Where to start? An amazing two part Safari starting with two days at Solio Rhino reserve, five star accommodation and service from Arva and her team,  John our guide a brilliant guy who’s endless knowledge of the reserve and animals in it allowed us to be part of his world without being intrusive. Smiling happy faces made us welcome the minute we arrived. We moved on to Ndoto offbeat safaris  in the Maasai Mara where our accommodation was to be a tent !! Not just any tent,  a little super king size divan bed, a flush toilet, shower, bathroom constant hot water and a lounge with  Wi-fi
On arrival we were met by Bob and his amazing team who once again offered five star service. Our guides for the four days were local Maasai tribesmen who spoke very good English,  again local knowledge and a passion for the preservation of the animals and land they are custodians of, gave us an intimate view of every breathtaking area they took us, an abundance of wildlife resulted in almost 2000 photos. This package was expertly put together by Jen from Offbeat Safaris, brilliant attention to detail from someone who is at one with what she is promoting and obviously as passionate as the Maasai she works with. In all we had ten days filled with amazing experiences, adrenaline rushes and emotional memories, would we recommend, in a heartbeat, we plan to return. Jim and Penny from Cornwall,

A trip of a lifetime

Booked for 3 nights, in the bush. Emailed about doing a horseback several times, no answer. When on arrival we politely enquired it was like if they were not interested. Strange, business, why not, and if not just say so, we're currently not operating, fine, so be it, but be open, lost a star right there. Anyway, we were upgraded as the only guests, nice, our own compound, it is a nice setup. Primitive but that is what we wanted. Had a nice splash to cool off in the puddle pool. But when evening came the problems started. One light inside, but you could not switch it on without inviting all the insects of the world in. Same with the generous outside area, no way you could eat without extra proteins or read a book or so. Then inside, the mosquito netting is too small to properly cover 2 beds so we were bitten a lot. Most importantly, as we were advised to keep the doors closed because monkeys and leopard the temperature was unbearable! Ended up with a wet towel to semi cool a bit. Please, just install a ceiling fan, not bush like but for us northern frozen people a must to stay less hot. The trains don't help with getting a bush feeling although it did not bother me too much. We scarpered, left next morning despite having paid for 3 nights,  could not stand another night boiling with no sleep.

Could be so nice

We spent two nights in Off Beat, and got the place just for ourselves, as it was off season and there was no-one else. Cottages were really cozy, and the outdoor toilet and shower were perfect for star gazing in the night. Even the dishes were washed for us even though it was a self-catering. In the morning having breakfast we saw kudus and guinea fowls, and although our scones were stolen by a monkey, we loved staing in the wilderness. Only minus was the dirt road leading to Off beat, it was a washboard and 12 km's of a road like that is quite a lot. Also a train tracks and the air base nearby caused some noise in the evening. Otherwise it was a great experience and warmly recommended!

Perfect getaway

A lovely spot to spend a night or two. Solar powered electricity gives some lighting and enough to charge your phone... but there is no signal so pointless charging.  Accommodation was basic but very clean and comfortable. Loved the fact that there was a hole in  the wall for a window .. lying  in bed gazing at the stars was magnificent. Comfortable kitchen. Only complaint was that there was no hot water for the shower. The night we were there was quite cool but I was really looking forward to my outdoor shower... hot water would have been awesome.  
DO NOT FOLLOW THE GPS DIRECTIONS!  You will land up in private army property! Took us more than an hour to find the place and due to lack of cellphone signal battled to phone through and ask for directions. 
Would I go again ? Yes. I love the bush. I loved the rustic feel. 

Off beat says it all

We spent the weekend as a family (2 adults and 2 young children aged 6yrs and 3month old baby) in the 'Termite Mound' family room. This was a return visit for us, we have stayed at this beautiful bush lodge many times over the last 10yrs however lots of upgrades have been made recently which really have made such a difference.
Absolutely beautiful setting, so peaceful. Fell asleep to the sound of hyena in the distance and woke up to the francolin bird call in the morning. It was such a great place to unwind for a weekend and switch off completely from everyday busy life. 
Staff and management so friendly and helpful, so good to see the same staff have been there for all our visits over the years.  
Will definitely continue to return again.

Perfect Family getaway

Five friends and I visited the Off Beat Safaris for three nights as a base to explore the Kruger National Park area. The Termite Mound group accommodation was very clean and comfortable during our stay. The site has very limited electricity (enough for charging phones/cameras) and the cabins are open air (with mosquito nets) but it gave an excellent camp ambiance to our vacation. The hosts are very welcoming and forthcoming with travel advice and ideas for getting around the area. I would definitely recommend the lodge.
