Stayed here for 1 night on 23 Nov 2022 when our car broke down. The room was small with a separate bathroom. No decor to speak of and carpeting had definititly seen better days. Floor fan & mini-fridge worked. What didn't work (especially for R850 for 1 night during the week during off-season):

a) No door on the bathroom
b) WiFi connection constantly cut in and out making it impossible to work
c) Bed linens were ripped in various places
d) No curtain or covering for the glass on the room door. Had to attempt coverage with a towel at night to block the light.
e) Mattress was collapsed in top corner
f) Only 1 bedside stand/table and the only lamp in the room was useless as the cord would not reach any plug point
g) No liners in refuse bins in room or bathroom
h) Only 1 coffee cup provided in room and no milk or creamer

Not good value

This guest house has a gorgeous garden and location is right on the main road, easy to find and easy to leave! We loved our little patio and spacious room. However, it was super noisy and not the most comfortable bed! Didn’t sleep much but good value for money. Staff were amazing.

Not the most comfortable but good value!

Its 22:40 on a Thursday night and as a paying guest I am being subjected to a loyd Christmas party happening on the premises. I have had to put up with this noise since 5pm. The staff knew there was a party but place me in a room next to pool area. I have complained several times about noise and nothing being done. I have gone and threathened to call police only now to have the staff do something. But there is still noice. Rest Assured rules says no noise after 9pm yet I cant sleep due to a party. Its completely unacceptable. Also there is very little water. I had to wait 25 mins to have a bath as water comes and goes. Dont stay here if you want sleep and water.

Noisy and little water

Located via SatNav as needed accommodation. Room was reasonably priced and seemed quite nice. Then found out that breakfast not served on a weekend.
However it was not too far to Spur in town centre so accepted this drawback.
Water was on restrictions but only off overnight so not an issue.
Wifi only available in lounge area.
Did not explore any other facilities like the pool. Parts were being refurbished

What a nice place

First time I stay in Kokstad and I was recommended by a colleague to stay here. 

Excellent rooms, friendliest staff I have met in a long time, free wi-fi, a full time security guard, a pool and a beautiful garden. 

I did not eat there so cannot comment on it but if it is anything like all the other stuff it can only be great!!

Wowed!

Some time ago (in the last few years) there was someone here with a dream, sensitivity and some creativity but sadly his/her work is dying due to a staff, who although is friendly and know there work does not share the same ethos with what the Guest started off with.  In short it is seeing the first being tired signs.  It is relatively clean and I believe safe and smack bang in a town that does not offer much as a tourism destination.  Great place to rest before or after the arduous trip through the Transkei area on the N2.

Needs a shot in the arm to relive its old glory.

This is a great little guesthouse, but not ideal for romantic getaways.  The house itself is a magnificent old building, but sloppy building work in extending parts of it detracts from its charm.  Some of the sections had beautiful antique looking furniture, but in our room there were some that were simply old and rundown.  We were received very hospitably and friendly and had no problems with booking in and out.  However, the lady that received us said goodbye at about 0700 in her pajamas... The wifi was sometimes patchy, but we only stayed a night and wasn't too bothered by that.  

Overall this guesthouse is geared towards people simply needing a place to sleep over on the road to somewhere else.  Don't get me wrong - we were happy with what we got (although we were a bit annoyed that the wide vistas depicted on the website that we booked through were no where in sight), but this isn't geared for a romantic or luxurious experience.  It does basic well, but that's about it.
