The Old Mill has comfortable accommodations in small buildings set in beautiful grounds on the edge of town.
The room was small but Cody and was tastefully furnished.
The restaurant was convenient and served up good, hearty meals.
The staff were welcoming and helpful.
We have no hesitation in recommending the Old Mill if you plan to spend a night or two in Swellendam.

Comfortable and convenient

What a pleasant atmosphere and relaxed but classy environment. The hosts and waitress, Bernie went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as possible and the bobotie we had for lunch was outstanding!! I can really recommend the Old Mill in general to stay over or just enjoy a meal on your road trip through Swellendam.

Western Cape Road trip

The Old Lady, the owner of OLD mill guest house was really kind and her hospitality was very good. We reached OLD mill late night and she was there out to receive us and helped us with our fire place. In morning she served us simple but good quality breakfast. The room was very spacious for the price we paid and clean. The bath was small but clean too. 
One of the best reason to stay at this place is the location for travelers who are passing by this small town and want a quick night stay as its just close to N2. The big car park in the compound of this guest house is a big help for car's safety. 
There is also an italian restaurant exactly opp. to the guest house which serves good food.

One Night Stay

A most pleasant surprise. A beautifully restored historical (monument) Mill. Very friendly and relaxed staff and an excellent chef. A treat and I wish I could have spent more time there and in Wonderful Swellendam.

Went the extra mile to get flowers for my wife's birthday breakfast at short notice. The room was larger than expected. Very quiet area. Will definitely make it a place to visit again. Good service al round.

Home away from home

My husband and I stopped here after flying from LA on our way to Plettenberg. The food is excellent, the staff and service were wonderful. It was a welcome rest in peaceful surroundings the gardens reminded us of England. After a long trip we enjoyed falling asleep in our garden room with a log fire. I would highly recommend stopping here.

A peaceful retreat

Lovely well thought out room with front patio which was  shaded and perfect for sitting out before dinner. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent - particularly the prawn starter - but really all the food was delicious and beautifully presented. Breakfast was equally special and lovely to sit out under the trees. Service at all times from reception to the waiters and waitresses was brilliant, friendly and helpful. Could not recommend this more as a place to stay!

Peaceful Stay with Lovely Restaurant

Had a great meal here despite the fact that they did not have any electricity due to the load shedding.  Did not stay in the hotel.  The fillet steak was amazing as was the lamb shank.  Would recommend a visit here

Great food

We had just arrived from the UK and needed a quiet and relaxing stay to recuperate and good food and this is what was given us by the old Mill guest house and restaurant. In addition the staff were very attentive and helpful

Very relaxing time at the old mill

Booked on booking.com and upgraded to a deluxe king room with a bath as recently had a small op that requires my arm not getting wet. 

Upon arriving we were shown to a very small room with a shower and enquired about our upgraded booking. The owner was called and brusquely told us no such booking existed despite being shown the confirmation email and spoke to us in an extremely  rude manner. 

The issue wouldn’t have been a problem had it not been for the way we were spoken to with not even a hint of understanding or attempt to amend the error. On top of that the room was very small and had no air con or fan. 

We asked for the WiFi password and were told there was no WiFi at the property despite being advertised online and so at this point we decided to cancel the booking and go elsewhere. 

We found a lovely modern and spacious room at the Battenburg with a wonderfully welcoming owner for the same price.  

There are many lovely reasonably priced b&b’s in Swellendam with owners who are helpful (the flame tree in particular was very accommodating) who would welcome your business that I recommend supporting over The Old Mill who doesn’t seem to want business at all.
