Maninghi Lodge will forever be a favourite in our family. The location is impossible to beat, right on the banks of the Olifants River. We had elephants walking straight past us, in front of the lodge. Victoria and Paul are the most welcoming and expert hosts one could wish for. The birding in this area is exceptional, even in winter you'll see species here that are hard to find elsewhere. After 11 years in Africa I finally managed to see my first trumpeter Hornbills, in the fig tree right in front my room! 

Forever favourite

We decided to stay at Maninghi Lodge after some friends visited them a year ago.  We could not have been happier with our decision!!  Victoria and Paul are the nicest people and incredibly accommodating.  Victoria patiently answered my 500 email questions and helped me with other parts of our trip (Kruger camp recs, hot air balloon trip, Jessica hippo, massages while we were at Maninghi).  She picked us up at the airport and even though we were tight on time she squeezed us in to see Jessica hippo (well worth it).

Paul is a top notch guide and even though my son is only 12 they were able to arrange things so we could participate in a walking safari.  We enjoyed learning about tracking the animals and his 16 years of guide experience made our safari drives informative and incredible.  

The rooms were wonderful- comfortable, quiet and beautiful.  The food was great and Nally's omelettes are the BEST (I don't even like eggs).  Even my picky child enjoyed the food and the french toast was a big hit with him.  The braai was perfect and so was the selection of wines.  

We loved that the camp is not fenced and we had giraffes, elephants at the river, and a hyena in camp.  My child was very amused by the monkeys who came into camp and stole my sandwich at lunch.  Since the lodge is small we were the only guests one night and Victoria and Nally created a beautiful birthday cake (and bubbles) for my mom's birthday.

By the time we left we truly felt like family.  Paul was incredibly thoughtful and brought me to a wine store in Hoedspruit to buy wines before we went to Kruger.  The personalized attention Victoria and Paul gave us was over the top and we had an amazing time.  We can highly recommend staying at Maninghi!!

Amazing lodge and wonderful people!!

Maninghi Lodge is a beautiful place to stay, we were blown away when we arrived and our children were so excited, we seen so many wild animals around us and felt so immersed in nature it was just perfect! Victoria and Paul were warm and friendly hosts, and the staff were the same, food was delicious. Rooms were comfy and spacious and the views every morning and evening are spectacular. Exploring the reserve around the Lodge was such a great experience and we can not wait to visit and stay at Maninghi lodge again!

Beautiful place to stay!

Maninghi Lodge in Balule is absolutely wonderful. It is an awesome little lodge situated right on the river of Oliphants River and is unfenced meaning African wildlife is free to move through the river and on the lawn in front of the lodge. If you're looking for a truly authentic and affordable stay, this is the place for you. It is run by a lovely family who truly understand the value of offering a friendly understated safari without going completely over the top with unnecessary luxuries. Having said that though, it has everything you could want from a safari - comfortable air conditioned rooms, delicious food and a great offering of good wines, quite hard to find sometimes in Africa! I cannot recommend this wonderful camp highly enough so if you're looking for an off the beaten track wildlife experience, this is the place for you. The terrain is rugged and unlike the Masai Mara or Kruger Park itself, wildlife needs to be searched for which makes this all the more rewarding and enjoyable. Thank you Victoria & Paul for a truly memorable stay - I can't wait to return!

Incredible Hidden Gem!

What a fabulous lodge.

The location is amazing overlooking the river with Hippos, Crocodiles and numerous birds 
The wildlife is stunning with daily visits from Elephants, Baboon, Bush Buck and Monkeys
The hosts are incredible and the food was  outstanding.

Fantastic

We booked very spontaneously but no problem. You get a warm welcome there! 
The property has no fences so all animals walking directly through it. Hippos, Elephants, Monkeys are common guests and all this with an amazing view out of your accommodation on the beautiful river! 
Go on the very private game drives to get to know everything about the surrounding nature. We had breakfast and dinner and guess what also this was great and delicious. Stay there more as one night it’s worth it. 

You want nature? Go there!

This stay was just perfect. The lodge is located at a river with a big three in the garden, which makes it so lovely. The room we stayed in had aircondition and was cleaned every day. The food made by the chef Riri was delicious (breakfast, lunch and evening meal). The road to Krugerpark was an hour drive and also very rocky, but we liked a little bit of adventure. Definately take a bigger car so the drive stays fun (we had this kind of pick up truck which was very nice). And last but not least: the hosts Victoria and Paul were just so amazing and very helpful with everything. Many thanks to them! Overall: perfect experience! Would recommend staying at the Maninghi Lodge.

Just perfect!

We stayed at Maninghi for 3 nights, after a busy program the days before. We decided to go for a relaxt time in the yard/around the house. The best decision ever. The place is amazing, great views of the river for about 3km. During the day, so many elephants came to the river and even through the yard. And across the river we also saw many another animals. This all, combined with the nice atmosphere created by Victoria and Paul and their staff, we think it was the best place we could have gone!

absolutely amazing

Very cool lodge, well managed, in a private reserve facing the side of one of the most important river in the greater Kruger area. I also recommend the private tours (you cannot going around with your own car) because the ranger (Paul is I am not mistaking) is very competent and teach you lots of facts

Cool lodge next to the river

Victoria and Paul are the warmest hosts ever! We had a wonderful time with lovely game drives, a fantastic bush walk and a perfect daytrip to blyde river canyon. If you don’t want to do any activities you can also do the ‚couch safari’ at the lodge, elephants and other animals come really close to the beautiful river at the lodge-stunning moments! Thanks to Victoria and Paul for a great time! Definitely not our last stay there!
