We spent 3 nights at Skitterland. What a beautiful house. The Taurus room is actually a suite of rooms, with lounge, bedroom and an enormous bathroom. The only trouble is trying to have a quiet trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night - it has those wonderful, characterful (squeaky) wood floors. Lol. 
Anelia fed us wonderful breakfasts, and gave us advice about the town. Comfy beds, safe parking and very useful wi-fi. What more could one ask for?

A  lovely stay

Skitterland was everything the reviews said it was. Tastefully restored house, with an amazing collection of furnishings to enhance this charming property. The attention to detail was visible throughout, showing that the welcoming hostess, Anelia, has  excellent taste, and loves her property. 
Then, Anelia Marais,  was everything people praised her for in the reviews. She looked after us royally, from the initial welcoming email to the warm greetings on arrival with a much needed tray of tea and details of our dinner and star gazing bookings. The fact that clouds and wind meant no star gazing didn't matter - Skitterland and Anelia were the stars!

Star quality

The room and lounge were exceptional good. Eskom however contributed to some cool periods and low light which should be resolved with backup power in future. The breakfast was good and all the facilities are good. Sutherland is a worthwhile visit.

What an amazing and special place to stay! Anelia made us all feel at home instantly, and every evening she made sure she put our electric blankets on for those freezing nights which made a world of difference. We felt at home.

Home away from home

An older Karoo home has been converted into luxurious B&B. Expertly led by Christna our room, Taurus, was immaculate and graciously appointed. 
A large bath, double shower and double basin makes up the amenities. 
Being an early riser I particularly appreciated that we had a seperate lounge with a fireplace in our suite. 
Tea, coffee and rusks are all provided along with a complimentary sherry. 
A hot English breakfast was offered with a lovely Karoo twist, try a lamb chop for breakfast!
The only negative I had was that the breakfast dining room was a bit cramped but not unpleasant.
If I find myself in Sutherland again, I know I will stay at Skitterland. 

Gracious Karoo house in Sutherland. 

We did a Karoo tour of many towns from Prince Albert to Uniondale to De Rust to Sutherland to Tulbach. We left Price Albert and headed to get to Sutherland by 1pm. Anelia the manager of Skitterland guest house, was very accommodating. We checked in and immediately went exploring. Sutherland is such a small town. It’s built on the Planetarium and large telescopes there. We booked a tour of SALT. South Africa’s largest telescope, and various other tours.

After the tour we went for supper at Oumeul and we ordered lamb shank as this was highly recommended by the locals. Ingrid, our waitress was very on it. The lamb shank was out of this world. They can really cook. 

Afterwards we went back to Skitterland guest house, opened a bottle of wine and relaxed in the beauty of Skitterland’s old charm. The next morning Anelia made us an awesome breakfast of scrambled egg and that Karoo meat: lamb. We sat on the stoep and had coffee and did some business. Then we popped into the OK Bazaars to buy some chilli sauce and then to Eian the butcher for some lamb chops and headed to Tulbach via Ceres. 


Skitterland in Sutherland

The first night of a two-night stay dipped to -3 C and the electric power was cut for most of it, but a log fire helped to keep us warm, and Anelia and staff somehow managed to serve up a superb breakfast without the benefit of electricity. We loved the old-world comfort and character of the place.

Comfort against the odds

My hubby and I spend 2 nights at Skitterland guesthouse. 
The room was lovely with an oldie-world atmosphere, very spacious and included a lounge with a fire place. The heated blankets in the bed made sure we stayed warm & cozy.
Anelia made a divine breakfast which was included in the rate. I can definitely recommend Skitterland to anyone visiting Sutherland

Comfortable, clean & very spacious 

What a wonderful stay at Skitterland! Our room was warm and cosy on arrival (electric blanket and heater switched on).  Safe covered parking excellent for icy cold nights. Wonderful breakfast, next to a cosy fireplace, with a most attentive friendly hostess. Thank you Anelia!

Great stay!

One of the best places we ever stayed.   Very need, services was excellent and rooms divine.  The house is from a different aero and was lovely to go back in time.  Sitting around the fire place in the cold is highly recommended.  Lovely lady running this guest house.
