We were due to have our wedding at the Belair Pavilion on 11 April 2020, and then use the accommodation for 1 night, 8 rooms in total. Due to the Lockdown and Covid, we could not have our wedding. Our circumstances have changed, and we want our money back in full, for the venue and the accommodation, to date we have only received a 50% refund. They just ignore us and refer to their attorney, what rubbish. They have done their brand and reputation an absolute disservice. We will continue to fight for our money at this stage.

Another Breach of Contract - Covid April 2020

Janet refuses to refund our accommodation money for a service that was never delivered - regardless of what the Belair contract clearly states. She ignores emails and calls. Avoid this business, they have 0 regard for their own contract. Their customer service was also horrendous from the start.

Breach of Contract

Dear Janet
 
I would like to place on record my unhappiness at staying at your facilities over last weekend.
 
As you know, per my initial telephone conversation with you, that I was very keen to stay with you, as John had stayed there a number of years ago, and had the most fantastic stay, with the walks up the mountain escorted by your beautiful dogs, as well as the fantastic breakfast, set out in the room overlooking the mountains and gardens.
 
As per our last email, you asked me to let you know when we would be arriving as you would come down and meet us.  I called you when we were leaving Diamant and you said you were on your way.  We arrived, John went in, and walked himself into the makeup room, as there was nobody to meet him.  Eventually a lady approached him, and when he told her who he was said she would show him the room.  He then came and fetched me, and we went into our room.  We had water with us that we wanted to keep cold, but saw that there was no fridge to put it in - must confess it was an assumption that there would be a small bar fridge in the room, as previously John did have a bar fridge in his room.  John found a fridge in a kitchenette and put our water in it, but when we got back from the wedding the kitchenette was locked and we could not get our water.

To switch on the bedside table, John had to go under the bed to find the wires and plug it into the double adapter.  The kettle does not fit properly on the table, and you had to stand and hold it whilst waiting for the water to boil.  There was also no TV in the room for us to watch sport whilst we were getting ready.
 
When it became time for us to get ready, we noticed no shampoo nor  a hairdryer in the room, these are small things that one would expect in an establishment such as yourselves ...... we asked the lady for a hairdryer and shampoo, and the shampoo bottle that she brought was so dirty, I could not use it .... in fact it was extremely disgusting.  And as such, I was forced to dry shampoo my hair, and go off to our wedding.  
 
Before we left that afternoon, you told us that breakfast would be served at Fairview - why did you not tell us that when I made the actual booking, as again I might then have booked in somewhere else.  The breakfast at Fairview - was not a very pleasant experience at all.  We arrived, told them we were coming for breakfast, they gave us a menu, and we then said we had a voucher from you - and they promptly removed our menu's, and said no, you have another menu,  We were then given your menu, which had the three choices on.  John had the fruit and yougurt, after he asked if he could rather have an omelet - and was told - we don't do omelets....... I asked for toast and jam, and this was supplied.  When we had sat down she asked us what juice we wanted and gave us a choice of three juices, John chose the orange and I chose the berry.  Once I had finished with my toast, I asked for tea for John, to be told that it is tea or juice - that was not said on our arrival, and seriously if we had breakfast at your establishment one would expect to have juice as well as coffee or tea, and choice of how we would like our eggs done, as well as pastries etc 
 
When you came out to the car you asked if we found the tea, coffee and juice that you left for us - NO - how would we if we did not know about it - nobody told us?????
 
When I pay R750 per person per night, I really expect to have a different experience, especially breakfast being served by my host, and hairdryer in my room etc.
 
Regrettably this was not the lovely experience which I was SO looking forward to

BELAIR LUXURY GUEST HOUSE

The setting is magnificent, overlooking the mountains, and they trimmed the gardens the day before the wedding .
The actual Belair wedding venue,  , the chapel and reception venue are beautiful. Covered in Jasmin and filled with fairy lights.Our wedding went off flawlessly and the staff were amazing....
BUT, the accommodation was awful. the bridal room was so full of dust that my daughter woke on her wedding day with hay fever and puffy eyes. The bathroom in the bridal room and 2 adjoining rooms has just been added to a corner of the bedroom upstairs. there is some flimsy dry wall around the toilet and shower that are perched on a platform .
There is no privacy AND WHO WANTS A TOILET NEXT TO THEIR BED!!!
The rooms in the main house are very average, Im not sure how they were awarded 4 stars. There was a large hole in the door of one of the double rooms.

