We had a great stay. The staff went above and beyond to make sure the kitchen made us dinner even though we arrived after hours, and the cottage was cozy and had a beautiful view. Highly recommend! 

Fantastic stay

I wouldn’t advise anyone to book this place if you plan on going out at night or you might come back late as we weren’t opened for and had to look for another place to sleep at, we had to go get our things in the morning and the staff wasn’t really helpful 

Terrible

We were just passing through so only spent a night at Amapondo, it was so lovely though! The staff and owners were so helpful and kind. We loved the bar area, all the drink specials and loved the short walk to the beach. Unfortunately we didn't get to do any of the hikes to the waterfalls but we will be back for sure! The lookout point at the airstrip is a must!

Amapondo Backpackers Lodge is one of the best places to stay in Port St Johns and is situated just a stone’s throw from the Second Beach. This place has all the desirable amenities for a wonderful stay: friendly staff and attentive owners that make you feel as if you’re hosted by old friends, a restaurant with delicious meals, location, budget-friendly, among others. I simple love the laid-back vibe and ruggedness of the place that lets natural beauty shine. It is a wonderful base, whether you are a bleisure traveller seeking a peaceful and comfortable place to work from or a nature lover exploring the Pondoland region. Highly recommended. 

One of the best places to stay in Port St John's

After checking in with several back packer places in Port St Johns on my phone prior to arriving - it was obviously clear the service from the first call to inquire, to the moment I arrived, I had picked the coolest place to rest and chill. All staff from the moment I arrived were genuinely friendly. The owners themselves took the time to introduce themselves later in the evening, making sure I had been taken care of. Their repore / rapport with their staff was contagious. . The rooms and bathrooms were clean. The bedding fresh and the food top class. I would highly recommend staying at Amapondo Lodge. 

A refreshing discovery

Based on my experience at amapondo backpackers lodge, everything was just perfect, their breakfast is amazing. The only thing that turned me off is that when we came back at night to sleep they took too long to open the gate otherwise I would recommend to others

The location of the Lodge near Second Beach is superb, the staff were all lovely - very attentive. We stayed at Amapondo four nights and ate in the restaurant every night. There was plenty of choice and the food was delicious. Breakfasts were also great - lots of choice, and you can watch the waves crashing onto Second Beach as you eat. We stayed in one of the en-suite rooms, ours named Molweni. The whole Lodge was spotlessly clean and well looked after. Our hosts gave us a tour of all the accommodation: there are lovely self-contained bungalows higher up the grounds which are being up-dated, which are secluded yet also have superb views of the ocean. Our hosts Natalie and George could not have done more to help: they gave us ideas for day walking trips which we did on our own, organised kayaking for us  in the mangroves,  through Jess at Mngazana Adventures, and took us up to Mount Thesinger for amazing views of the sun setting.



Superb

Friendly and engaging staff, excellent view of nature. Mt recommendation is to improve cleanness for the communal kitchen equipment, toilets and showers. Overall I would definitely visit again and recommend it.

Nice place to visit

I had a great stay at Amapondo. The owners went way out of their way to assist me during my stay.The staff was fabulous. The chef at the restaurant was very accommodating and the food was very good. I highly recommend spending time at Amapondo.

Amapondo Backpackers Lodge

This lodge offers a variety of accommodation, from campsites to ensuite double rooms.  The setting is stunning, the food they provide is good and the atmosphere is really special.  We were made to feel welcome.  The security gate is supposedly staffed 24 hours, but on one occasion nobody was there and I had to climb over the gate, carefully!
