What a place! Large, comfortable rooms with a wood fire in each! Clean and tidy. The staff go above and beyond to make sure you have a fantastic experience. Nature's Valley is a wonderful destination needing a few days to make the most of what it has to offer.

Peace and quiet in comfort

I was greeted by the lady in the office not with an “hello” - just a rude “I have been waiting for you!”....😳
You cannot come and go as you please with your own remote for the motor gate, you are dependent on staff all the time.
We stayed in Forest room. The bedroom itself is tiny... there is a stoep area but it is not very private. The bathroom is fine.
Taking a shower is cumbersome and not a pleasure. The water goes hot-cold-hot-cold all the time. When we checked out there was also no water.... we couldn’t even wash our hands. 
The mattress needs replacement and is worn down on the one side. 
My biggest complaint however is about the smoking guests in the garden! Their cigarette smoke came up to our room all the time! So, we had to keep all doors and windows closed! Our room smelled like smoke for much of our stay. Unacceptable! 
The breakfast however is lovely!!! 

Breakfast redeems this lodge.... 

Location is perfect, for the beach and the only eating place in NV.  Our room was comfortable and spacious, with a private sit out area, and right next to the pool.  Excellent breakfast: lots of fresh fruit and local products and hot breakfast cooked to order.  Staff were friendly and keen to please.  We were only at the property about 19 hours, and power was off for 12.  The remote location is understood and power outage is not the fault of the property, but they do really need an alternative power source.  Couldn't even reach them by phone when it was urgent.  A big thank you to manager Vernon who went above and beyond to get our passports (left in safe) to us in Cape Town within 24 hours.

Very good stay at the beach

What a lovely surprise! We booked online and had no idea what we were in for. The lodge IS Tranquil, the staff are absolutely on the ball and very polite and willing to ensure your needs are met.  The rooms are simple but comfortably furnished with both fans and air-con and a small bar fridge, fresh water was put in the room every day and tea/ coffee facilities were replenished.  The absolute "berries for me" was as a coffee snob, I was able to go upstairs and help myself to the Nespresso machine in the kitchen!  The breakfast table was a winner, very fresh food every morning and your own choice of a hot breakfast too.  We made use of the braai in the pool garden and enjoyed sitting under the trees.  The Natures Valley restaurant is right next door, and the path to the beach is steps away! And what a beach- lovely!!  Highly recommend this establishment and will go back for sure!!!  My only complaint (and this honest to God! if you sleep under the honeymoon suite, - please ask the guests to take off their hiking boots when they enter the room!) there was European family above us who clomped around for ages in what we imagined was their boots!!) at 10pm at night!  Other than that - we love love love the place! Hats off to the lovely staff working there, you guys were great!!

December holiday

In the heart of beautiful Nature's Valley just a few yards from the pristine sandy beach. Operated by knowledgeable staff, without any fuss, with a friendly welcome, good service and a great value breakfast. We walked, encountered bushbuck, duiker and monkeys and we spotted the Knysna Turaco. We hiked to the look-out point with its great coastal view. We rested by the fire and we had a great sleep. It was also easy to reach Stormsriver mouth, Plettenberg Bay and even Knysna activities from here. Highly recommended.

Exactly what we wanted

Very tucked away location within walking distance to a desolate beach. We went here to do the Face Adrenalin bungee jump and this was the closest place for a one night stay for a good value. We did not know at the time of booking that this B&B was connected to the Face Adrenalin company, so we unfortunately did not get to enjoy the jump at a discounted price since we already pre-booked, but my boyfriend who was not jumping, got to accompany me for free and I did get free photos. 

Location was safe and secure, we parked right on the property. The room was simple and cozy, cutely decorated and clean. We did not experience any noise issues as we had the room at the far end with only one wall adjacent to another room. We were warned about the aggressive and intrusive nature of the local baboons but had no problems with them. Breakfast was very tasty. 

Would definitely recommend staying here, the host and staff were lovely!

Excellent Value and Further Savings!

A simple but pleasant and quiet lodge immersed in this valley of peace. Breakfast on an excellent terrace. Room with large, wide and clean windows. Great for going for a walk or enjoying the ocean. We also recommended the restaurant next door. We also enjoyed the laundry service kindly done by the staff.

I know Natures Valley from my primary school days and I have always wanted to stay at Tranquility Lodge. We finally did and     we enjoyed every second. 
The village had a power outage during our stay, Our hosts quickly had a backup generator going and we had power again. 

The Lodge has a perfect location, a hop and a skip to the beautiful 2km white sandy beach, most of the time you have this beach to yourself. It is close to Natures Valley’s only restaurant with wood-fired pizzas and a la carte menu. 
Our room was spacious with a very comfortable bed, it had everything we needed with our own deck where we could sit and listen to the Knysna Lourie’s in the trees. 

