If you want a place where you can unwind, far from the madding crowd, I can highly recommend Ray's place. Accommodation is not luxurious, but that is not why you go there and you have all you need and it is clean and the beds are good. They can serve breakfast and dinner, but that is all optional. Enjoy the walks, the turtles laying eggs (but quite a drive), the beautiful views from the swimming pool, the walks to the lake👍

Relax and live

When arriving at Kosi moon bed and breakfast we were very welcomed by the hosts ray and liz ! I've never met such friendly people before. My boyfriend and I stayed for 6 nights and it was the most beautiful and relaxing trip I've ever been on. We stayed in the house in one of the rooms which were always cleaned very well and were spotless! Ray and Liz took us under their wings while we were there to ensure we had the best possible time. Even went as far as buying us after sun on the first day due to being burnt from the beach. The beaches are very beautiful and so is the lagoons/lakes. We came in a ford fiesta which I WOULDN'T recommend doing as you wont get to the mouth. You NEED a 4x4 in kosi bay. This was the best news years I have had and it was so relaxing with all the beautiful sounds surrounding you. I loved Kosi moon bed and breakfast and so did my boyfriend.

Best trip ever

Kosi Moon is one of those little gems no-one knows about. Ray the owner looked well after us, and the accommodation was excellent. Beautiful scenery ! The weather was excellent ! Would Highly recommend !

What a little Gem

We booked a one night stay here, rather last minute as we got to the Kosi Bay Border after it closed. Liz, was warm and friendly on the phone, and provided great directions to get to the place. 

Access to Kosi Bay Moon is well sign posted via a sandy road with plenty of bumps. It is quite literally in the bush so a 4x4 with good lights is a prerequisite. We booked two rooms – one with a double bed (and no door to the bathroom) and another with a double bed and then a set of bunk beds (I assume a family room). The furnishings were incredibly dated and the bedding felt like it had not been dusted or cleaned in a while. 

Both rooms were very stuffy, with limited light, although there were mosquito nets on each of the beds and old school fans on the ceiling. 

The splash pool was hard to swim in due to the high levels of chlorine and there was only a very limited view of the Kosi Bay Lake from the pool deck. 
We chose to not have the breakfast (at an additional R75 per person) as we wanted to be by the border early the next morning.  

Overall the place felt unloved and stuck in time, although Liz and her husband were wonderful, warm and kind. A little bit of TLC and this place could really be something but as it stands now, I would not return.

Going back in time

We booked for a night in transit to Mozambique. There is a sand road leading to the accommodation and we got stuck in this. When we called the host he said he could not assist us. We had to wait until someone came by with a 4x4 to tow us.

The furnishings, bedding and accommodation were dated and in need of some maintenance and updating. The rooms were dark and there was no shower head in the shower. 

Overall, the place felt unloved, the welcome was un-enthusiastic and the price was not value for money.

The nearest town is not tourist friendly and in general, it was not a great experience.

Not what we expected

A wonderful place with great views and stunning surroundings, run by the most amazing hosts, who were most accommodating and very helpful. I truly had a wonderful time, it really is a great place for anyone to stop at. 

Kosi moon 

The name should not be Kosi Moon B&B as they do not cater for breakfast or other meals, rather Kosi Bay SC (self-catering) or similar. We (girlfriend and myself) were looking for a place for over New Year's rather late in the year and I found Kosi Moon. The room was pretty much exactly what I expected; rather rustic but certainly clean and well-equipped. We stayed in one of the duets detached from the main house and would recommend one of these units to couples. A nice touch is the netting over the sand in front of the porch; we sat here for hours at night listening to the wild sounds, e.g. thick-tailed bushbaby, wood owl, a hippo snorting next to the fence... Our room was adjacent to a patch of indigenous forest and it was lovely to see the samango monkeys, Livingstone's turaco and some other forest birds. Kosi Moon is ideally located close to the Ezemvelo permit's office where you need to get permits for any access to the iSimangaliso section which includes the lakes and Kosi Mouth. We used Kosi Moon as a base for full day trips to Tembe Elephant Park, Ndumu Game Reserve and the 4x4 track south to Lake Sibaya. A boat trip of the Kosi Lake System which includes a snorkeling session is a must-do! Ray, owner of Kosi Moon can organize all sort of trips for visitors. The restaurant at Kosi Bay Lodge 1.2 km's away serves good meals, but to our disappointment was closed on December 30th so don't rely on meals close by in the evenings and come prepared for self-catering. Our unit was cleaned every day, which was a blessing after returning from the sandy beaches! Will certainly be back if we visit the area again and I recommend it as good, basic value for money.
