper thin and every conversation easily heard throughout the house. 

Keys were provided but we found our room disturbed when we returned from dinner. No mention or evidence of cleaning - bed unmade yet clearly personal possessions moved. Disturbing. As Jordan Peele said “Get Out”. Up your game, Whale Away.

Up your game?

We stayed here for two nights. The host was really friendly giving us a lot of information and ideas what to do. We booked the big room upstairs which is really awesome. You do have access to the balcony with a beautiful view. The only view negative points:
- Breakfast is provided in Running Rabbit. It is actually a great near-by Cafe. You have 4 options to choose and 2 beverages included, which is sufficient in my view. However I think it would be nice to have the option to have breakfast in the house as the balcony is so nice. (Guests are not allowed to use the kitchen).
-The water on the rooms costs extra. I think it should be included as in most other guesthouses and hotels.
These points are minor though. It is a great place close to good restaurants and the cliff path :)

Great view and location

We had the downstairs room with a sliding door that opens up to a lovely deck and the swimming pool and a beautiful sea view. Breakfast was a feast with super generous portions of fresh fruit salad, eggs and bacon.

The owner was extremely attentive to our every need

Good location but we were given a downstairs room that was quite grubby.....not the quality you expect.  Room was a bit shabby,  cupboard smelt of mould and damp was on walls.  Floors not cleaned well and drawers left with items from previous visitors. Breakfast could be excellent but one day seemed as though it was just heated up as we smelt it being cooked the previous afternoon and was quite soggy in the morning.  If the rooms were all the same standard as the communal areas it would be great.  

Ok but much better elsewhere

This is a lovely place, and we had upper room with a great view, there is a lovely lounge area too that you can sit and watch the southern right whales 🐳 breaching in the sea nearby. Great walks too across the road, the breakfast was excellent and the rooms are well appointed and kept spotless, plenty of parking and a warm welcome.

Fabulous Hotel perfect location

We had a lovely time at Whale Away Guest House. Upon arrival we were given a complimentary upgrade which was much appreciated!
Monika had great advice about walking to the cliff path to see some whales, and we did!
A delicious breakfast and comfy room made for a memorable stay.
The only concern was communication during the booking process - not great.
Otherwise, we have a fantastic stay!

Lovely Stay

Returned for a second stay.
We had a wonderful time and it was just what we needed.
The B&B is so conveniently located within a walk from our favorite restaurants and the beautiful cliff path. Monika is always so efficient and helpful. We will keep returning.
We love that breakfast is never too early and can have a decent rest on our much needed break. Can't wait to plan our next our next trip.