The breakfast was great, with freshly baked croissants and Danish pastries, lovely locally produced cheese, a great selection of continental breakfast with a choice of a hot breakfast with beautifully poached eggs or whatever you fancy. 

I can definitely recommend staying here and doing the Salt River Hike. We will definitely return for a longer stay. 

Close to Nature

a little peace of paradise...no driving anywhere from this fantastic lodge...beach across the road...great place to relax and explore on foot...lots to do...wish we had more time to spend in the area...will be back for longer next time

Great value!!

Positives:

Location - a few minutes walk to nature’s valley beach which is pretty much in the middle of nowhere along the garden route - which is exactly why we came to nature’s valley - there is just the beach, nature, peace, quiet, serenity - and plenty of scenic hikes to do (ask the general store two shops down for info on the hikes and tides - very informative and unfortunately the staff working in the tranquility lodge haven’t got a clue about anything and are completely uninterested - like walking zombies half asleep!)

Neutral:

Property - we booked the “honeymoon suite”, which although quite overpriced in comparison to places of equal quality along the garden route it was very nicely done up and a lovely touch was the traditional log fire and chimney - which we made use of as it can get really cold in the evenings along the garden route at this time of year. This was lovely. They also have a large hot tub which was lovely but no bath salts or bubble bath which was extremely disappointing. What is the point of a jacuzzi hot tub in the honeymoon suite if you without bath salts/bubble bath, do you expect us to use shower gel? As lovely as it was to call it a Honeymoon suite is a bit of an exaggeration - I would advise do NOT come here for your honeymoon as that would be bit of a disaster. 

Breakfast - was average, took a while to cook, service was little to none - not the service you expect at the price per night they charge!

Check-in:

Baboons are in the area which broke in to our room which we were NOT informed about, hence we left the windows open that were ALREADY OPEN WHEN WE CHECKED IN!!

Baboons can be extremely viscous and dangerous - so our safety was compromised and on top of this the Baboons are extremely clever and could have stolen our valuables, ransacked our suitcase etc - so not only our safety but our wallets and passports etc. were all at risk. 

As we were not informed on check in and as the window they broke in to (beside the toilet) was already open we assumed we had gotten unlucky and his was a one off. We informed the day manager about what had happened and asked her if this had happened before to which she replied rather clumsily and carelessly - yes it happens all the time, which is why we say to keep the windows closed - well she checked us in and failed to mention baboons at all neither is there any signage mentioning them!

The check in was extremely poor and lacked basic information - we were not shown basic stuff I.e where the safe is, hairdryer, essentials that are usually shown at lodges let alone a honeymoon suite at the extortionate rate they charge for it. 

Staff were not rude but were unenthusiastic, had a lack of knowledge and passion and so wasn’t what we expected at all, at any guesthouse let alone at the price we had paid. 

They also supposedly have an honesty bar which we wanted to use (there is literally one shop and one restaurant in Nature’s valley which both close early, so a few drinks from the honesty bar would have been lovely and our only option) but to our shock their minibar consisted of an empty fridge with a single bottle of beer in it! Pretty pointless. 

The final straw was when it was time to check out (check out is unreasonably early at 10am, they extended ours to 10.30am which was apparently a “late checkout!”) as we were leaving, the day manager opened the gate for us and stood by the gate impatiently as for us to leave - although we wasn’t fully ready we decided to leave the private drive and park on the road and prepare.  Usually when a member of staff waits by a gate that means they are escorting you out (heck even the guy in spar escorts you out your parking space let alone a guest lodge charging R1666 per night!!) I had a blind spot and despite me checking my mirrors their gate sticks out a bit as it doesn’t open fully - she failed to warn me which resulted in me cracking the side of my rear light on the car.  This wouldn’t have happened if my partner had helped reverse me out as usually does - or even as I said as a spar parking attendant does!! 

When I questioned the day manager (the same lady that carelessly failed to advise us about the baboons at check in and then admitted it happens all the time) - did she not see me coming and why didn’t she warn me of the gate/blind spot?!? She admitted she was “looking at these guys” and pointed to the plants OUTSIDE of the gate - so the whole time we were under the impression that she was escorting us out she was busy looking at plants outside the driveway instead of escorting us out their driveway something my partner would normally would do if it is a tight spot and something my 10 year old nephew would be able to do but she didn’t. This is testament to the non existent customer service at this place.

After a lot of back and fourth with Vernon, one of the managers I was issued a full refund for our nights stay but it’s safe to say our visit was as far from “tranquility” as you can get and by far our worst stay and only complaint amongst the 9 guest houses we stayed at during our 3 week trip along the garden route and Cape Town in SA. 

Do yourselves a favour and if you must see nature’s valley which I really recommend, pass through for the day or stay at an alternative accommodation either in nature’s valley or somewhere else nearby like Plet.
