During a recent visit to Port Elizabeth to attend my daughter's wedding, we stayed at Framesby Guest house. It was a very pleasant experience. The booking was done about two months prior and when I needed to change dates to accommodate changes in our flights, it was done promptly without any hassles. Since we were staying for a week, there were a few things that we needed in the kitchen that would not normally be required for a weekend get away. These items, like a tin opener, strainer etc. were sourced or even bought to make our stay as pleasant as possible. I am impressed that with Escom's loadshedding, Framesby Guest house is not affected. A generator provides enough electricity for all normal activities to continue.

A Week away from home

Lack of maintenance. No drain cover for handwash basin, hole in sheet, chipped paint, kettle cover broken. Very disappointing. Toilet /bathroom smelled bad. Curtains not hung propperly. Flimsy door to outside.

Framesby guesthouse

We were shocked that the bathroom was COMMUNAL and this was not disclosed to us at all. Not online, telephonically or upon arrival. No guests were wearing masks. The one full bathroom is expected to be shared amongst 3 bedrooms and a salon that rents space at the venue, who uses it to flush waste down the toilet. The rooms were clean but there was no sanitiser available in the rooms or bathroom. The only sanitiser visible was for the salon clients. Having the world going through a COVID-19 pandemic, this was shocking for us to stay here with our kids. The entire weekend we never used the bathroom or toilet facilities on the premises, we went to a family member. On the last night we stayed over, we had our kids stay at friends due to the communal bathroom which we found unacceptable. Some guests used the bathroom with an open door. We were awoken at 4am, by vulgar language and shouting by intoxicated guests. This went on for over an hour. There was no manager on duty to report this too. Loud music and loud guests continued throwout our last night there. We checked out before 6am due to this behaviour and will never recommend this venue to anyone. If you have kids don't stay here at all. I'm sure you will have a high risk of contracting COVID-19 at this venue. They have no COVID-19 protocol at this venue. We had our own sanitiser, pillows and blankets to feel somewhat safe sleeping.

WORST Venue we've ever stayed at

Want the truth? Look at our photos! Left within 20 minutes of arriving - noisy, drunks puking, swearing, and "lovely" upgraded bathroom facilities! Manager drunk as well and refused to refund! We will be taking matters further! Disgusted is a compliment!
Ultimately we would not recommend staying here.

Number one worst place we've ever been to!

For the price, the room and facilities were excellent.  Relatively easy access to the N2 and Cape Road, and there is a good mall with decent restaurants, Woolworths Food and Checkers within a reasonable walk.  It's in a quiet area.

Excellent value for money

Lets not fool around. Taking money for accommodation means you CAN justify charging for it.
Sadly guys, we couldn't sleep unless it was on top of each other in the middle of the hollow bed.
Be prepared for a stiff neck... yep you guessed it... the pillows are bad too.
The only bathroom towel on day 2 was the lesser damp one from day one. No new bathmat or dry towels.
The ceiling's trapdoor frame was falling off and the TV kept flashing bad signal and was not viewable.
Sorry guys, you may have great potential, but you are not there yet.

Sadly disappointing

Clean, neat guesthouse. Safe parking. Enough Tea, Coffee, Creamer, Sugar was supplied. Braaiwood at braaiarea was supplied and we were not charged for this. Owner very friendly and helpful. On the downside of this review. We had access to use the kitchen which was very nice. But chipped mugs is a big No-No.The mugs in the room were not chipped. Only one roll of toilet paper was supplied in the communal bathroom. No extra rolls toiletpaper was set out. The fan in our room was mounted against the wall behind a free standing wardrobe. There was 2 pieces of thin string hanging down from the fan as the buttons were not working. Trying to stretch above the wardrobe using a clothes hanger to "catch" a string to pull it to get the fan working was really annoying. The string operating to switch on the fan worked. The other string I presume was to adjust the angle of the fan, but it did not work. In the end we ended up with a fan facing downwards right onto the top of the cupboard, serving no purpose at all. As it was very hot, opening the windows, did not help at all. 

Working fan would be nice since it was hot and room had no aircon.

A very basic place to stay. Nice people. All the amenities that you need. It's a converted family home so it has a bit of a dorm room feel but it's comfortable enough for a stop over. The rooms are smallish but most have an extra bed if you are traveling with a child. WiFi available, swimming pool and although not self catering in the stricter sense of the term the owner will let you make use of the full kitchen and the braai area in the Lapa.

Basic but really cool

At the very end of the Garden Route me and a group of 15 friends had to stop and sleep for one night. The other day we were taking a flight to Durban. This hostel is very close to airport so we booked a night here. The hostel has excellent facilities and the truth is that everybody wanted to stay there for some more days. We had a great reception at the hostel, it's charming, the rooms are pretty large and comfortable, the bathrooms are great. The owner, Pieter (I think that's his name) is very sympathetic and funny. Internet works well. Also, everything is pretty clean. I'm pretty sure you are going to have a great time here.
