Quiet and peaceful stay in a lovely environment. The Garden Suite was ideally situated as its name indicates, it is also extremely spacious and relaxing. Susan is a friendly, helpful and environmentally aware host.


Our stay 29/01/18 to 01/03/18

We enjoyed our stay at Serpentine Manor. Susan was the most gracious host and the property was lovely. 
Our only comments, which we discussed directly with our host, are that the suite could use a bit of an update and some basic improvements. We had to ask for certain essentials such as braai tongs, coffee plunger, cutlery, most of which were immediately provided, however should have been available when we arrived. There is only a small fridge and no real freezer which is worth noting. 
The suite was very spacious and extremely clean, but the linen didn't quite fit the beds and there was a lack of insect repellent which we felt was an oversight given the proximity to the vlei and the volume of pesky mosquitoes. 
The TV, WIFI and DSTV were a huge bonus for us. 
The pool is incredible, and the surrounds are exquisite.
The staff, including our host, were really lovely and definitely enhanced our stay. 
The freedom to come and go as we pleased was wonderful and the location of the property is excellent although you do need a car. 
With some basic improvements we would highly recommend this property for a family stay. 

Serpentine Manor - December 2017

Serpentine Manor is set in a picturesque location with a lovely garden and a friendly housekeeper. There were some maintenance issues and inconsistencies with ‘policies’.  The owner of SM provided an unprofessional approach to constructive feedback and suggested that if we have any complaints, we are welcome to stay elsewhere in the future. Given the treatment received from the owner, Susan, it comes of little surprise that the place is currently up for sale. It is clear that she is wanting to leave the hospitality industry. We look forward to visiting this beautiful part of the world once again and wish the future buyers the very best.

Unprofessional service

The staff at the Manor were kind, friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Rondavel for a week. It's cosy for a night but sparsely equipped and tiny for longer. The thatch on the rondavel is decaying - when the wind blows it leaves chunks and dust of rotting grass on everything - tough for asthmatics / people with allergies. We didn't have access to braai facilities - we ended up buying a small one for ourselves. The place was only serviced and towels etc refreshed once during our time there. Location is pretty - away from the bustle of the town, nice garden and pool, close to everything. But because it's in the wetlands, there are endless mosquitoes and it's near the highway and on a main road so not quiet during the day. We booked through Booking.com - confirmation forms said the guest house would be in contact to provide information about settling the remaining 50% of the Bill and that credit card facilities were available. We received no communication about payment until we arrived and were a little taken aback by the inference on arrival that we had infringed the booking policy by not settling 100% upfront, told to EFT or pay cash immediately. Ultimately we enjoyed our stay but I would be unlikely to stay there again.

Place has potential; Rondavel not the best

Eight of us spent an amazing week at Serpentine Manor. The lush garden and well equipped, serviced suites provided everything we could have wished for.
The property is both close enough to the beach and shops and far enough away from the hussle of crowds and traffic.

The suites are neat, nicely decorated and well equipped with all we needed to cook or braai. The on suite bathrooms are well equipped with towels, soap etc

We all congregated at the fire in the pool area and had most meals there. We could also retreat to the privacy of our individual suites when we needed peace and quiet and our dogs had the run of the property.
Susan was a great host, who gave us the space we needed but was available if we needed anything. She kept us informed of when cleaning and garden staff were coming.

There were some days when we didn’t leave and just stayed in the garden, walked around the lavenders or sat in the shade - tranquil and quiet.

We can highly recommend staying at Serpentine Manor, in fact we are thinking of booking again for the same week next year.
