The lodge and the safaris exceeded our expectations! We were so happy with our super friendly butler, James. The food is really good and the chef surprised me on my birthday by making me a birthday cake. Our hostess, Charity, was sweet and kind. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. Our housekeeper, Nunhlanhla, kept it spotless! We enjoyed sitting out on our deck in the afternoons. We can’t say enough about our guide, Pierre, and tracker, Joe. We saw the Big 5 and more!  We got close enough to the animals to watch them and got some great pictures. We always felt safe. They are so knowledgeable about the animals and very passionate about their job. We appreciate them providing unforgettable memories for our family of 4!  Thank you for the experience!

Thrilling game drive experience! Big 5+

We loved our time at Lion Sands River Lodge.  Our river suite room was gorgeous, with a large king-sized bed for my husband and I and a comfortable twin for our daughter. 
 Huge, beautiful bathroom.  We loved the deck with the plunge pool and beautiful view (we saw elephants, giraffe, hippos, a honey badger, and tons of bushbuck from our room).  Even though it was winter we used the pool a few times and we loved looking at the view.  Our safari guide and spotter, Raymond and Amu, were amazing.  They were very knowledgeable and friendly, and we saw everything we could want to see, from plentiful elephants and giraffe to a lion pride and pair of male lions to hyena and wild dogs, to hippos and leopards.  The entire staff at the lodge had the highest level of service we've ever experienced.  We loved coming back from the afternoon safari and having a pre-dinner cocktail by the fire.  The lodge itself had an amazing atmosphere and it was apparent how much pride everyone had in working there.  We would love to stay here again and would definitely recommend it to others.

Highly recommend

We  (2 couples) spent 4 nights at Lion Sands River Lodge in July.   We were greeted at the airport by Rector, our safari field guide which helped develop a relationship upon arrival.  From the moment we arrived at the lodge we were welcomed and briefed on the staff that would be working with us during our stay as well as details related to timing of meals, safety, etc.  Having stayed at a similar resort on this trip to Africa, I will stress that the communication with us was by far superior to that resort - Lion Sands is exceptional!!!

Now, on to the good stuff!  The safari drives were amazing!  Our guide, Rector, and our tracker, Culture, were simply the best ("The A Team")!   Not only did we see everything (Big 5, Zebras, Giraffes, Ostrich, Wild Dogs, Hyenas, Kudu, Impala, Waterbuck, Wildebeest, birds, etc), we had the best time getting to know them and we had a lot of fun on our game drives.  Rector was amazing at positioning the vehicle so this amateur photographer could get close to professional pictures.  They also made pretty great bartenders on our evening game drives.  

Phili was also fabulous and met all of our needs for meals, meal times and other needs and wow, she could dance!   

We also were able to visit some local community schools as part of the More Community Foundation - the kids were so loving and the teachers were doing great things with the limited resources that they have available to them.  

Finally, there were some pleasant surprises along the way that I won't mention because it really made things more magical.   There are so many luxury lodges to choose from and I second guessed our choice right up until the day we arrived - trust me, you cannot go wrong with Lion Sands River lodge!

Amazing Experience, Beyond Everything I Imagined

This is an amazing place. Service was great in every area. The guide went out of his way to make sure we got to see a wide range of animals. A minor problem we had was handled by the manager personally and solved to our complete satisfaction. There were 4 couples in our group and we were all greatly satisfied with our stay. I would highly recommend Lions Sands to anybody who wants to experience a great safari experience.

An amazing safari experience

AMAZING!!! Beyond all expectations!!! Flew into Skukuza, had a game drive from airport to the resort! Such a beautiful place! Stayed in a river suite! Wildlife sightings daily from patio overlooking the river! The game drives with Pierre and Joe were spectacular!!! Will definitely be back!!!

AMAZING!!! Beyond all expectations!!!

Anybody thinking of trying a safari for the first time as we did as sixty somethings should definitely go to Lion Sands.  The experiences on the game drives was absolutely incredible and although you cannot guarantee what you are going to see on any given drive, the guides and trackers take you into different areas to maximise the opportunities to see the different animals. The service back at the resort was truly exceptional and we will certainly recommend Lion Sands to everyone we know. Amazing 🤩 

Fantastic experience all around 

Our family of 10 decided to celebrate my Dad’s 80th birthday at Lion Sands River Lodge and the experience was spectacular!! Thank you to all the staff for making it a trip to remember. Special mention goes to our guides and trackers, Kyle, JJ, Eddy and Tony! On our first game drive, we already saw Lions, Leopard, zebras, etc. The team made so much effort in tracking the animals so we got to see the big 5 right away! We also loved our rooms and the wonderful food that was prepared! The chef did a wonderful job with our meals! The warm welcome we received was a wonderful start to the safari! Our butler and all the general staff really made an effort to make the experience memorable. My mom loved the spa too! We specially loved the morning and afternoon refreshment stop during the game drive… we will definitely be back again!!

Best safari experience!

This is a world class resort with incredibly comfortable accommodations.  But the best part is the safari experience with amazingly knowledgeable guides and trackers. We saw so many animals.  If you are only going to Africa once on safari, plan to stay here!

Everything you could ask for in a safari experience

We had the most incredible 5 night stay for part of our honeymoon. Pierre, our guide picked us up at the airport and was with us for the rest of our stay. We also had the pleasure of having Joe as our tracker and then Adelaide and Sindile at the lodge for service/housekeeping.

We were paired with couples of similar ages so we were able to make connections with other guests which made the trip even more special. Pierre and Joe made every game drive exciting and interactive. They are both so knowledgeable and passionate about the animals, the environment and their guests. We saw every animal imaginable!!

We were leaving early in the morning on our last day, but Pierre still arranged a short game drive for us and we were given breakfast to take to the airport. No detail was overlooked.  All of the food was amazing and made to accommodate any dietary preferences.

The trip exceeded our expectations and we were sad to leave, but we will most definitely return to one of the lion sands lodges. 

Amazing honeymoon

We experienced the slender of the Lion River Lodge in August 2023.
Our Guide , Cruz, Tracker Lloyd  were excellent , knowledgeable & Fun !!
Great morning & night drives . Lots of animals . The BIG 5 and more !.
Lucky looked after our eating experience and always had a smile .
Morning Moca-choca-rula's  where LLoyd's specialty. Cruz's "SPECIAL" Sunsdowners wre the BEST.
Great Experience - Would highly reccomend. Africe is wonderful.
