We stayed for three nights at Riverdene lodge which was an amazing experience. Right from the start being picked up by our ranger from the welcome lodge to the very end. 

We had a very warm welcome from the staff Food and accommodation were faultless. Highlight was Anele who kept our glasses topped up at all times!

Our ranger Dale was exceptional. Within 10 minutes of our first game drive we were up close and personal and the sightings came thick and fast for the reminder of our stay. Dale worked very hard on all of the game drives to give us some encounters we will never forget.

We also toured the wildlife rehabilitation centre and Born Free Sanctuary which we would definitely recommend taking the time to do!

Simply Amazing

We had a room at Riverdene Lodge which was excellent. The room had everything you could expect and more besides. There was a lounge area in the room. The bed was large and comfortable. The bathroom spacious. Most of the drinks, snacks etc in the room were complementary. Additionally there were two, south facing, sun loungers outside. 

In the main building food and drink were always available, again mostly complementary. All three meals were excellent with a good choice of food and drink. The staff were unfailingly cheerful, friendly and helpful. All the grounds were immaculate and the deck in front of the Boma had a spectacular view.

We were lucky to have Raymond as our ranger personal ranger on all six game drives. He was extremely knowledgeable, often identifying even small birds before we had even spotted them. Seeing a lioness care for her two cubs was one of the many highlights. On our last game drive within less than five minutes we had seen lion, elephant, rhinoceros and buffalo. Even on our way back to our car he spotted a hippopotamus with her calf. He also took us to the Rehabilitation Centre and the Born Free Foundation, thanks to Glen for his time there, which gave us a more complete picture of the conservation work done by Shamwari.

A truly memorable experience which we hope to repeat in future.

Outstanding game lodge

We had the most magic three days in Bayethe at shamwari on our Honeymoon. Hands down the best experience of our lives ,thanks to our incredible ranger Sihle!
His enthusiasm, knowledge , passion, warmth and great humour made every drive unforgettable, so enjoyable and exciting !
It is hard to explain how incredible our stay was …The service was exceptional. All of the staff in particular Mauveen, Sedonia and Sino went above and beyond to make our stay a trip of a lifetime. The food, staff , game drives and accommodation was 10/10 . Couldn’t recommend enough !!

Trip of a lifetime !

Came here for a 3 night stay in July with a large group.    We had the time of our lives.   One of our most memorable experiences.    The lodge is about an hour drive from Port Elizabeth airport.   Our guides were very knowledgeable....the reserve was huge we saw all but the leopard but we did see 2 cheetahs.  We also had a rare sighting of a warthog killing from start to finish by a pair of lionesses.   The rooms were spotless.  The food was delicious.   They even served halal food for us.    Overall a fantastic experience.

Unforgettable 

I had the most amazing seven night stay at Eagles Crag. Dominic was the ranger and was so knowledgeable and good fun, every drive was different. The animals were incredible. To be in a vehicle surrounded by elephants in the open was an amazing experience The wow factor was definitely delivered. Food and drinks were excellent and the rooms amazing. 
I can’t wait to go back

Amazing place

After meeting our Game Rangers Jason, Bradley and Josh we were transported into their land that kept giving. Before arriving at Explorer Camp we observed a lion on a Baby Giraffe kill…(it was too late for the vet)

At the Explorer Camp all our needs were catered for by Philani and his excellent camp staff. Food was out of this world. 

Our Game Rangers Jason, Bradley and Josh on game drives shared their extensive knowledge of the Wildlife and biodiversity of Shamwari. Although their dad jokes require a lot of work. 

I cannot thank all the staff at Shamwari including behind the scenes anti poaching unit for all your professionalism at looking after us. 



EXPLORER CAMP ADVENTURE

I had read the reviews before I went and thought could this place really be haven on earth, as described by so many - the answer is simply YES !! This was our 1st experience on safari and 1st time in South Africa and it did not disappoint.  It was really a combination of the people, the lodging, food and the wonderful tranquility of sitting in front of a herd of elephants in total quite and just hearing the wind, them eating and nothing else. but the details:
LODGING - we stayed at Bayethe - "tented lodge" there was 12 lodges in this resort. All are very private cannot see any of the others from your lodge. they sit in a valley looking over a large hill of brush and trees and animals. If you want private this is it. The lodge itself is stunning - full living area, bed area, very large bathroom with all modern amenities and private toilet and outdoor private shower and indoor if needed, but why not be with the Monkeys !! Floor to ceiling windows throughout and nice plunge pool off your outside deck.  This is a "tent" in word only !! 
FOOD - All snacks and drinks - alcohol and non alcohol - in your room are included in the price. Your main eating and drinking will take place in the main Lodge which again is  impressive with two fireplaces, fill open bar, lounge chairs sofas and and comfortable tables to eat. The food was fresh, made to order and amazing - it will not disappoint. Trust me you will not go hungry. They have a large outdoor deck with seating just above a water hole for animals. You will hear a load chorus of singing frogs !!! 
SAFARI - As noted above this was a moving experience for my whole family - our guide Ceclay (spelling it wrong sorry) was amazing in so many ways, his knowledge of the animals, the land and  the plants and the interconnection they all have was beyond educational - he was able elevate our experience beyond just seeing the animals - which was really cool though - and we did see the big 5 !! When we left from our last safari my wife was in tears with such respect for this young man, who has really found his calling !! 
NEGATIVES - none, really !!! I cant speak to other safaris or game reserves, but I don't  know how they will top this. There is so much more I could say, but find out for yourselves !!

BEYOND WORDS  

We have just completed our second stay at Shamwari Eagles Crag. It’s so hard to describe the experience but Wow it was amazing. The staff were attentive and very caring, the food was delicious and the service was exceptional. The accommodation is better than most traditional 5 Star hotels we have stayed in. Our Ranger, Mino, was fantastic. He tried every game drive to find us everything we wanted to see which he did, sighting after incredible sighting and whilst nothing can be guaranteed he tried  always making sure we were happy and had enough photos and videos. Also, lots of incredible knowledge about the plants, birds and animals was imparted. He is a legend. So a huge thanks to Mino and Portia and the team, you were amazing and we cannot thank you enough. Visiting Shamwari is a trip of a lifetime and once visited you will want to go straight back. 

Amazing Animals and Beyond

Sindile guest lodge was stunning. Springtime is a beautiful time of year to visit as the flowers are all in bloom and animals are active. Staff at Sindile were incredibly attentive and were always trying their utmost to provide the best experience for your visit. Highly recommended - this was our third time to visit Shamwari - it never disappoints and goes way beyond a game reserve in their mission.

Third great visit to Shamwari

We stayed in Long Lee Manor . The largest of the lodges. We were in the Garden view room 8.
The rooms were very spacious ,comfortable , and very well equipped . The whole place was very much 5 star with a beautiful infinity pool overlooking a water hole.
The food at all meals was of the highest quality with a good variety to suit all tastes
The game drives were very well organised and we were fortunate to go out with Sian (our Ranger) who was a joy to be with. He was knowledgeable, tried hard to find us the animals without disturbing them whilst giving us the best photo opportunities. We learned a great deal from him about the animals, the reserve and the environment.
All in all a fabulous experience and one that we will repeat in the future
