The lodge is a small boutique like hotel with fantastic views over the surrounding countryside, vineyards and mountains.  It’s about half an hour drive from Stellenbosch.
The bedroom in our lodge, there are eight in total, was well appointed and airy.  There is a small bar and the swimming pool is good.


Restful

The Riverside Lodge is a perfect place to discover the vineland on the way from the garden route to Cape town, tourist guide-information included. Relaxed atmosphere and a great view. Short distance to Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. 

More than a stopover...

A lovely spot with gorgeous views of the mountains. We found the room to be very clean with a very comfortable bed and good quality bedding. The bathroom was small but perfectly adequate with plenty of hot water on tap. WiFi worked well. When we arrived, we were shown around by the owner Trevor who carefully highlighted his recommendations for restaurants. Recommendations that were spot on and ensured we ate well in town. Breakfast was excellent with a great choice. The star of the show was Ezna the manageress who simply could not have been more helpful. Our car broke down and she was a star in organising taxis etc. Great stay and we would not hesitate to return.

Lovely countryside location

This is literally the best place to stay in South Africa. Klein Waterval really knows what excellent service is. I have never met a host who is so kind, warm, helpfull, genuine and makes you feel at home as Ezna does. She is the secret behind Klein Waterval. She has a lot of human knowledge and therefore she knows exactly what a person needs, likes or dislikes. Than the lodge… it’s amazing, stunning view, beautiful pool and very clean. Breakfast is also great! Thank you (again) for having us and we wish you many many happy guests. 

Best place to stay in South Africa

I stayed at Klein Waterval for several days and nights during the activities of a friend's wedding just down the road and loved it so much that I want to come back in the future with my husband, stay again, and use it as our home base for our own wine tour. There are many lovely places to stay in this area, however, the big differentiator for Klein Waterval is the level of personalization they bring to the entire experience to make it feel like a home away from home. As a solo traveler, I was surprised and comforted by the fact that Ezna reached out to see if I landed OK, and to ask when I would arrive. It made my husband feel better knowing there was someone up and waiting for my arrival. Once I got there, Trevor explained the "lay of the land" in the region. Each morning I was greeted with a beautiful, bountiful, healthy breakfast including yogurt with passionfruit, their own pomegranates, seeds, plates of meats and cheese, and hot breakfast as well (tomato, eggs, bacon, toast, locally made croissants, mushrooms, etc). The breakfast itself takes place beside a relaxing, bubbling stream.

The rooms are lovely and contain all you need to have a respite. If you like a bit of charm in your bed and breakfast, then this will hit the nail on the head. My bungalow was surrounded by planted lavender and I awoke to its gentle perfume wafting through the windows each morning. Ezna helped me to plan out my trip to hit the highlights of local vineyards in between wedding activities and when I left I felt like I had really taken in the key things to do in the time I had. I cannot underscore how welcoming she was, and how our delightful conversations felt like the loveliest start to each day.

You will not be disappointed in your stay here. I already miss it!

Personalized, charming bed & breakfast - a home away from home

Well what a fabulous place this is. Set back from the road overlooking vineyards and the mountains. Had a great room in the thatched roof building with 4 poster bed upstairs. Rooms were nice and comfy with a desert bathroom . Lovely swimming pool with sun loungers facing the mountains.
Not to far from Franschoek centre and used Uber to Boschendal which was easy and just down the road.
Now it’s all well and good having these nice places but what really makes them tick……it’s defiantly the people who work there. 
It was nice to meet and chat with the owner Trevor who told us the history of the building. Best of all is the manager Ezna a very welcoming person who is lovely to chat to and nothing is to much of a problem. Always helpful and has a great relationship with the guests. Cleaning ladies were always cheerful and let’s not forget the lovely cooked breakfast made by Blessed.
What is the best recommendation for any business and that is a returning customer. And we will most defiantly be doing that with familly. So if visiting Franschoek this is the place to go.

Best ever

Trevor and Ezna deserve praise for the hospitality they show to their guests. You sleep like a baby under a soft warm blanket. Or, wrapped in a furry blanket, you can breathe the aroma of lavender under the stars. You can enjoy the amazing views you enjoy from your terrace, both in the morning for a cup of coffee and in the evening with a glass of wine.

A friendly, atmospheric

We had a wonderful stay at Klein Waterval. In a beautiful location.Our room, the bed, pool all fantastic. And with a very kind and helpful host! We just wished we had stayed longer, and hope to be back again.  

Wonderful stay

Klein Watervaal is an oasis, with beautiful rooms, well stocked bar and lovely pool. Trevor, Ezna and the team cannot do enough to help their guests. We love coming here and are repeat guests as are so many which really tells you all you need to know.