Daughters wedding party accommodation

I got married in the Belair venue, and it was really perfect. The setting and scenery is magazine cover worthy. But the experience at the Country House was quite the opposite, we arrived at the room and it was freezing cold. We couldn’t find a way to start the fireplace, as the air conditioning was not enough. Being my wedding, I rented the entire place, a total of 8 rooms for myself and some guests, so I expected a flawless service, especially when they obliged us to rent the two best rooms. The room was well decorated, but regret staying because of the lack of attention to client comfort, in what was supposed to be the Honeymoon suite, became a survival experience. The next morning there was no breakfast around, you have to travel to a nearby estate to get it. A very disappointing experience.


Wedding night freezing...

We booked here for one night according to reviews, but we did not experience anything like other travelers. We were seriously disappointed 😞. What is it with places with no bathroom doors??? Really? The room was small , quite a let down. No sign of management. The lady that booked us in was very nice and sweet. But otherwise... not a nice place to stay. 

What a disappointment...

We stayed at Belair in the superior double room for a wedding. We were very excited to get ready there and stay overnight as per the amazing reviews seen on here. However, when we arrived, our room was infested with small, black caterpillars. They were everywhere including by the head of the bed and I even found one in the water kettle while attempting to boil water. We quickly informed Janet, the host, who stated that “this is part of Africa”. Fine, to her credit, she did come in and help us sweep up the bugs. We left for the wedding and upon arrival a few hours later, there were even more of the bugs. By this time, Janet was nowhere to be reached so we had to move rooms on our own accord. The other room had less bugs and we were able to sleep alright. The next morning, we mentioned the issue to Janet, who was once again dismissive and arrogant, and stated “this is part of Africa.” No apologies or offers to make the issue right were made, to our disappointment. This being the biggest issue, there were also the smaller matters of no toiletries being provided in the room apart from hand soap and bath salts. The WiFi was also not working and was unavailable in the rooms. Apart from the insects, many of the rooms were not very clean and were quite dusty as per other guests in our group. The lack of hospitality and customer service marred a lovely stay that we had been looking forward to. We have stayed in many hotels and I have never experienced such flippancy towards guests’ issues. Belair is a beautiful place with the potential to be extraordinary if the customer relation aspect and cleanliness is vastly improved. Finally, breakfast was served at Fairview down the road and it was the highlight of the stay by far.

Idyllic location ruined by horrible hospitality

We drove here from Cape Town to attend a wedding and were a bit early for check in. Our kind host, Janet let us sit by the pool until our room was ready. It was a spacious room with doors opening out to the garden, decorated in a "shabby chic " style with an eclectic mix of ornaments. The bathroom is renovated but of course we were not allowed to use the bath due to the water shortage. The views are wonderful. The wedding venue is great. Breakfast is served at the Fairview vineyard next door and it's well worth a visit for wine tasting. There is also Spice Route up the road which is also worth visiting. We enjoyed our visit very much. Take your mozzie repellent and be prepared for friendly dogs.

Great venue 

a B&B consisting of a small, old farmhouse and several smaller houses around it. next to a wine cellar, which is located on a slope, far from the street and about a kilometer from the local entrance to Paarl. The location offers a magnificent view of vineyards and the rugged mountains in the distance. Careful: there are night-time mosquitoes. Our room in the old building, had two floor-deep, wide window elements with double bed, small cabinet and mini desk. TV, ceiling ventilator and AC were available. Adjacent to and open to the room, a bathroom with bathtub, shower, double old washbasins. Each room is very well furnished, but everything is individually furnished between an early morning and a late afternoon. Besides there is a freshly furnished poolside, a freshly furnished poolside, a freshly furnished sunbathing area, and a freshly furnished poolside.

... beautifully situated

We spent three nights in the honeymoon suite. In addition to the spacious two-story room, the special feature is the comfortable outdoor bed on the terrace with many pillows. We lazy in the late afternoon, each after wine tastings, correspondingly tired. The view over the garden to the valley is beautiful. The owner Janet and her house staff took great care of us. The breakfast is lovingly prepared and the egg dishes are perfectly prepared each.
