The  is no TV In the room and the is no refrigerator in the room,we struggling  to sleep early  because to much
noise from the Bar .but the breakfast was perfect 🥰 .the bed was comfortable,  thanks to Mr M

Had a fabulous time at the Royal Hotel on our recent visit to Pilgrims Rest. A bit disappointed that we were not in the main hotel area, but the annex was well laid out and we enjoyed the experience.  An absolute must for anyone who would like to experience what it was like in the early days.

Lovely and quaint accommodation in our family unit at the Royal Hotel Pilgrims Rest.
The cottage was spacious and nice and private.
The rooms where well appointed and serviced every day.
Some maintenance is needed in various parts. 

The Royal Hotel Pilgrims Rest South Africa

We stayed in this hotel 25 years ago on our way from Jo’burg to the Kruger.  Back again on the same journey.

Had a beautiful room in the old bank annex.  

Pilgrims rest had a planned generator outage that evening so we sat by the fire in the old church bar by candlelight then went for dinner in the hotel once it came back on.   Then to bed as we had been travelling overnight with little sleep!

It was exactly as it all was 25 years ago.   I don’t know if pple will think that a good or bad thing! But this hotel is charming and the staff lovely. 

Watch out for the people who try to make you park at the bottom of the town tho - drive up to the hotel!

Lovely 25 years on

We have been visiting Pilgrims Rest for a good couple of years and recently started a tradition of booking a short stay after the busyness of the Christmas celebrations. We love our time spent in the peacefulness of the quaint town and our stay at The Royal Hotel is always pleasant. the staff are friendly and go out of their way to ensure our stay is comfortable, pleasant and enjoyable. We also were pleased to see the return of tourists in their busloads. It's great that the hotel has made it through the tough past couple of years but loadshedding is taking a serious toll. We also received good news that the reopening of the mine should bring much-needed income, jobs and growth to this lovely quaint destination. 
Visit Pilgrims Rest. Stay at the Royal and spend some time meandering around the wonderful attractions that this beautiful province has to offer.

Rest in tranquility

Exactly what the description said. We stayed in Bank house and the room was neat and clean. Loved the historical elememt in every room. The decor and furniture took us back in  time. The buffet breakfast was devine and the variety good

Suite room

We went to the Royal Hotel to celebrate my mother's 83rd birthday with family. As the family all stay in Benoni, they enjoyed the tranquility of the Hotel - away from the hustle and bustle of city live. We found the staff extremely friendly and helpfull. At the time of making the booking we were experiencing loadshedding and I could not access my emails. Desmond at reception sent the invoice via whatsapp and we had a smooth booking expereince. This is truly a business were the people are equipped to build the business.Even the security guard assisted when we parked our vehicles. The whole kitchen staff sang Happy Birthday to my mother on her special day. What an expereince! The Royal Hotel in Pilgrims Rest is a  true example of hospitaly! Thank you Neels Janse Van Rensburg for your contribution to the lovely memories made at the Royal Hotel.

Family Stay

Awesome stay at the Royal Hotel. Authentic victorian style decorated rooms. Awesome Bar that makes you feel at home. Secure parking. Good food at the restaurant. 100% would come again.
Staff friendly and helpful in all aspects. 
Good to know there are still gems like this around.

2 day Trip to Pilgrims Rest

We 4 had a lovely 2 night stay here. On arrival we asked if they had accommodation available in the main hotel as we were booked in one of the annexes. No problem, the lady at reception moved us. One staff member ran down the street following us as we left, with a pair of binoculars we had forgotten in the bedroom. 

All staff members were fantastic!

We tagged on a visit to Pilgrims Rest, after visiting a game reserve in the area.  The surrounding roads weren't great (we spent about 40 min at a road block, but at least they are attempting to improve some of the roads!), but we were pleasantly surprised by Pilgrims Rest upon our arrival.  The town is quaint and the locals friendly and there has been a good attempt to keep it in period with the gold mining age.  A local dog was our new friend for the duration of our stay and we enjoyed a drink in one of the local pubs and eateries.  The hotel room itself was lovely - clean and decorated in the period.  Our lounge area smelt a little musty, perhaps the rooms can be aired before occupation.  We had plenty of hot water for our bath, but our travelling partners were in a different annex and only managed a luke warm bath.  Otherwise all good!
