The service we received before we arrived, was awesome and the establishment was able to change our date very professionally.  However, the Lodge seemed a little tired, with no kettles in some roome, the floor in some units was crumbling, the windows in some units cracked, no Rooibos teabags (although you are in SA) in the rooms.  The Lodgr is also not mobility friendly, with many  steps and paths and nothing to hold on to in the bathroom.  As  a vegetarian, I was horrified to receive bacon for breakfast, although the estabilishment was aware of my dietary  preference.

First visit  to Baviaanskloof

If you're looking for peace and quiet in pristine nature, with nothing to be heard than nature and only the stars and the moon at night with an excellent and accommodating host, this is your first choice. You have your own fireplace in the cottages, no electricity but light with oil lamps. Watch the stars and listen for wildlife at night! Wonderful food provided by the owner Rob for dinner and breakfast. Beautiful hikes and views in the area. So much to see and find out :)

Nature at it's purest

My Lover took me on a 4x4 trip to Baviaans Lodge. On our arrival it was Wow Wow! and it didn't stop Rob le Roux build everything himself out of stone and wood. Attention to detail in the cottages was fantastic to see. Hospitality by Rob & his sons plus the staff was outstanding. So much to do there. Hope to take a group of friends there soon. Nature at its best! Thank you Rob & sons for an awesome stay.

Surprise in Baviaans

An amazing place run by an amazing family! The drive is incredible and takes you through the World Heritage Site of Baviaanskloof. Once you are there the hospitality is superb and the location and tranquility unrivaled. Be sure to take a guided tour to the bushman paintings too!

Simply fantastic!

The road is quite challenging, but it go through beautiful surroundings and scenery. The road will be very difficult, if it rains a lot.   The facilities was very basic, with no power.  The ablutions is very basic, but with running water and a cold shower.  However, not all are in a working condition.

Basic camping facilities

The ultimate break away. No cellphone reception to disturb your rest.
The food was fantastic and more than enough to fill anyone. 
The fresh, home made bread, prepared for each meal, was something to die for.
Great hospitality.
Very interesting history of the place, displayed against the wall.

What a treat.
We were six guys traveling in two cars, on a break away from the wifes and kids into the scenic Baviaanskloof, and arrived at Baviaans Lodge at 16:00 where we were welcomed by Rob and his family.
Rob took us on a welcome tour to our chalets, showing us the workings of the facilities. 
We enjoyed a good bottle or two of red wine on the veranda of our chalet, where after we strolled down to the lounge and pub area, where we were treated with hearty three course meal and the next morning, with a fabulous bacon and egg breakfast.
A big thank you and congratulations to Rob and family who, in difficult conditions, far from civilization, treated and spoiled us, as if we were family.
And lastly, I must mention that if you spend more than R1000 at the bar, you automatically qualify to write your name on a brick in the pub, and mine is there.

THE IDEAL GETAWAY

Spent two nights here. A long and slightly difficult drive in, in wet weather. The cabins are very comfortable but have no electricity (oil lamps), but do have hot water. The breakfasts and dinners were exceptionally good. We really appreciated the 4WD trip to a high point to see the fantastic views and plants. Well looked after, and supported through the drive out to make sure we made it through the ford over the Kouga River safely. Truly memorable in the best sense!


Very remote but excellent 

We enjoyed our stay and felt right at home with the engaging and friendly owner, Rob, and his lovely family. Although we arrived late in the evening, because we failed to read the directions to the accommodation, Rob had a nice meal and some cold beers waiting for us. In addition, his son Dylan, was kind enough to meet us halfway the mountain with his truck to be sure we would find our way in the dark to the accommodation. In short, we received a warm welcome. 

The accommodation was a separate cottage which was comfortable and rustic and had a nice fireplace and comfortable bed. The bathroom was a bit dated, but with an authentic touch to it and it and most important it was clean as where the bed and the rest of the accommodation. There was no electricity in the cottage it self, but the oil lamps and fireplace gave it a romantic and cozy experience. Furthermore there was Wi-Fi and electricity in the owners home where we could charge our phones. The Wi-Fi was not that good, but we didn't need it anyway.

Both breakfast and dinner where very nice. Good, proper, healthy and nicely cooked meals, better than in most hotels.
The second night, the owner Rob, made a Braai which was very nice as well.

The natural surrounding where nice as well, at night it was completely dark and quiet which gave us a feeling to be far away from everything.
The surrounding hills are good for hiking with beautiful views. In addition there is a little stream and a pond at a 15 minute hike from the accommodation where you can cool down.

We enjoyed our stay, it was better than we had expected and we would certainly come again either as a couple or in a group.

Comfortable en rustic accomodation in the middle of nature with engaging and friendly owner

If you are fine without electricity and enjoy looking at the stars without any lights spoiling the experience a visit to Baviaans Lodge is for you. We were taken on a 3 hour 4x4 trip up the mountain and the view is breathtaking. The braai the first evening was special as we could sit around a huge fire, the meals in general was very good. We would visit this lodge any time again.
