Stayed here 4 years ago on our last visit to Hermanus and were delighted to return. A warm welcome from Rolf and a large comfortable room. The garden and pool area is an absolute picture, the hospitality is great and the breakfast is lovely. Hoping to be in Hermanus again next year and Hortensia Lodge will certainly be our number one choice.

Great place - easy short walk to town centre.

Rolf the owner is an absolute gem.
He is very knowledgeable of not just Hermanus, but the area as well. Best tour guide you'll ever need.
Lovely place, fantastic Breakfast, helpful in every sense of the word.

Holiday

Rolf was very helpful and gave us very good information about all the excursions and helped us with the booking.

Nice lodge with great rooms.

The location of the accommodation is very central, so many activities can be done on foot. The rooms are very comfortable. We have not missed anything in these 14 days at Rolf and his team. Breakfast is very rich and varied. Rolf is an excellent host who helps everyone with advice and action. His recommendations for various tours are real highlights. The whole team at Hortensia Lodge pays attention and affection to each guest. For us this holiday will be remembered forever.

Balm for the Soul

Rolf was the perfect host at this excellent Guest House.  Not only did we have an great room to stay in and an excellent breakfast but it was easy to integrate with other guests and get on with everyone we met. Rolf also provided great information about the locality, places to visit and ideas for things we wanted to do.

Wonderful stay at an excellent Guest House

Location = super garden = quiet and pleasant for the eye Breakfast = fresh and delicious room = loving host = again Hermanus is a place to stay and let the soul wander. There is a lot to discover and the diversity of plants is unique. Come back please....

Wonderful & relaxing

Every few years we try to get Hermanus back on our African trips, and we're at Rolf's for the eighth time. As always, there's nothing missing, and we also enjoy the other room to the garden (we've always had the left room to the garden). Unfortunately, since we can't see any more whales this time, as they've already moved on, Rolf booked us a boat ride where we've seen whales, sea lions, cormorans, sharks and dolphins. The location is excellent and since we were over on a Saturday, we can walk a little north to the Farmers Market there, which we liked very well. Also, the path along the Cliff Path to the center of town is always brilliant. Lie Rolf, we come back with safety.

We could live in Hermanus.

We had a great time with Rolf and his team! His accommodation provided everything we needed, our charming room was very large and spacious! In addition to the delicious breakfast, his B&B is simply in a perfect location, you can explore Hermanus on foot day and night, and the restaurants are both the cliffs nearby! We were provided with valuable tips and information so that we could enjoy the days very much! Unfortunately, I was so dumb as to leave my binoculars down. Rolf and his team took great pains to take care of it and sent it to my next accommodation! Thank you very much for that!

That's wonderful!

We needed an overnight stay on our way to Montagu. Being in Hermanus eight yeard ago we decided to visit the town again. As a TripAdvisor member I went on the website and when I saw the reviews namely excellent 19 and Very good 10 out of 29 reviews we immediately booked through Booking.com. I should have read the reviews on the other websites because we were dissapointed with this Guesthouse. Here is my opinion of the Good and the bad aspects. Upon arrival we saw that the parking space was on the outside which could accommodate only  3 small vehicles with no gate or security and that bothered us.  Rolf was very friendly on arrival ensuring us that our vehicle would be safe. He showed us our room and gave us a map informing us of all the sightseeing in the area. He ask if we would pay cash as he doesn't have any card facilities. I noticed that the room smelled if it was not used for quite some time but as it was after four in the afternoon already we wanted to see if we can spot the whales and left. Upon returning after seven we wanted to store our milk and water in the fridge but there wasn't a fridge.  Rolf didn't tell us about the communial fridge I read it on the internet before writing this review. We came back early wanting to watch the rugby but sadly there were only 4 Sabc channels on the old outdated TV. No microwave to warm our food. The coffee cups are so small they look like espresso cups.  The towels in the bathroom was a combination of old and new. The front door curtains could not close properly. A plus point is that the bed were comfortable with good pillows. There was a small 1 bar heater in the room and because it was a cold windy  night I had to use it to warm up the room instead of the warm water bag in the closet that Rolf suggested that afternoon. Surely being in an upmarket part of Hermanus the owner can make some serious upgrades to his Guesthouse so that it can match the reviews. As an TripAdvisor member I believe in giving an honest opinion to the public and we won't be staying here again. 

Dissapointed with Hortensia Guesthouse 

This was our first visit to Hortentia Lodge but it certainly will not be our last. Our room was delightful, light and airy, well equipped comfortable, what more can I say. The garden and pool are beautiful and peaceful. The owner Rolf is a delight. He is very helpful and efficient and good company. I loved him. We will be back definitely.
